I've been lectured about it before. "If I were you, I'd use your money on an experience instead of that." Well, sometimes whatever I've purchased is an experience, at least to me. I save my clothes and bags to use for years (mostly).
For sure. People don't all prioritize the same things. I'd rather have a closet full of beautiful, eclectic shoes, bags, and clothes than travel someplace. Italy will be there next week, that amazing trench coat that went on sale will not, lol!
@@beautyininsanity421 so so true. After all we should al be respected with our own hobbies and what we find enjoyable, some people prefer a nice vacation others a very nice handbag. We could argue some can have both but we all have priorities on what we enjoy and all our priorities should be respected. Personally I do prefer traveling and get a contemporary designer bag but it’s okay to prefer to postpone a vacation and get your dream bag.
Some people will fly on budget airlines with trash bag luggage and cook rice and beans in their hostels and be like “I’m in France y’all.” And if that makes them happy that’s cool. But don’t criticize me for my designer bag, because I’m flying business class with it in my lap. An “experience” without luxury is a tribulation _to me._ We are not the same, so don’t expect me to be 😤
An experience in Venice, Italy doesn't appreciate in value as it would if you buy a luxury handbag or furniture that doubles in 10 years time that you could pass onto your daughters as a will! 😂
Omg I was JUST talking about this. The whole idea that wealthy people don’t buy designer is such a fallacy lol. I know and have been around wealthy people. They buy designer and luxury just as you said. They buy things that we may not even know are expensive. They’re the type to have 50,000 statues in their home that look like cheaper and affordable purchases lol
My wife and I are decamillionaires. We don't own anything "designer." And probably the only "luxury" brand items we own are our Teslas- because we love the cars, not to impress broke people. Broke people are the biggest buyers of designer and luxury items. That's why Saks, Mercedes, Tiffany, BMW, etc all have such profitable credit departments. They loan money at high interesr rates to broke people who buy items they can't afford so they can "look rich."
When this topic is discussed, there needs to be an explanation of what people mean by 'rich'. We aren't talking about those with 20-30mil. Depending on where you live, have that much in liquid and non-liquid assets could be meaningless. We're talking about serious wealth...40mil+ at LEAST in assets. And it's not that wealthy folks don't buy luxury items; they don't buy mid-luxe crap like dinky LV bags made from 'genuine leather' aka the LOWEST grade leather. If you think Chanel, LV, and Gucci are luxury, you don't know true luxury. Brands that have outlet stores are NOT brands that wealthy people are interested in. The only ones that wear those brands are rich people that are PAID to.
I think “silent luxury” is that other class of luxury that is even more expensive than the well known luxury brands. Those brands cater to a smaller population of wealthy that can afford them. So for instance, when most of us think of luxury watches, we may think of Rolex, but the extremely unattainable brands are even more expensive, therefore most people have never heard of them. My husband does research in luxury marketing, so I think that’s given me this bit of insight.
Yeah like on Antiques roadshow, there was a vintage Omega watch before the NASA moonwalk, like if you have serious money you wouldn’t buy anything that can be brought in a shop at all, it would be all haute couture
Man, this has been one of the biggest topics in my head since I made my first ever luxury brand purchase (a black Pochette Metis from LV back in March). It's honestly so snobbish. There is such a thing as ordinary people who don't have A LOT of money appreciating the finer things in life that can be expensive for them. I don't have to be a fashion VIP to learn about and appreciate what Haute Couture is. Besides, Louis Vuitton was born into poverty, just like Gabrielle Chanel was. They were just like us once, normal people just trying to do what they love regardless of circumstances. And now their fashion is worn in Hollywood. People need to mind their own business and keep to themselves. People can buy expensive things without putting themselves in financial danger.
Louis Vuitton and Channel when poor put their time and money creating a business. I guarantee they did not save and spend. large portions of thier income. on a hand bag.
Yes, I can't even wear a Chanel bag without everyone asking me if it's a super fake! Or why am I splurging on expensive handbags, as though I'm not entitled to own Chanel bags or wear brand name shoes etc. I'm sorry but I work hard 24 hrs around the clock daily as a stay at home mom supporting my kids their entire life, exhausting myself out, sacrificing my health, my youth, my beauty, emotionally, physically, mentally, traveling nonstop for my kid's sport events. The least I can do is splurge on myself once in a while.
@@SuperDacob exactly! Thank you 🙏. By the way, no offense to those who prefer super fakes but my personal preference have always been to own real authentic Chanel bags. Owning fake bags is not my cup of tea 😊
YASSSSSSSSSSS!!!! People have no idea how much we stay home moms work and we don't get paid for it! There's no lunch break or bathroom break with little voices micromanaging your every move with their favorite phrase, "mommy??" Lol And I am a SAHM of a child with special needs so that is another can of worms. I definitely should not own luxury brands because I should be dedicating my entire existence to him and spending on myself is like a crime because shouldn't that money be spent on his needs[and let me telly ou his need exceed any normal means for just an average family]. I love my children and literally would die for them but not going to feel guilty for liking my luxury things. I felt every word of this post! Thank you for sharing this!!!!
@@jaks_bag_attack heck yessss! I buy what I like, it can be a cheaper ByFar bag for $200 or an expensive Bottega bag for $3k...I buy for me not for trends! And my vintage Michael Kors Hamilton in "royal blue---it almost looks purple" is one of my fav if not favorite piece of luxury than my LVs.The quality is superb and kept in immaculate condition...I got from The Real Real for barely $100 if that. Point being, I agree with you 100%.
I've always said "money is all relative" - you can spend a couple thousand on a holiday and have it be over in a few weeks, I chose to spend it on my first CHANEL handbag this year. I feel like I have to justify myself when I tell people about my bag but I really shouldn't - it's been my dream since I was 15 years old to own an CHANEL bag and now at 29 I shouldn't let people judge my actions
glad that this topic is in the discussion! i always get criticised by my friends saying i like expensive stuff (although I never had luxury items). but when I had a good quality item either bags, shoes etc. they would mock me 'wow that's so expensive (side-eyeing)'. yet they use iphone which is also expensive?? so it's ok to buy hundreds and thousands of gadgets. but when it comes to fashion, I get heavily judge 🙄
double down "that looks expensive..." "omg YES it WAS" (like talking to a stupid child) "THANK YOU for noticing!" they usually visibly flinch or back up, it's hilarious just talk down to them about how "smart" they are to recognise it, condescending to the max they stop. oh boy, they stop. sometimes you get asked how much it was and be like "I dunno, I don't think happiness can be measured, you know?" just go nuts with it like Karen from Will and Grace. "I picked it because it matched my favourite bikini but I lost it on my third husband's second favourite yacht" 99% of the time they don't realise you're Fing with them
At least with the bag it will last for a long time and if you decide to sell it you can get money back while with a tech gadget you spend all that money only to have to replace it after a couple years now that is a waste of money...
@@richiethev4623 well I like tech and fashion and I can tell you apple products do last like 10 years. At the end no one should be judged on what they like. everyone has different taste and priorities.

