I love the idea of offer sheets. They make it a more competitive and cut throat desire to win and do what is best for your club
Krug may be done and I think Broberg is the player they really want. Holloway is there to put the Oilers into decision mode. If you get both then bonus.
St. Louis definitely targeting Broberg the most here, especially with the AAV on that contract being SO high!
My understanding is the Blues were offering Buchnevich to EDM of Broberg and Hallaway. Funny how this has all worked out.

this is mainly on ken holland and JJ. Ken and JJ should’ve resigned them sooner or at least holloway. It also doesn’t help that holland went after pavel buchnevich in the 2024 trade deadline where STL wanted both of these players and knowing how ken holland likes to negotiate he probably laughed in STL’s face. However i’m pretty sure their hands were tied with the draisaitl negotiations because i’m pretty sure he was their top priority until now

Just goes to show that the Bowman hiring was a mistake. He's accomplished zippo since he was hired. Had Jackson remained as acting manager both would have already been signed.

Bowman has nothing to do with it at all. This was a dumb move by the Blues simply to obstruct the oilers success. Jackson should have signed either by now if they really wanted to.
Given The way Broberg and Holloway looked as the playoffs progressed, it would be a shame for the oilers to lose even one of them.
Stan Bowman’s first move as GM is going to be letting these two walk 💀
His saving grace might be Kane electing surgery and placing his cap hit on LTIR and kicking this problem further into the season where they may be able to pull off a trade to make room with a team dealing with injuries or something.

I’ve been saying this whole offseason the oilers need to trade and sign brobs and Hollywood Holloway. Instead Jeff Jackson and Stan Bowman decide to negotiate with draisaitl who still has a contract till July 1st 2025. And this is the news I wake up too, thanks Edmonton…..
Jackson signed 2 huge upgrades at the forward spot, this is about priorities. Broberg isn't worh anywhere near 4 million maybe 1/4 of that, but he conspired with his agent to put the oilers over a barrel. Screw him, let the dopes in St. Louise eat that horrible contract. Holloway is more reasonable and if I'm the oilers I think about matching it.

@@RandomPlaceHolderName Not now. St. Louis set their market value with those offer sheets. Other GMs know Edmonton would have to shift them to keep Drai. That provides zero leverage for Edmonton on moving one or both of them (or other players).

That's why it's so tough to build a team that can dominate long time. That's almost 8 mils that Edm have to cough up. GMs have to be creative or players themselves, who want to win, have to accept lesser deals.
This is an absolutely SHREWD move by Blues GM Doug Armstrong. Even if Evander Kane is put on LTIR, keeping Broberg and Holloway would still put the Oilers nearly $2M over the cap. And the fact that Leon Draisaitl's contract is up next year is gonna loom over the Oilers like a dark cloud. I think the Oilers lose both Philip Broberg AND Dylan Holloway to these offer sheets.
Blues also have PO Joesph. I would expect a trade afterwards if the Blues get Broberg

I'm a Blues fan and this was a little crazy to absorb! It sounds good, sure, but payback has a way of biting you in the @ss. Years ago, the Vancouver Canucks made an offer sheet for David Backes (2008) who of course ended up being a long term Blue and our captain and it was a 3-year offer. The Blues later offered Vancouver's player, Steve Bernier to a similar offer sheet. Each team retained their players but it was a payback from the Blues to Vancouver. What will happen to one of our players in the future if Edmonton has a chance to do the same? I love it, but it comes with risk...just saying.
Edmonton has Drai, McDavid and Bouchard up for deals soon. Even if they find a way to offload Nurse + there is no worry of retaliation, they'll need every cent of cap space they can get.

Steen loves his Swedes. Surprised no one has commented on that yet. Wouldn’t be surprised if that made a big difference in this happening at all.

lol, oilers fans are more focused on Draisaitl man so both Broberg and Holloway can go. They literally have enough forward depth and Broberg didn’t play 90% of the season and they did well without him…no, this is much better for the oilers that these guys went after the money while not accomplishing anything to show they’re worth it tbh.

