- Thought I would try something completely new today - making a set of grips for my Remington 1911.
I had some old knife scale blanks lying around and thought these would be ideal.
This episode covers selecting the wood and initial shaping of the grips.
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER ENJOYED WATCHING A BRIT TALKING ABOUT GUN STUFF. EXCELLENT VIDEO AND VERY VERY HELPFUL!
STOP YELLING!
I made my 1911 grips exactly the same way. I never had much to make it with so I sliced some CLS so it was the thickness I needed and stained it 3 times using coffee and then varnished it and my gun looks alot better than it did with the plastic grips.
LOOKS GOOD, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM WHEN YOU GET FINISHED.....
Thoughtful instruction. Cool stump work table.
this is exactly what i was looking for! your awesome bro
Grate vid the wood looks nice and will make the gun have a look of its own cant wait to see how it will turn out
First set looks like Walnut, second pair are definitely Wenge, and the third set appears to be Cedar
To me the first one looks kind of like mahogany
@@davidgoddard4270 you could be right
Looks like oak or mahogany, I thought the middle was cocobolo but I haven’t done knife scales for awhile so it is probably wenge, and the right does look like cedar.
The wood in the middle is definitely Wenge. I've made some knife handles out of it, and it is my favourite decorative wood for this kind of thing
The left is Mahogany, the center is Wenge.
Daniel Lucas you got it
Right looks like marblewood
The left is brown wood, middle is darker brown wood, right one is Raspberry ripple wood....... I'm almost 100% on those.
Beautiful
You could also print out the 1911 grip blueprints and glue it on to the wood.
Dark one is wenge 2 tone is flame alder and the reddish ones are mahogany
Thank you mate , i from Brazil and i love 1911 on my 1911 ccw i Will make too Thats is a Noble art god bless mate 😁🍻
Tbh the left scales look more like walnut then the middle ones though it could be anything from walnut to cocobolo. The middle ones look like zircote to me at least. And idk what the far right one is, very unusual figuring and color while still good looking.
The middle wood is for sure Wenge, the left one looks like a rosewood either Bolivian or Honduran, the right one looks like red cedar
The first looks like Brazilian Cherry, the second, wenge and I don’t have a guess for the third.
Sweet. I'm trying to do this myself. Using pieces from an old apple tree log. Trying to do some red resin in the cracks and see if it works out.
Omg flame alder hahahaha. It's early. The light one is BOXELDER.
Left is Mahoghany. Center looks like Zebrawood but a lot of these guys are saying Wenge so I'd go with that.
The middle are definitely wenge, left could be walnut, but I don't have a clue on the thin ones
Left looks like Jatoba or Spanish cedar. Center is Wenge, right is zebrano.
The left wood, viewed by me, may be Jatoba. The center looks like coclolo. No idea about the red and white.
I was thinking "this guy has the wrong accent to have a gun" until I see it was a fake one.
the second part wood is Kassod tree or Wenge.
The black one is Wenge. It's an African wood.
I guess the first is sapele second is wenge and the third might be palisander
The left wood looks like oak, the middle is cocobolo. Idk the right one.
Walnut wenge red cedar
WTF is with that giant warning label never seen a Remington 1911 or any 1911 for that matter with that giant print on the slide.
Might be a safety bit for the country he's living in. I deal with a similar thing getting firearms here in California.
Lol. That was the first thing i noticed. WTF. Warning. This pistol will choke on ball ammo. Owner may become frustrated and throw pistol.
it says made in taiwan on it....fucking airsoft
It's a toy with a plastic frame.
Does anyone know if they make australian buloke wood grips for .45
Remington’s are made in Taiwan?
qual o nome desta faca?
please make for itli made pistel wood grip
Awww. I thought it was going to be for a real M1911-A1. Feel bad for you guys, can’t even get a real pistol.
What a shame. I build one from scratch almost every winter in my shop, however I am not an experienced wood worker so I comission my grips. I have an affinity for Buffalo ivory these days, and I have a set from black Buffalo horn. I almost dropped a small chunk on a set from Ram Horn but I lost the bid for them on eBay.
I’m sorry for you🤣 not everyone can afford the reall deal and plus if you see these clones some are built Bette Than the ones given in service 💀you just mad my $350 1911 can eat and shoot better than you’re over priced shi
@@10milliBuddha. when you get older, you will be able to acquire some of the finer things in life. In my case, I hand built my carry gun myself, and yes I am a certified gunsmith with a degree as well as 31 years of practice. In my situation, not daily carrying a gun I personally built from scratch would be odd, no? Wouldn’t you want and even expect your gunsmith to carry and daily use his own product? In addition to, since I built it from scratch the cost was minimal. I can’t charge myself for my Gunsmithing so yea, you could even say I git a really good deal. 👋😀.
@@ScottAT i admite that you can build a 1911 you’re self I’m still not at that level I’m 21 and I also carry my build all I can build atm is glocks and I’m definitely not certified. But mean while il carry my cheap 1911 , my glocks and my self built 80%
@@10milliBuddha. keep at it! Get good! I’d love to know more about your 1911 if you wanted to discuss what you chose to do and why.
@@ScottAT i got a Tisas 1911 payed 350 shipped the review on it are 💯, I only have 600 rounds trough it since I got it a month ago but it eats everything only carry it on weekends because why not . I would love to build a 1911 from scratch but not at that level . I got in to glocks first then ARs now I’m just getting in to 1911s
Brasil !!!
The dark wood is wenge
Man, I thought it was chuck lidell
XD
Middle one be better
Those really skinny scales are probably a fur or a pine of some kind and the middle ones look like Manzanita wood and the first ones look like either regular Walnut or a mahogany it's hard to tell with them being dry if you were to let them or coat them in some oil before you started cutting we would be able to tell a little easier
That was too easy. My grips, on the inside have dattos and other cut outs and reliefs. Will be a bit more complicated.
