I was taught to convert them to fractions. 3%=3/100 and 15=15/1, then multiply straight across. 3x15 over 100x1, then simplify. 45/100=0.45, the same but different. Fractions are difficult for a lot of people, moving decimal places could be easier. I think math is taught differently around the world but we still come out with the same answers.
You’ve made this way more complicated than it needs to be! Show the simplest most efficient way to solve the problem. That’s why we’re having such a hard time in the US. My generation was taught to solve a problem quickly and effectively. “New” math is breaks everything down to “simplest” form BUT you have to build it back up to get an answer. This is MATH! Do the work. Memorize tables, equations, forms. It pays off!

This doesn't make it more complicated. It just shows the steps. Convert percentage to a decimal, then multiply it out.

Very complicated. I just figured out 1% of 15 which is .15. Then triple that which is .45. Took about 3 seconds
Now try 17 percent of 174.

Anyone else do this in their head in a few seconds just by moving the decimal point and then basic multiplication?

Multiply 3 x 15 then divide it by 100
I always wind up converting:
"3%" → 3/100
And "of" always means to multiply
So,
3/100 x 15/1
→ 3x15 over 100
→45/100
(Or 45.0/100)
"divided by 100", so,
move the decimal two places to the left.
(Two places, because there are two zeros in 100)
→ 0.45
So, 3% of 15 is ~ ½
Half of 15 is 7.5 (50%)
Half of that is 3.75 (25%)

It's easier than that,divide 15 by 100 then multiply that by 3 and you get the answer much quicker and inmy opinion easier ie. 15 ÷ 100 = 0.15 × 3 = 0.45.simple.

Is over of. % over 100. Cross multiple then divide. ?/15 then 3/100. Multiple across, 3x15. 45. Then 45 divided by 100. You can use this to find different variables.
