Not many are wondered because most of us know the talent of SPB.
The beauty of SPB is when he sings for differnet heroes he tailors his voice accordingly to suite the hero.
In the movie, this song is actually sung by a Multi talented person - who describes a marriage being held in forest and the animals / birds / insects performing various activities accordingly he sounds similar when those creatures perform.
This is a great depiction by the Legend SPB

I general, yes - he fluently switches between languages. But in this case it's just one line, right? Looked like he accidentally defaulted to Tamil. 😄
I only know Kannada, this song on the context of the movie is very heartbreaking. It's a movie about a single independent strong woman. It inspired a lot of woman when it was released, the acting of Suhasini is one of the best performances in Indian cinema. The movie title is "Benkiyalli Aralida Hoovu" which means A flower that bloomed in fire.
The reason for the audience sitting without reaction was, they knew he did it 45 years back, and didn't want to spoil their once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness it live by screaming or shouting. And the song is sung by failed lover at his lover's wedding. So lyrics are enjoyable for the wedding audience in the movie and at the same time give a sad feeling to the movie audience. It's a really complicated situation created by the great Balachandar garu. You should watch this movie. And it's the first movie of Rajini sir also.

Hi guys, he is the only singer who can absolutely mimic the actor voice and his vocal mannerisms. For example, if he is singing for a Chirangeevi’s movie … in the song he would sound as though Chiru is singing that song. And when he singing for Nagarjuna’s movie… he would sond like Nag is singing that song. He does that mimicry. I don’t if he did this in other south languages… but At least he has done this in Telugu film songs.

I have suggested this from the tamil film couple of years before when there were thousands of comments. Kamal Hassan would perform on marriage stage. It would be the story for kids who were watching and real for the heroine who sacrifice her lover for her sister. It was from the tamil film Aval oru thodar kathai from K. Balachandar's direction. Music composed by MS Viswanathan.

Here is the context:
Kamal Hassan falls in love one sided with the bride in whose marriage this is orchestrated.
Since it is a celebration he cannot express his sadness since lot of kids and families are there celebrating the marriage
Since Kamal Hasan is a mimicry artist, he performs at the wedding venting out his emotions (melancholy) without hindering the celebration at the same time contributing to that with his performance.

Watch him perform sangeetha jathi mullai in voice of legends concert. Everyone in south grew up with his voice. Lullaby, love, breakup, death - his voice soothed every emotion. When he died, the crowd to gather a glimpse of his last journey tells you all about the love he had. He was loved, respected by everyone. He was a singer, actor, producer, music director and most of all a great human being, which is why he reached the heights he did. He used to be the voice of salman Khan and contributed to many of his hits. You’ve still not heard the best of him.