I think you are underrating broberg. He played very good for edmonton and will likely be second liner for st louis.
How is Holloway's term "a little bit of a worry"? It's two years.
He explained it. Making it work with a possible Draisaitl extension.
Holloway is a no brainer... So is Philip Broberg.. Getting another D man for half of what they would pay Broberg is very realistic. Even if it's for a year. Though Shattenkirk is a righty and near he end of his career, He put up 24 pts last year, compared to Broberg who spent most of the year in the minors. Heck, DeAngelo would be an upgrade. Another option would be to just wait it out till training camp and see who ends up on waivers. Not sure what St Louis was thinking to be honest..
Edmonton should get the picks and move on form both. That $6.8M dollars on next year’s book negates the salary cap increasing for Edmonton and they need all the money they can get to extend Draisaitl and Bouchard

Not sure why the Blues would risk having to take Broberg at that money. Nice news piece for fans but can't see Oil not keeping Holloway. This just clears cap room for Draisatl.
Ceci may be an easy trade. May have to retain at least $1M-$1.5M in salary but he is a UFA next summer so this season he will likely be a rental. Holland signing Nurse and Campbell to those contracts have now put this team in a tight bind, though if Broberg does leave for St Louis that opens the door for a guy like Gleason or Kemp to prove their worth and stick around, as a few of the Oilers' prospects are UFA's next summer as well. Kane going onto LTIR will allow us to keep Holloway. Neal's dead cap also comes off the books next summer, which may help us re-sign one player.
I think the Oilers should let Broberg go to St Louis and get that second round pick in return, as they don't have a first or second in next year's draft. The pick may also be used as leverage in adding another player or added in a package to move out a somewhat expensive contract.
for Stanley Cup run this season, makes sense to keep experienced Holloway and let Broberg go, even though having long term upside?

So many moving parts here. But may force the oliers to move someone that should have been moved by now. Broberg imo is too good to let go, given the way puck moving defensemen are so valuable now. Holloway also provides upside and depth at forward. IF Ceci is moved or even Nurse😂, with Kane maybe going on LTIR and Drai taking a moderate team friendly deal. A raise in salary cap also would help. Of the 2 players, even with the higher AAV, i actually think Broberg would be the better option to keep but also no it the likely one. It's there a possibility Edmonton could trade either of the 2 players to get assets from a Central division team and screw the blues back? That wouldn certainly be hilarious
I think that Oilers will keep both and ship away Kulak and then deal with the cap next offseason. They have cup aspirations and I think keeping both is important for the Oilers to have that depth in Holloway up front and then Broberg on that 2nd pair. That cap hit on Broberg is crazy though especially when I look at what Brannstrom got in FA with a bigger track record and probably similar production.

From the oilers perspective, these guys accepted the offer sheets. I can see them maybe letting broberg go simply due to the cap hit & term and matching holloway. I'd drop holloway imo

No they cannot. Once an offer sheet is signed, the owning team can either match or decline and accept the compensation. And if the team matches, they cannot be traded for the next year.

Skinner and Ceci come off the books next offseason thats 6.25mil right there that can easily be replaced internally that covers both the Holloway and Broberg deals and the cap will increase it will be tough but as a contender for the cup I think they have to bite the bullet and match the offers and push the problem to next offseason where they will have cap problems regardless might as well go after the cup this season

These guys are bottom of the roster players, two guys who have failed miserably to live up to expectations. He did something similar with vrana and kananen and look how well that turned out. That is absolutely not going to happen and it’s so skewed in Edmonton’s favor. Kane is going on LTIR and Ceci isn’t very good. You’ll have to throw in some top picks and or prospects to get that deal to work since Ceci is going to be an UFA next offseason so he’d be a rental plus again not very good either.
Actually EDM would have to pay to unload those contracts they wouldn’t be getting an elite sniper in Laine.

I don’t think Holloway changes the plans for Neighbours. If anything it makes Zach Deans spot questionable.

Definitely an upgrade of LD over Krug or Kessel not sure what you're smoking.
Blues almost made the playoffs last year. Sunny and Krug are on LTIR. We upgraded our team this off season for sure. We might be looking at a playoff run but our guys gotta go back with some fire in their belly. Suter and Faksa plus getting Texier and Joseph will be good. Resigning Kapanen I think was a good idea as well. Getting Broberg and Holloway both would be good moves for the Blues. We got plenty of cheap contracts and trade bait in case we don't make it to the playoffs this year
