  • Hello and welcome to a very short stay at Pluckley station on the Southeastern Mainline where we see services purely from Southeastern. I only spent an hour here seeing as there was no freight coming through to break things up, it's a nice enough little station but there is nothing to do.
The station was opened in 1842 by the South Eastern Railway when this section of the line was extended to Headcorn and Ashford, the first train passed through the station on December 1st of that year. The station was initially built to serve the Pluckley Brick and Tile Works that were located towards the west of the station, but it was then eventually used as a freight depot for Southwark Manure Company. This was to get manure out from London to serve the farms around Kent.
The station was closed to goods in 1965 and the signal box that served the station was closed in 1967. The station building hasn't changed since it was first built.
My next station will be Headcorn just a few miles up the line.

Hi Tornado922. Nice film at Pluckley, even though it was a short one. Looking forward to watching the next film at Headcorn. Kind regards, Chris.

Nice to have a little video to get back in the swing of things: I have the concentration span of a distracted gnat so have only managed chunks of your long-form videos. Doesn't look like the most inhospitable little place, but it's definitely not a hive of activity, put it that way!

this is the issue I face when I'm doing a mainline series is that I am going to encounter stations that are quite simply god awful to film at!

I believe the 465's can and are used on the runs to Dover Priory from London Victoria, so maybe one of those will break up the run of 375's that you have seen so far in this Southeastern Mainline series!

      Really?
Because the Class 465s can't do the London - Dover route

@@robertmwamba945 They can from Victoria from what I remember but it is predominantly the 375's from both Victoria and Charing Cross.

As I have stated previously, whenever I do a mainline series I will start from one end and work my way up to the other. In this instance it's from Dover to London Charing Cross. This means that I will be going to every station along that section of line, whilst the traction isn't 'exciting' I still have to give every station a fair chance. As there may be some unique quirks to these stations that you may not find elsewhere around the country, and trust me I know full dam well that it's not gonna be the most invigorating of videos I'm ever gonna produce because I'm the one standing at these stations!