I find this (the topic) a form of bullying. It’s either to make people who can afford luxury guilty or bad. It makes those who aren’t “rich” who save for an item- and get LV, Gucci, etc feel bad also. This is ridiculous. It’s going to give those who are insecure a complex and then think only certain brands reflect certain things. Yes, there are tiers of luxury. Some brands are and start at a higher price point. Any thousand dollar bag or hundreds of dollars wallet, if not thousands, can not be “poor”. This topic is annoying. Bullies to make one party or the next feel bad and bully them. What is poor?!?!?
I agree with you! I’m not rich and also not poor but I buy Gucci or lv when I have saved up my money because I love them. I don’t buy to look rich! Whoever started this nonsense is probably a bully who hates luxury
THANK YOU its sooo frustrating, if i carry one of my luxtury bags i constantly get "i cannot believe you spent that much money on a bag". " i absolutely would never spend that amount of money on a bag". Bc I'm a normal ass woman with normal money.
Once I was carrying an LV and went to McDonald's for takeouts. When I was walking out of the door, I overheard someone mumbling something like 'Did you come in here to save money for the bag? ' I was shocked because people still assume that people need to save in order to get luxury but the truth is some people save for emergency not for a bag. I meant when I hit the emergency fund target, I reward myself by buying a bag. This way, I have both luxury and money for emergency. And I eat both fast food and high quality food. I think in some way, it pains some people that there are people who enjoy life and not mind spending huge amount on things that can be scratched up and don't generate more wealth . They will never understand the convenience using luxury items can bring.
I have never understood the myth that only "poor people" (whatever that really means) buy luxury to look rich. You can't make that make sense! Financially speaking, poor means to be without resources. With that being the case, how could a poor person possibly afford to buy a luxury house item? And you're correct, Super Dacob, that the über-rich and the aristocratic sets certainly do incorporate luxury names into their overall attire. So whoever started that nonsense was just blowing hot air. And truly, to wear luxury or not to wear luxury is a personal decision.
Perhaps "broke" is a better word than poor? Lots of broke people have 6-figure incomes, and can afford to make payments on "luxury" items they really can't afford. All the luxury brands/stores have thriving credit departments charging high interest rates to broke people trying to look rich. Rich people don't need credit to buy a $10k bag. They just pay for it.
As Dolly Parton once said, “it costs a lot of money to look this cheap”. To hell with silent luxury, if you like it and can afford it then buy it and work it!
Yes, Dacob! Have you also come across people who like to say, "Well, I can tell that bag is fake, because that person takes public transit/doesn't get their nails done/doesn't dress right, etc?" Like, b!tch, are you following people home after you see their bag? I have a friend who's a socialite type, and she hated driving, so she took the bus everywhere! I've seen Birkin girls walking, rich people buying Old Navy.. Like, what the hell? Or, "I can't wear that bag because it's looks too expensive for me to deserve wearing it." Okay, sure. Never mind that your sugar daddy bought it, or you snagged it at an estate sale, or found it at a pawn shop, or ordered it from a Japanese consignment shop, or...any number of things! GAAAAH, CAN'T PEOPLE JUST LIVE, LOVE, AND ENJOY THINGS?!?
I just had a conversation with someone a few weeks ago about the same thing. She said unless the person looks a certain way, she assumes the bag is a fake. Why? Like you said there are people with money that fly Coach & take public transit. There are people with debt up to their eyeballs with lux cars & designer goods. You just don’t know & can’t assume.
Yeah you get people on tattle life/guru gossip going on about RUclipsrs having ikea furniture and it’s why they’re not really “rich”. Seriously I know nothing about furniture and move house when renting regularly, I’m not buying bespoke furniture to have to sell it cheaply
I hate having my nails done !!! I don’t like long nails , they make my hubby cringe anyway and I don’t have 45 min to spare to have them done when I can paint my own . Ppl are so judgy and it’s just good to see I’m not the only one being targeted for my hobbies
You are so right Dacob!!! Luxury gives me guilt. But I figured out that this guilt comes from people's reactions. Perhaps I will never wear a bespoke suit or forget about a Métiers d'artes dress but I can always appreciate the artistry and work put into it. I don' t have the same feeling for luxury cars but I would never turned down riding in a Ferrari. My point is life is short let's celebrate those who worked honestly and can enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Yup 👍🏼 💯 I had a friend that would spend ridiculous $$ on cars & jacuzzis… money you can’t imagine but they would make comments on my Dior lol 😂 “that is so expensive”. Ok Kelly but your Ferrari wasn’t.
Hi Dacob! I have had the experience of being surrounded by rich people in different stages and situations of my life and all I can say is that the richer they are the more developed is their taste for good quality things such as food, travel, learning, etc Some love logos and others dont, but that doesnt change the fact they know what the fine things in life are. I personally think money accentuates who you truly are. If you are a generous person when you are poor, you will be even more generous if you become rich. If you are an asshole, you become even more of an asshole if you become rich hahaha I love collecting pretty things and i dont spend much in fancy restaurants, nor partying, etc so i can afford my luxury obsessions because i choose them carefully.
Super interesting video Dacob. I think you make some great points. I think as I have gotten older i have become more interested in luxury based on quality over quantity and also to be frank living in the most expensive region in the U.S. I have found that by having a few luxury pieces that serve different purposes I am able to feel more confident within my surroundings and not waste more money on cheaper trend pieces. I notice I am treated as being more important/taken more seriously when I carry my pieces. It really does sound silly to say rich people don't care about luxury. Furthermore, if you are single and don't have children and work, it is not surprising then, that you would spend your money as you please. Some people like to eat, travel, party and others like to have things that they can use more than once. There isn't a right or wrong answer!
I like handbags and travel, my boss likes expensive meals, our other coworker loves cars. We all have different interests and how we spend our money is not a reflection of rich or poor, but rather, what are you interested in? And if anyone judges you for it, THEY’re in the wrong.
“I’ve been to dinners where everybody’s like omg and then after dinner I went to McDonald’s because I was hungry” .. I just love you so much, and, how utterly relatable lol. Also, I seriously echo the sentiments here. I find it truly sad that human beings are still trapped in this terrible cycle of judging one another. Who gives a shit, honestly? I’d love to live in a world where wealth or poverty meant nothing in the realm of fashion, and it was just about simply hitting the vibe and loving /exuding confidence in what you wear, whether the bag cost you $20 or $20k. Let’s replace this so called silent luxury with the subtle elegance of how good it looks to be your own person, stay in your lane, and to let everyone else live their fantasy without being a bitter Betty, always criticizing others. Whether you’re a punk in thrifted doc martens, giving ‘em hell while wearing Chanel, or dressed head to toe in the Row and you’re just a gal on the go who grabs a cute TJ maxx tote and you’re out the door, the only thing that matters should be how fabulous you feel while not giving a fuck what anyone else thinks of you.
"Wealthy" people aren't a monolith. They don't all behave in the same way. Let's also be real the idea of the quiet luxury aesthetic is very caucasian centric. People like what they like regardless of wealth. Money doesn't guarantee the absence of tackiness or the presence of style. And vise versa.
Also, people judge luxury fashion because fashion is seen as feminine and womanly, and a LOT of people hate women (including a lot of other women). This is core to a lot of hatred out there, especially towards people who don't follow the rules of standard gender expression, or who are trans (hdu eschew masculinity to be... gasp!...a feeeeemale). It's because it's girly to want to look good with high quality stuff.
I am a person who buys luxury that is not logo heavy. I prefer subtle designer goods because that is my taste. I also tend to buy products that are not popular because it doesn't look too trendy. Besides my personal taste, I don't want to be a target of robbers or thieves; certain brands have been counterfeited so much that the brand is devalued where I live especially Louis Vuitton. I detest people asking me how much I pay for certain things. It is none of your business of what I buy and how much I paid for it. Just rest assured that I can afford it. I have a furnished home. I have a running car and I eat well. As a member of a minority, my lighter hued coworkers are always asking me how much I pay for stuff. A coworker called me out in a meeting because she noted that I didn't repeat an outfit in over 3 months. Then she insinuated that I must spend my entire paycheck on my outfits. I kept my cool and let her sound crazy. A few days later, she came to my desk and asked me where I live (I use a PO Box as my legal address in a city closer to my home). I pretended I didn't hear and I got up quickly to go to a fake meeting. When she dug around and found out that I live an affluent neighborhood, she asked if I lived in a townhouse or single family home. Again, rushed to a fake meeting. I purposely do not discuss finances or lifestyle choices with the group I work with. The toxicity and jealousy are too much!!
@Quantum Storm You have provided words of true wisdom. Everything you said was sound advice. In my case, I do not live above my means. I came from very humble beginnings. I have worked very hard for everything I have. Also, I don't like to say this but it hurts sometimes. I come from a very generous family. We will share with you everything we have. I am extremely generous. Even in my family they say I am too generous. So for people to be real snotty to me it saddens me. But it will not stop me from helping anyone. Thank you for your encouraging words!!

