  • This video should have been published at the end of the year. But - at least it's here :)
    I find that the year - always brings up feelings of what I have achieved and what not - it's also in response to what I see on social media - all the posts and reminders of what people have done to celebrate wins.
    I feel like my art practice has been a cumulation of small wins stacked on each other to get to where I am today. 2022 adds up to 2023 and so on... so in this episode hear me ramble on about the different parts of 2023 I enjoyed that I want to grow more of in 2024.
    I hope this episode inspires you to think about your own stacked wins

    I’m so glad I found your channel and this particular vid and the one before on the floral books! Loved that one! Thank you for sharing with us as you do! It makes it so much more personal and warm. Takes the anxiety out of learning with your tutelage. Love the shopping trip! Haven’t been in so long but will after I take the dog to the vet!

    May I please say first, your baby girls are absolutely adorable! I love that your share and teach your girls the gift of art, while letting them explore and create on their own. I think your watercolor paintings are beyond beautiful, you are so gifted and talented. I never kept sketch books, but yours are truly incredible!

    I related so much to your journey and have now subscribed. I noticed the same thing with my kids. My oldest son is insanely into drawing and goes through paper so fast. It’s one of the best parts of the artistic journey.

    Thank you Jillian. This was so fun and inspiring! In 2024, can you share your Neocolor II techniques? I love how you use the crayons to add color and texture and not necessarily using water to blend them in. I like that look and want to learn!

      Hi Susan! So lovely to see u here always. I love the neocolor2 so much. I didn't expect to! They do bring out the inner child with those sketchy crayon look. I don't really blend them in either - maybe some spots but I love leaving them rough as part of its charm! I'll definitely do one on the carandache sometime!

      @brushmovement kind of, I'm so used to watercolor that gouache is a real learning curve! It is a bit frustrating and colors can easily muddy , so I'm still practicing 😅

    Your girls are so adorable, and they’re like mini Jillians 😊 I just adore looking at your sketchbooks and all your work. I’m glad you started Brush Movement Collective. I no longer feel so lost in my art journey and really enjoy nerding out with you and the community on everything watercolour. 🥰

      Hahaha mini jillians! I love the sketchbook situation I have now but I want to get messier this year. Less defined edges and more rough expression! So that's the experimentation phase I will have to go through! I m honestly super privileged to have u because u also contribute so much to the community and provide input and share your art. It won't be the same without u too!!

    Dear jillian absolutely brilliant so inspiring but your sketch books are all gorgeous perfect i love seeing them by my hands are shaking as cant tear the pages out when I mess up complete beginner do you have rough paper by side by side first?! thank you so much Margaret

    • @brushmovement
      @brushmovement  6 месяцев назад

      Hahaha 😆 😂 I laughed at your comment about wanting to tear them out but also that's the beauty of being a beginner. I had beginner sketchbooks too and I now look back on them and see my baseline of where I started. It becomes a space of introspection which is also all yours. So even if you are beginning- you can start with a sketchbook too!

    Thank you for this video. I LOVE your artwork, you are inspiring! For 2024, I hope to carve out space in my days for watercolor & hand lettering practice. Sketchbooks are intimidating for me, because I want each & every page to be perfect works of art, but in reality, sketchbooks are for sketching & practice. Thank you for sharing your journey & reflections for 2023.

    I have tried sketchbooks but haven’t been able to keep pages flat, water rolls around and they get warped so easily that my color doesn’t end up staying where I want it…..Disappointing experiences usually. Can you explain how you prevent this. Do you tape down you pages? How? What books do you use? Do you find that a spiral book lays better? Thank you so much.
