    I'm 55 years old, and somehow I managed to scrape through without ever knowing how to work out percentages. My eldest asked me to help her with percentages and I found this video. I can't believe it's so simple! Thank you!

      Don't feel bad. I'm in my 50's too and I have forgotten a lot of the math that I learned because I don't use it on a regular basis as an adult. Keep practicing. You'll get better. Best wishes to you.

    im taking the asvab for the army, when i got my practice test back i did excellent in all categories but math and this video really helped me, so thank you. I never knew how to do percentages and never learned it once in school so whenever i was met with the challenge of figuring out a percent i would either just guess or google/calculate it if i could. Now i know how to do these problems for my actual asvab test later this week!

    The only problem i have with this is when you take for ex. 24% of 60 div by 10 = 2.4 x 6. The 2*6 is easy enough to calculate (12). But the 0.4*6 is also just 40% of 6. And i find it hard to do in my head... In that case i could just do the whole problem like this 24% of 60 as 0,24* 60... But yeah, everything ells makes alot of sense. Thanks :)

    Thank you for the great explanation! I have one question: Why in 3% of 400 and 13% of 1200 the division by 10 or 100 doesn’t affect the percentage itself? It makes sense seeing it but I’d like to know why.

    • @metallsnubben
      @metallsnubben 10 месяцев назад +7

      If I understand your question correctly, think of it like you had "(3 x 400)/(10 x 10)" and "(13 x 1200)/(10 x 10)". You're essentially "simplifying the fraction" and you know you have to divide by 10 twice, but it doesn't matter where you do it, you can do "one of them divided by 100" or "10 each".
      Since % just means divided by 100, you can rewrite it as 3% x 400 = (3/100) x 400 = (3 x 400)/100 = 3 x (400/100) and so on, the important thing is just that _somewhere_ along the way you're dividing by 100, multiplying by 400 etc. but you can move stuff around. This goes for when you _only_ have multiplication and division, when you also have addition/subtraction in the mix you of course have to keep track of brackets and what goes with what.
      In the first example of "61% x 80" you could just as well have turned it into "0.61 x 80" or "61 x 0.8", but it's probably going to be easier to do "10 each" and get the "6.1 x 8"
      And you likewise, "13 x 12" _is_ the same thing as "1.3 x 120", it's just a question of what you think is most convenient.

    Thanks, handy tip, although your examples all had quite nice round values that when divided by 10 or 100 gave easy to work with integers - it would still work with different values but wouldn't be quite as quick... e.g. in the shops when something is say 5.99 and has 30% off

    • @Lilione111
      @Lilione111 6 месяцев назад

    Another question:
    How would you work out this for example the question was “30% of 356” would you divide 30 and the divide 10 by 356 which would be 35.6 and work it out the same?