@@seabreeze4559 Those are certain types of people you’re talking about are fakes. This is not surprising and quite common here in NYC. Especially, in our entertainment industry. I dated an Ivy League man for many years from my previous relationship graduated from Columbia University, an esteemed athlete for Columbia University Rowing team, worked in high ranking NYC Wall Street was very wealthy, owned several properties and drove sports cars. He didn’t like to flaunt nor brag and was incredibly generous to people. He gave so much to the homeless shelters and other charities that luxury brands was not his thing. Except sports cars that he loved. He was incredibly humble and pretty private about his wealth. Those are the types of people who are authentic. Mind you,I was way poorer than him and used to work in restaurants and bit of acting and modeling back then. He didn’t care about my financial status. He only cared who he was in love with. Spending your money when you can afford it is fine and dandy . I am not speaking on people who have money. Yes you can spend your money as you like but individuals who spend over 10% of there annual income on a small piece of leather is not a smart move. Walking down the street with $10, 000 bag and you make $70,000 a year and you don't own a home or money in the bank does make you look foolish. For the rich it it is a drop in the bucket. For others it is just going to keep you poor. MHO
The “wealthy” will buy whatever the hell they like! Whatever that is! Whether that’s logomania or not; and so they should!!! As should the “regular” person who maybe doesn’t have a disposable income but has saved up and will also do WHATEVER THEY LIKE with THEIR money. Fab video and very well said Dacob! 🥰🌟
most very richy rich people do not want to be targets for kidnappings, so they do not carry around logos much if their bodyguards are not with them or they are not in a compound with other richy riches. doesn’t mean their outdoorsy rain jacket did not cost 5k if you see them out. the kind of level of wealth like that you don’t see much of anyways. they live kind of separate in their castles because of threats to their family. for example my friend drives a BMW that has the diplomat-package: extra bottom reinforcement against bombs and bulletproof windows. car looks the same as any 5 series, but weighs like a ton more. that is very silent luxury i guess but is that kind of life really luxurious? luxury to me is doing what i want whenever i want.
Great video! It’s so true - people are either worried about how others spend their money OR trying to “flex” on someone else and it’s silly and exhausting. I wish folks focused on making themselves happy instead of hyper focused on other peoples lives.
Agreed! Trying to put everyone in a box is so dépassé. Let people do whatever they want, however they want it, spend or not spend Flash their wealth or not ...the only people at a loss are those who pretend to be something that they are not. There's absolutely nothing wrong in owning only a canvas tote bag or aspiring for a chanel unicorn bag every season. Fashion for me is about fun and fantasy, enough with those 'gatekeepers' of what fashion or style is 'supposed to be'.

