oh dacob, i love the things you hate about alessandro's gucci haha his direction for gucci was such a design renaissance. i love the aloofness he brought. the wealth of art history and historical references he imbued the collections with. i totally felt that the creative energy and people he gathered around himself made being a dreamer so inviting. the carefree, dreamlike, romantic, escapist fantasy, dressing up in your finest clothes and jewels just to have tea with your friends in the garden - i adored it. i love 60s and 70s and i have so many ready to wear pieces, trousers, coats, fashion jewelry, etc. from the six 2018/19 collections. gucci shoes are amazing as well, amazing quality and so long lasting. but yeah, everything after fall 2019 has been repetitive. i love alessandro and i was so sad he left, but i definitely saw it coming. it's the end of an era.

Same, it totally resonates with my youth and I really love his aesthetic. I love that he has a distinct style from other brands, love his direction for Gucci and that he isn’t purely bought off. I disagree with Dacob strongly on this and think it was hard to turn Gucci around.

Yes he was hitting the youth market very effectively and that market was massive in China. There are multiple reasons for his exit it wouldn't be just one issue. Now if you go into a Gucci store they're completely pared back it's boring. They are battening down the hatches to weather the storm.

    • @deborahcurtis1385

It's very tricky to get design right at the moment,@@Skyebright1 because there are economic headwinds that are brutal, yet the need to attract youth is also crucial. Houses are going all minimalist but that doesn't create turnover. It's all going to hell in a woven hand basket...

I love Allesandro Michele though because I love vintage and I love that he's doing his own maximalist thing while everyone else is all about minimalism. I love that it's heavily focused on clothes not just bags, sad to see him go. Of course he can't be compared to Tom Ford but he has also made his trademark in Gucci.

I totally 💯 agree with you. I still love ❤ Gucci and appreciate what Allesandro Michele brought to Gucci. It’s sad to see him go. Hopefully the next designer is as innovative and stays true to who they are. I couldn’t watch this video until the end, way too gossipy, shade and a little hating on Allesandro Michele.

Gucci was on the verge of bankruptcy when Tom Ford became creative director. He was so brilliant that whole period with him was superlative. I particularly loved the look of the low slung velvet pants and jacket, with the Gucci horse-bit belt, but also how he revived the hobo bag so well with various colours and textures.
Ford hates brown and he reduced the production of brown items to an absolute minimum. He's achieved so much in his life no wonder he sold his own label after the death of his partner Richard Buckley (who was a well known fashion writer and journalist. This was also after successfully writing and directing two feature films. His partner Richard was very wise and kept his feet on the ground, particularly about fame and how ephemeral the fashion world is.
'Now, Ford, 60 (in 2021), is sharing how he has adjusted to life without Buckley. "It's been hard after 35 years, very hard," he told WSJ. "I keep thinking, 'Oh, God, I have to call Richard,' or I need to send him a note about this. And he's not here." '
    And also:
"If the person you're with is someone you respect, who you believe has a great heart and a great soul, as good a heart and soul that you will ever find, don't ever leave them," Ford added, "because you won't find anyone better."

My attitude is never to tear down anyone who is creating something. It’s easy to be critical when you haven’t personally taken on the challenge of creating.
Making anything -be it art, fashion, or music and presenting it to the world is a vulnerable place to be. Kindness would be an appropriate response.
If you don’t like someone’s work, let that be motivation to create your own work!

There are very few designers who can keep up with the pace of ever changing fashion trends demanded of them . Some think they can get away with being boring by using the old chanel 'style is better than fashion' excuse . To be fair it must get like mental drudgery having to come up with something new every 3 months. Not everybody can be at Karl Lagerfeld or Miuccia Prada level..

    • @SuperDacob
      @SuperDacob  Год назад +1

Good point nathalie. And to think that brands like Chanel make ten collections a year…. That means they have at least one collection every month…. Its insanely draining for the creative teams but also really hard to keep up with for the production teams.

lagerfeld literally did the same thing throughout his days at chanel, with slight variation and some new but forgetable designs inserted here and there. also, not everything he did was so marvelous (although he was a great designer), but the bulk and essence of what he did at chanel remained mostly unchanged throughout the years. there are only so many variations of the chanel language.

Alessandro Michele was never my cup of tea. I thought the clothes were uninspired and the way they were styled on the runway with those emaciated teen models was very corny. Also, every collection ran together, like one loooooong season. I could not for the life of me look at an item of clothing and pinpoint what collection its from. Sorry, but I think there's something to be said for seasonality in fashion. I don't think much of his Gucci will be collectable in the way that Tom Ford's Gucci was. But god dammit, those campaigns were MAGNIFICENT! Always the highlight of the campaign season.

It sounds like Kering has the LV/Chanel level ambition for Gucci (15 bil revenue is not easy) but Michele was unwilling/unable to change his direction to fill the brief. I have a few of his shoes for Gucci but got tired of his gimmicks. I can see him at Etro, Missoni, or even Pucci or Marni but honestly do people care about creative directors anymore? It's in the companies' best interest to keep CDs' ego in check so they can be puppets for cash and growth. Also, let this serve as another cautionary tale for potential candidates: a Kering relationship never ends well for anyone involved (just ask Yves, Tom, Pilati, Lee, Hedi, Nicolas, Daniel, and ...Demna?)

I agree it’s a little repetitive after 2019 ,but I still prefer anything he designed rather than say a bin bag from balenciaga or a tacky egg on a heel from loweve. Yawn .
I feel sad to see him leave . If you’re a maximalist and a 70s lover you get it . Not sure it’s necessary to say those nasty things just because it wasn’t your personal style . Figures hadn’t dropped last year ,just not grown as much as greedy kering would like. Let’s hope AM starts his own brand for us misfits and eccentric folk . Have a nice day.

But I am not a minimalist by any means. Check out my older videos… I have one of the biggest Jeremy Scott collections out there… talk about opulence and camp and escapism. Haha. But one grows out of things eventually and moves on. Jeremy is very repetitive too so I grew out of the novelty as well. I am happy Gucci will get some new fresh air. I feel it was much needed. As for Michele… I really don’t care for his aesthetic… but that doesn’t mean I have anything against anybody who loves to wear his pieces. If you like to wear his stuff, then go for it. Enjoy it.