Clothes and bags with logos are marketed to middle class who see it as a social status thing. They are manipulated that ‘they have made it’ if they own a certain brand
I agree with you 💯! I've heard people throwing this BS around for a while. Let's start with the fact that the kings and queens of the past were the most opulent over the top consumers of luxury. Hello, has anyone seen Versailles? The homes of the Medicis? Luxury isn't about logos or not logos, it's about what we ascribe value to. If you don't have time in the day to yourself maybe 5 minutes sitting outside looking at nature is a "luxury". I think you touched on many different points, including the judgement that fashion receives in comparison to other things. I have an inkling that it boils down to deep rooted sexism and misogyny (and I'm including people within the LGBTQ community as being the unfortunate recipients of this as well). Things that are typically associated with "female" pursuits tend to be viewed as more frivolous and less worthy than something like sports activities. Why aren't thousand $ sports bikes included in this judgement? Golfing equipment and fees? I've always enjoyed beautiful things, and things that make me feel good. I get facials, eat at nice restaurants, travel, like home decor, wear nice clothes, and handbags (of course!), but not because I need to show off, but because I enjoy it. And just like you, friends who would spend hundreds of $$ every weekend drinking, clubbing, and whatever else, would make comments about my choices. Like you said, what you put on is a costume. Some days you want to blend into the background and others you want to look like a peacock. Who cares? Everyone should mind their own business.
I appreciate art in all forms. I make fragrances. My materials can run from $5-50+ but there are many iterations (I've changed a formula about 100 times until I got it where I wanted it) and lots of maturing time. There are also some materials that cost thousands for a few drops (like real Oud). Some people think they can pay me just for the cost of a generic frag, for bespoke perfume. No honey, that's not how it works. If they want mass market, they can go to the mall. Another funny one is when they want a "cheap dupe" of something like Chanel, Le Labo, Creed, etc., how insulting. Lol. Anyhow, my point is, there are those that can appreciate quality, the craft, the sincerity of the designer and will pay for what they want. Value is all personal.
I have made my own perfume. I didn't like the snooping questions and sneering once they figured they couldn't imitate it. Some tried befriending me to get free work...? Like nah. Did they chase you down the street and demand to buy yours, despite only making it for yourself? The entitlement of some people. You're paying for the artist for their taste, their unique taste.
@@elyseb674 Oh yes, the Oud from Dubai is just amazing. It is so part of their culture and they know what is good and what is cheap, where a fragrance house tries to cut it with synthetic sandalwoods (cough Tom Ford). =)

I work in a casino and serve super rich people all the time. They’re just human like us. Some wear all the logos, Hermes head to toe, some don’t. 🤷🏻♀️ What is rich anyway? People who have nice things? So does that mean people with cash that don’t shop aren’t rich? Some “rich” don’t even have on hands because they have assets. You’re so on point with this video. “Who cares??” Exactly!
Hi Dacob, I always enjoy popping onto your channel ! I see this one a little differently. Silent luxury is a very real thing. And, I am drawn to a more understated style myself. Honestly I do observe that higher net worth individuals and families tend to steer clear of recognizable signs of consumption. They tend to go low key, not necessarily because they find the logos gouache (although they likely do) but so as not to draw too much unwanted attention. A book called “The Old Money Book” by Byron Tully is really a quick and interesting read. Essentially at a certain echelon there are certain core values and ways of being that are common to that ilk. Regards!!
They don't buy the YTer specials either. They also spend money on understated bespoke luxury goods. If you have to save for a Chanel bag, chances are you don't need one. People don't like the idea of living within their tax bracket imo.
People who go on about “Old money” and “silent luxury” is usually their code for “I’m racist/I’m classist” in my experience. From the rich and the poor alike.
ironically the people they try to impress genuinely are (Old Money is literally about the aristocracy and 'good breeding' i.e. staying "pure" - not the actual money) and it seems like white larping by mostly American black or broadly Asian demographics. Sad to see the self-loathing. Would like to see a new money that isn't tacky but doesn't bow to that assumption white = better. But rather than being original they just copy copy copy outfits with zero context. I live near the royal family in England and literally nobody cares. The staged photos are staged.
You said it. A lot of times, it's code for some sort of oppression and discrimination. This is one of the reasons I don't like Anna Bey, she says stuff like that pretty often. Greige is NOT a sign of wealth, Anna.
@cherries22 there are a lot of Asian people who are new money and wear logos to show that their company has succeeded and they’ve had success in life. Or going on about royalty not liking Louis Vuitton when the Thai royal family love it, it can be a very Eurocentric view about who “rich people” are, or whether they wear logos or not
I think real money is spent at Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli. Of course they love Chanel logos and birkins. But it’s Loro, Brunello and now maybe The Row.
I feel you!! I don’t smoke & drink. Never criticise to what they do with their money and yet I get bullied for what I enjoy buying. At the end the day I BUY MY HAPPPINESS and so as what everyone does 😀 We all deserve to be happy in anyways. Ahhh… I hope no one buys jealousy 😆
Been watching your channel for a while and I think this is my first time commenting. I can’t believe someone else thinks the same way I do. I prefer buying beautiful objects over going to restaurants because i’ll 💩 that food later and will be gone forever. My designer items, my dolls, my toys, I can enjoy them over and over again 💖 I love your videos! 💖
Luxury is for whoever is comfortable dropping the coins for it. I work HARD for my money and rather stay at home minding my business most of the time, if I want to spend my discretionary income on Chanel (Pre Métiers 2022 🤣) I WILL! The only people entitled to check my finances are the good folks from the IRS 🧐.
Well said Dacob. Opting for an expensive stuff with or without logo is the wearer's or owner's choice. Rich people know how to pamper themselves because they are comfortable and confident about the quality. Just like homes in posh locations, vehicles, planes, etc.
Well, for the last month I switched to Tory Burch and I’m satisfied with the brand because it gives me the same esthetic as Chanel. I’m also tired of people thinking my luxury bags are fake and/or questioning my finances. My bags were preloved. I’m definitely tired of seeing the same luxury brand of bags all over social media as if no other brands exist.
So true!! We all have our thing we Love to do/buy. I love what i love and i make my own money. In the pst i would hide my bags, shoe, clothes and only wear them when I felt i wouldn’t be judged. Now i wear it whenever i want. I still get comments but now i am older and bolder and not afraid to tell people to stay in their lane!!!
So true! Personally I love luxury and traveling and I do both. Was I able to afford it in my 20’s? Heck no! But now I can drive a nice car, buy my luxury items and travel. I do what I like to do and I won’t apologize for it. For as long as I can remember nice things always caught my eyes. My money, my choices. 😈 And yes, rich people totally buy these things IF they like it!
I think this is dependent on where you live. In the Midwest the really rich people don’t flash luxury logos. I rarely see luxury brands in Ohio. Even LV is rarely seen. They drive reasonable cars and buy quality brands. More likely to see multi millionaire here wearing Patagonia and Columbia clothes than Chanel. My former boss and owner of the company ( a multi millionaire) had lv bags but that was the only luxury she flashed.
patagonia ,lululemon leggings and a golden goose sneaker thats the look in manhattan or brooklyn heights in NYC..rich/wealthly folks love designer..wealthly is a zip code and your home and not to forget the watch they will wear a sweatsuit non descript but a expensive Rolex and Muller watches its the details
Hi Dacob… love from Melbourne Australia. I just wanted to make a small comment when it comes about the way we chose to spend our money my husband doesn’t care for designer clothing etc but spends thousands of dollars on wines and alcohol, me definitely designer bags and clothing. We should all do whatever makes us happy. Oh bye the way I love LV and always will. Just do you love ❤️
Thank you Anna and love to you and Melbourne! Hope to see you at the premiere of my movie at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival this coming July 29th, 2022. Tickets are available at www.artloversunite.com 💖💖💖
You are so right. When petty people have negative opinions about my labels I just say I can’t help it that they have bad taste and I have good taste. I love my things they make me happy. I am rich 🤑
Needed this! I have a modest designer handbag collection that I worked hard for and love but this whole “quiet luxury” thing was making me feel badly or like I’m trash because I’m not a millionaire but I’ve got a Lady Dior. I’m comfortably middle class with no debt and this video really helped me say screw the haters I love my designer bags and if some people will judge me for it then oh well.
It’s ultimately a matter of preference and taste. I know what it’s like to have nothing and now that I have an abundance, I am going to get what I like which is luxury and I like the logos - I like the aesthetic of them, period. Poor/super low class simply can’t afford Louis Vuitton, Dior, Chanel especially with these pricing increases. So the idea that poor people try to look rich wearing them is absurd to me.
it's middle-class people watching too many Anna Bey videos thinking they'll fit in by being a mean girl also calls prettier women Plain Jane, because they think we can't judge things for ourselves like, Kate Middleton is NOT plain literally modelled
I’m so late to this video but I love your content! I totally agree with everything you said! I don’t have a whole lot of money for luxury but I really enjoy vintage (which I acknowledge isn’t for everyone) especially Gucci. I love LV too but I’m not a vachetta girl it gives me anxiety. I think they’re well made and appropriate for my casual lifestyle as a SAHM of 4. I know when people see me they judge that I’m spending a lot but I’ve never paid more than coach outlet prices and I have no debt. Just another reminder that when people see luxury items they don’t know if they’re gifted or inherited or vintage or thrifted or bought price full with YOUR money that you choose to spend on the things YOU love. People are way too into other peoples pockets. I’m transparent when asked but I don’t feel like I need to explain myself and I don’t care if people think I spend 200 or 5000. I love my modest collection and it’s no one’s business except me and hubby. Thanks for the great video!
Love your POV. Well, I have a degree from STEM (funded through scholarships), fancy job at FAANG company, own a house, pension fund and and and (meaning I did my part in life) but still am heavily and relentlessly judged on my luxury purchases, preached about stock & property investment (thank you, my second degree is financial markets so no, thank you) and on top of that sugar daddy comments from other women (hello husband, I wish). I couldn't care less these days but it's pathetic.
quiet luxury is a thing, especially with people I know who are “old money”. I have monogram LV, and Gucci, however my true loves are Hermes & Loewe. It’s all about personal taste. I do see new money people that I know running straight for the logos as soon as they can afford them. Me, I’d rather run to Hermes. Again, just my preference. Quiet luxury is definitely a thing.
Totally agree about the 5 star restaurants lol,I’m gonna be at home with a bucket of strawberries after like a field mouse even if Gordon Ramsay himself cooked that food
Bwahhaha! My work gave me lots of opportunities to high fine dining, and I made the mistake of inviting my boyfriend (now husband). He held it together during the meal, but right afterwards we had to go for pizza so he could eat enough to sleep that night. LOL
I guess the answer is somewhere in-between. Certain brands may attract more "poor" people who want to look rich, like LV. Trust me every other commuter on a subway train is carrying a LV - real or fake I don't know. On the other hand Hermes is selling fast but I don't see them everywhere they are likely napped up by the really rich people only.
I think they did a study about logomania and people who bought like that were more insecure (Neurotic). Neurotic is not the same as desperate. The Dressing Expensive crowd (ANNA) are desperate. Every time I see too much beige and the same pinterest outfits it's like they're screaming VALIDATE ME. The status signal shifts until the target group becomes counter-signalled. The rich dress like the poor because nobody would serious mistake them, they're trying to deter the middle-class, whom everyone hates. THEY make the judgey statements about what "luxury" is based on TV sponsorships and magazine adverts. Marketing hype is not reality.
I couldn't agree more! People are so quick to judge fashion lovers for buying expensive goods, as if it's superficial and selfish...but the more you pay for an item, the less likely it is to have been made in a sweatshop by underpaid and underage workers. Obviously not all luxury brands are ethical, but I'd be willing to bet most are a lot nicer to their employees than SheIn. I splurged on a Michael Kors bag recently and although it isn't nearly as prestigious as LV or Hermes, it certainly feels luxurious compared to the type of bags I'm used to (Rosetti on clearance at Kohl's). I would love to own an even fancier bag, and I can't imagine hating on someone for having the very same things I'm saving up for.
This topic is a bit controversial, depends which kind of rich we're talking about..style & culture as well. Nowadays even Brunello Cucinelli, Bottega Veneta & Loro Piana are jumping ship, plastering logos or being all over social media.. I have a few friends who spend tons of money of shoes, bags etc but never go on vacation or go out for dinner, on contrary they'll be judging me for traveling. Each to their own, i prefer to do both in moderation
I get the food thing - I would rather have Outback than the fanciest steak house because I know what I like - I have been to fancy restaurants where they give you one lettuce leaf and call it a salad _ LOL
At the end of the day some people like high quality health/foods/cars/clothing/traveling experiences. My main priorities are good health, good food and traveling experiences with a decent car and clothing. But that’s just me! Everyone live your life and be happy for you not for people online or offline! 🧡
Omg I had a friend like that. Taxis, expensive food, partying. I walk everywhere, bring my own lunch to work, only go out occasionally, but I like nice clothes/accessories. They couldn’t figure out how I could afford my wardrobe 😂 I think I spend less on my clothes than they spent on daily conveniences and fun
OMG Dacob, you made some excellent well thought out points👍 Bit off topic but I love my small collection of luxury bags, but was made to feel utterly guilty by my relatives for treating myself with MY OWN MONEY after completing some tough projects. They always tell me why I don't donate to the poor, instead of going around with my luxury bags. It honestly used to make me feel bad about using my small luxury collection. Thks so much for this video, I can finally ENJOY my luxury bags.
I can literally relate so much to the college point My country gives us a stipend for going to college and I know people who literally spent it on expensive hair extensions and skateboards… lol
Great topic Dacob!! You are right some super rich are down to earth and may not dress rich to prove it. But the super rich definitely have more options in where they want to spend their money or show it! But i do agree we shouldn't generalise anything. TFS Dacob!
To each their own. I got judged about bags over “vacation experiences”. I let them know that I hate packing, unpacking, cleaning & putting away things so unless they do it for me n my whole family they should keep to their own. 😜 thanks for sharing my love. ❤️😘😘😘Sandy
I have a super rich aunt. My grand parents were rich but my family isn't as much. So my aunt is old money. She doesn't wear fancy stuff in daily basis. But definitely when she is around other super rich ppl, the logos are gonna be there.
Sorry to comment on an older video. You are right people should be happy for others when they find and purchase something they love. You're an artist of course you are going to love beautiful things. I think Chanel bags are lovely but I would never hate on someone for having something I don't. I have a close family member that actually becomes angry when I buy boots, perfume and jewelry. These are things I love and bring me joy. This person thinks that because she doesn't value them I shouldn't have them. It just seems so weird that some people care so much about what others have. Like you if I love it I'm going to buy it. Wear your Chanel bags with pride. Quiet luxury is boring to me but I would never try to shame someone that enjoys it. 🐈⬛🐈👢👠
Thank you so much LadyJo 🥰🙏🏻💖 and I love to see comments on my past videos! Shows me that they are still relevant today and that makes me very happy 🥰💖🌅
I have a RUclips channel and I would never make comments about what buying a specific item means or put down someone for liking a particular brand or logo. I’m tired of these comments that allege that logos are for poor people. Puh-lease!
ironically Anna looks like the very chavs she is mocking fake tan, filler face, too skinny body, straw fake blonde hair, hair extensions, gross gel nails that are dirty underneath (can't see to clean), plastic surgery (esp nose job) and coarse attitude to prettier women e.g. and the women she tries to call plain jane are just naturally gorgeous, which she can't stand called a cope or high on copium online
I feel the "quiet luxury" is more applicable to clothing than handbags and accessories, e.g. a Max Mara coat versus a coat plastered in the Balenciaga logo. I don't judge either but I know which one I'd prefer to wear. My idea of luxury might be different to the next person's idea and that's fine.
People will judge you based on their own circumstances, or ideology. Whatever ideal means to them. Those are people that have not yet made there in life to be able to see further than the length of their nose. My personal preference when it comes to logos is "one logo per outfit max" . I would not wear a LV monogram bag, and a pair of shoes with the LV monogram at the same time. That's just me. Same with any other brand.
In reality it’s all about “attachments” and if we are defining ourselves & our worth based on those attachments. I have beautiful luxury items & a luxury car. I continually check in with myself regarding acquiring these items. Do I want those things so that I feel more valuable & others will notice me??? Nope….I’d still want the things I have even if no one else ever saw me! I don’t show these items on social for security. No one on social has ever seen a pic of my home, car, etc. I often find it interesting how I’m treated differently, especially regarding my vehicle….It actually shows how shallow our society can truly be. As long as we aren’t looking for validation & self worth from ANYTHING we have or do, we are free💫💕🙏
You are right, Poor people cannot possibly keep these Logo brands in business for a century now. Actually it is because of the really rich people that "poor" people want to imitate.LOOOOL
I think that argument comes from rich people (old money) that do not understand how we working class and some new money rich people expend our money in luxury bags, clothing others unnecessary things. Old money rich people mindset is different. They don’t understand it, but they do not judge. Those that judge fashion lovers are some new rich and some people that are building some money and want to be (never will be), look like old money. We love our luxury brands and we can afford it, so be it. We might never be rich 😂 but it definitely gives us some pleasure. We really love the brands, The history, the design. it is a passion. Nothing to do with social status. And btw Hermes, Chanel and Louis Vuitton bags are considered investment in finance 😊
Old money people are not a monolith. I've met people who have money going back generations and they'll buy name brands like anyone else. I've also met old money people with holes in their shoes and sweaters. It's all about what people give importance to, some people buy jewelry, others buy art, others cars. Some people hoard their money as if they're going to get buried and resurrected with it. In the end we nee to live for ourselves, not anyone else's imposed ideals.
I've been lectured about it before. "If I were you, I'd use your money on an experience instead of that." Well, sometimes whatever I've purchased is an experience, at least to me. I save my clothes and bags to use for years (mostly).
Omg… if I had a penny for each time people told me exactly that same sentence… I’d be a billionaire 🤣🤣🤣🙏🏻💖💖💖
Great points Breona 🥰🙏🏻💖🌈🌅
Omg yes.
Yeah those statues are antiques and made from Carrara marble ;)
Like Hublot is a good one. BOYY makes luxury bags but highly doubt the fast fashion crowds would know anything about them.
Yeah like on Antiques roadshow, there was a vintage Omega watch before the NASA moonwalk, like if you have serious money you wouldn’t buy anything that can be brought in a shop at all, it would be all haute couture
@@Skyebright1 Exactly. Or rare cars that literally cost millions of dollars.
@@comoelitamelendez8467 lmao if you're tryna say that hublot is quiet luxury you don't know watches lmfao 🤣🤣🤣
@@lamontbaker3337 it’s their money, people can spend it how they like
@@Skyebright1 I agree with you. That does not make it smart.
We need to feel good and if a cute handbag helps us feel good then I say wear the handbag and enjoy 🥰🥰🥰💖
@@lesly7831 same here no fake for me, I prefer real cause they make me good.
Why the capital CHANEL?
But do u own your home!?
@@martinsanders6915 Putting the money in a low cost S&P500 index fund would have been a better choice.
glad that this topic is in the discussion! i always get criticised by my friends saying i like expensive stuff (although I never had luxury items). but when I had a good quality item either bags, shoes etc. they would mock me 'wow that's so expensive (side-eyeing)'. yet they use iphone which is also expensive?? so it's ok to buy hundreds and thousands of gadgets. but when it comes to fashion, I get heavily judge 🙄
double down
"that looks expensive..."
"omg YES it WAS" (like talking to a stupid child) "THANK YOU for noticing!"
they usually visibly flinch or back up, it's hilarious
just talk down to them about how "smart" they are to recognise it, condescending to the max
they stop. oh boy, they stop.
sometimes you get asked how much it was and be like "I dunno, I don't think happiness can be measured, you know?" just go nuts with it like Karen from Will and Grace. "I picked it because it matched my favourite bikini but I lost it on my third husband's second favourite yacht"
99% of the time they don't realise you're Fing with them
Seems like you need better friends.
At least with the bag it will last for a long time and if you decide to sell it you can get money back while with a tech gadget you spend all that money only to have to replace it after a couple years now that is a waste of money...

Well, he works in IT, nerds generally do wear simple t-shirts, hoodies, etc 😆. Take that into account. People from different professions act differently. Same with different heritage and upbringing.
What is poor?!?!?
verbal abuse technically, sometimes stalking and street harassment
it's no more ok if women do it
I think it’s the people who go on about “quiet luxury” who are insecure, real wealthy people could care less
Amelia Rose did a great video on the fact that she actually lived in poverty as child, and that the talk about “poor people” was actually offensive
I agree with you! I’m not rich and also not poor but I buy Gucci or lv when I have saved up my money because I love them. I don’t buy to look rich! Whoever started this nonsense is probably a bully who hates luxury
Who cares, stop doing things and spending THOUSANDS for someone’s approval.
THANK YOU its sooo frustrating, if i carry one of my luxtury bags i constantly get "i cannot believe you spent that much money on a bag". " i absolutely would never spend that amount of money on a bag".
Bc I'm a normal ass woman with normal money.
I think it's called levelling? Envious people and their passive, relational aggression.
🙏🏻🥰💖
I think it was “It cost a lot of money to look this cheap”
@@lienecarter6411 ah it was cheap, why did I type poor? 😂 thank you for correcting
Nailed it
Well said dear 👏👏👏💖🌅🌈
So true
Ok Kelly but your Ferrari wasn’t.
lmfao love your comment
Yeah they seem a little clueless ;)

Agree the idea that apparently royalty don’t like Louis Vuitton ignores the Thai royal family, who love it
Also, people judge luxury fashion because fashion is seen as feminine and womanly, and a LOT of people hate women (including a lot of other women). This is core to a lot of hatred out there, especially towards people who don't follow the rules of standard gender expression, or who are trans (hdu eschew masculinity to be... gasp!...a feeeeemale). It's because it's girly to want to look good with high quality stuff.
Good points 🙏🏻💗💖
this!
Now *this* is a word. Yes ma'am.
I save up to buy luxury items, whether it’s an SLG or a bag. It truly makes me feel like crap when they criticize me for having expensive items and I’ve even been told that someone from my background doesn’t deserve it. At the end of the day, fake people only care about an image they want to maintain and authentic and real people don’t give a flying rip what others think. That’s me in a nutshell 😂😂
Yeah people with genuine style can have it because they don’t have money to waste
MHO
I think people who own 10k Chanel and Hermes bags have no issue with their finances ;)
The “wealthy” will buy whatever the hell they like! Whatever that is! Whether that’s logomania or not; and so they should!!!
As should the “regular” person who maybe doesn’t have a disposable income but has saved up and will also do WHATEVER THEY LIKE with THEIR money.

most very richy rich people do not want to be targets for kidnappings, so they do not carry around logos much if their bodyguards are not with them or they are not in a compound with other richy riches. doesn’t mean their outdoorsy rain jacket did not cost 5k if you see them out. the kind of level of wealth like that you don’t see much of anyways. they live kind of separate in their castles because of threats to their family. for example my friend drives a BMW that has the diplomat-package: extra bottom reinforcement against bombs and bulletproof windows. car looks the same as any 5 series, but weighs like a ton more. that is very silent luxury i guess but is that kind of life really luxurious? luxury to me is doing what i want whenever i want.
👏👏👏💖
Great video! It’s so true - people are either worried about how others spend their money OR trying to “flex” on someone else and it’s silly and exhausting. I wish folks focused on making themselves happy instead of hyper focused on other peoples lives.

I love designer items because it's art.
It's declasse, not depasse. A thing can be passe but not depasse. Declasse refers to lacking in class or of a lower social status - lower social class.
@@kdijack1089 I believe the class system to be something of the past : Dépassé, démodé, out-of-fashion, not in vogue. Though I do agree those social média influencers need to get off their high horses, it's a very poor (bad) taste.

Thank you Anto A 🙏🏻💖🥰

Yup historically people were big on opulence and colour ;), even having laws about what people who weren’t in the aristocracy could wear
You had me at Oud. Had a layover in Dubai recently. My nose was SO happy to breathe in this exotic scent on the fellow passengers.
@@elyseb674 Oh yes, the Oud from Dubai is just amazing. It is so part of their culture and they know what is good and what is cheap, where a fragrance house tries to cut it with synthetic sandalwoods (cough Tom Ford). =)

Regards!!
I’m gonna check that book, sounds interesting I’m usually more interested In novels but you intrigued me.
They don't buy the YTer specials either. They also spend money on understated bespoke luxury goods. If you have to save for a Chanel bag, chances are you don't need one. People don't like the idea of living within their tax bracket imo.

ironically the people they try to impress genuinely are (Old Money is literally about the aristocracy and 'good breeding' i.e. staying "pure" - not the actual money) and it seems like white larping by mostly American black or broadly Asian demographics. Sad to see the self-loathing. Would like to see a new money that isn't tacky but doesn't bow to that assumption white = better. But rather than being original they just copy copy copy outfits with zero context.

This is an example of misinformation.
Great video! Thanks for posting! ❤️
So the idea that poor people try to look rich wearing them is absurd to me.
it's middle-class people watching too many Anna Bey videos thinking they'll fit in by being a mean girl
also calls prettier women Plain Jane, because they think we can't judge things for ourselves
like, Kate Middleton is NOT plain
literally modelled
And speak on it!🗣 The same people that say these things will spend 5-10k on a section at the club or cheap booze every weekend.

I especially like the last message of this video. Wise words Dacob! Thank you! :)
I think when it stays your personal preference it’s fine, but when people get judgy then people rightfully get upset
💯
Totally agree about the 5 star restaurants lol,I’m gonna be at home with a bucket of strawberries after like a field mouse even if Gordon Ramsay himself cooked that food
The fancy restaurants always leave me hungry haha
Amen 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💖🌅
Good points, it’s like about swearing, the middle class don’t do it, the rich and the lower class couldn’t care less
Thank you Miranda 🙏🏻💖
This topic is a bit controversial, depends which kind of rich we're talking about..style & culture as well. Nowadays even Brunello Cucinelli, Bottega Veneta & Loro Piana are jumping ship, plastering logos or being all over social media..
I have a few friends who spend tons of money of shoes, bags etc but never go on vacation or go out for dinner, on contrary they'll be judging me for traveling. Each to their own, i prefer to do both in moderation
Why is this soo me, except judging people 😩🤣🤣
Logomania is in, I think companies go where the money is
I get the food thing - I would rather have Outback than the fanciest steak house because I know what I like - I have been to fancy restaurants where they give you one lettuce leaf and call it a salad _ LOL
At the end of the day some people like high quality health/foods/cars/clothing/traveling experiences.
My main priorities are good health, good food and traveling experiences with a decent car and clothing. But that’s just me!
Everyone live your life and be happy for you not for people online or offline! 🧡

My country gives us a stipend for going to college and I know people who literally spent it on expensive hair extensions and skateboards… lol
Well said ! You always bringing truth to the humble.
🙏🏻🌅💖🥰
Great topic Dacob!! You are right some super rich are down to earth and may not dress rich to prove it. But the super rich definitely have more options in where they want to spend their money or show it! But i do agree we shouldn't generalise anything. TFS Dacob!
I need more of you Dacob, love hearing your thoughts ❤
🥰🙏🏻💖
A needed discussion!!! Thank you Dacob
Reminds me of the snooty sales people that judge you when you shop at luxury places… like if you look like you can afford it but they obviously can’t.
I totally agree with you, such a fresh air from everyone on RUclips. It is also so true in my experience.
Thank you Teresa 🙏🏻💖
I have a RUclips channel and I would never make comments about what buying a specific item means or put down someone for liking a particular brand or logo. I’m tired of these comments that allege that logos are for poor people. Puh-lease!
ironically Anna looks like the very chavs she is mocking
fake tan, filler face, too skinny body, straw fake blonde hair, hair extensions, gross gel nails that are dirty underneath (can't see to clean), plastic surgery (esp nose job) and coarse attitude to prettier women e.g.
and the women she tries to call plain jane are just naturally gorgeous, which she can't stand
called a cope or high on copium online
All what you are saying is real and true. I love you !💜🧡💙 '' luxury is the opposite of vulgarity'' end quote. How beautiful 💚🧡💙💜
Its not for poor people who want to look rich. It is more for the middle class to upper middle class to look like they are the upper class.
Fair but I think everything but haute couture has always been like that, so individual brands can’t be singled out
Even if I don't like fashion, I still won't buy Zara clothing since the quality is bad and materials are not comfy....
Spot on as usual Dacob!
@cherries22 for a century? The original buyers were the very wealthy, even now Chanel is pushing to the very very wealthy
It’s aspirational shoppers who keep those brands afloat
I think it’s more middle class people going on about what “real rich people” do, I don’t think people with money care what other people think
Enjoy! But there is no lack of understanding in my experience.
Agree Amelia Rose did a good video on this as well
Yeah people buy Hermes blankets that most people won’t see
but it's in all their social media posts or how will you know? :P
So right Dacob, you can't have everything in life.
