My First Gibson: Jake Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet

- Undeniably one of the most iconic six-strings of all time, the SG is a guitar played by many but tamed by few. Conquering a guitar with this much personality and grit, it’s clear why Jake Kiszka plays the Gibson SG.
At the age of 12, Jake and his dad visited a local Guitar Center, where Jake stumbled across an entirely new experience, the SG. It was kismet. Looking back, Jake believes that the SG gave him a new form of expression, “getting the first Gibson that I had gave me identity.”
This is Jake Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet and his episode of My First Gibson.

He is playing the Archer during the intro of this! It's funny how he snuck that in there and no one even knew 🤙🤍
When I heard The Archer for the first time when Starcatcher came out back in July I knew I heard that riff before but I couldn’t put my finger on it right away. 😆
@@michaelsaville9985I was just watching red rocks back and Jake played the entirety of the weight of dreams literally like 2 years before it came out
@@aubreececilia2673 that’s right! Black Flag Exposition became The Weight of Dreams. So weird hearing it without the final lyrics 😵💫
Him saying "I don't know a reality without a guitar" is also my reality. Got my first one around 6 or 7. Its an integral part of who I am.
lame
Same
What's your band called
i could honestly listen to him talk for hours, he’s so passionate. its fascinating to watch someone with such an appreciation for the instrument
I agree! Every member of GVF is so passionate and invested in what they do and I love seeing that! Cant wait to see him live in December it’s going to be awesome!
He does talk about it like he's doing something. Grates upon me. Maybe instead of talking about it passionately, he should practice and take lessons passionately.
@@Echocat59 imagine replying to almost every comment on this video to hate on someone young appreciating music and art. i hope u have the day u deserve(:
@@alymacewen5771 geez. Sure sorry. They put this out for the world to see. It's his playing that's the issue. Not my observation.
He’s just like me I picked up a 61 SG les Paul first ever real guitar I have two of them and two Marshall cabinets with a Marshall 50 watt head and a 65 twin reverb I could shoot the shit with him all day!
Smart move Gibson! Getting a young, articulate rock star out there in front of the camera to introduce his generation to the awesomeness that Gibson guitars have always dripped with ... keep it up!
Yeah it's just that they are about 20 years late.
@@xLightcrystalx yup. Plus, the quality for the price is shit. Gibson's golden era is gone and jake from greta led zepplin ain't gonna bring that back.
@@339blackdiamond Greta van fleet not Greta led zeppelin they are two completely different bands and Robert plant has said in interviews that he likes greta! much love 🪬
This actually the only "young" placer I have seen during the last years that chose a Gibson guitar... Fender is definately winning the competition since they are supporting young and upcoming bands in almost any genre. Went to a few festivals like coachella for example as well as blues and metal festivals and the vast majority plays Fender. Quality control seems a lot better with Fender as well
Too bad the young people probably can’t afford the good quality ones
Extremely underrated for such a high level of discipline. A true guitarist
Hahahaha... Just a copy
@@Markcello Honestly man, with their newest album that's not even the case anymore. Sure, they have that general classic rock influence, but I can't find anything off that album where It seems like they're just trying to copy something. The dude is a good guitar player.
Discipline?
@@Markcello Ha ha, jealous much? Grow up
This young man and his brothers, are so inspiring! Such a driven group of players. Absolutely love 'em!
His instrument really suits him!
King is slaying here. 10/10
I saw Greta in concert here in South Dakota a couple weeks ago. I was very impressed with his energy and really spent most of the time watching him!
Cool dude. Wise beyond his years.
jake kiszka is genuinely the coolest person on the planet. so incredible talented, passionate and articulate
I bet he is gonna get a signature model soon
I'd like to see the relic version of his with the lower bout held on with Gaffer's Tape.
I hope he does get a signature model. The SG isn't my thing, however I can still really appreciate them.
Dosent deserve one.
@@Echocat59 Im searcing reply's just to read your comments
@@Echocat59 he deserves one just as much as anyone else does.
@@Echocat59 why not?
jake was playing the archer before we even knew what the archer was
CANT WAIT TO SEE YOU GUYS LIVE AGAIN!!!
Nice Gibson. I love this guy and his band. Nice to see young guys rockin it up.
i can relate to jake in a way, i got my first guitar at 5 and have been playing ever since. i understand him when he says he doesn’t remember a time without a guitar. although, i am nowhere near as good as he is and never will be, i still feel connected to him through his music.
While not a big fan of their music, I'm just glad new rock bands with guitar in the forefront are making it
yup i agree
Ditto
a master at his craft and is very well spoken.
Only he's not that good. He just talks like that and has expensive gear. Thats the truth.
@@Echocat59 must be that good for you to comment. jealous much?
Jake is so fucking talented as is all of GVF listening to him play is insane
I am not familiar with the artist, but the slide is really good 👍! Warren Haynes eclectic mix of style and force with a virtuoso touch. I can’t help but remember Rory Gallagher from the piece here!
Greta Van Fleet, check them out. AWESOME!
this is jake kiszka from greta van fleet! they are worth checking out. my favorite band :) i’m seeing them live twice this year hahaha
Yikes man. This dude ain't rory or Warren. Take it easy. Hahaha
@@Echocat59 He is going the right direction compared to the other stuff that you hear now. I am impressed mostly that isn’t a sweep picking tapper who attempts to shred. It is melodic and strong. I hope that guitar comes back. Tip a Guinness to you.
@@fenatic7484 he's going in a direction. I am glad he's getting younger people into guitar. Not trying to knock the guy really. He dosent have the natural ability of rory or Warren. He will have to fight for it harder. He needs lessons. He needs to break free from comfortable playing. I too am happy he's not tapping and shredding. The goal is to be able to do it all. To know when not to play. A lot of people in this comments section call him a "virtuoso ". That he's not. That's not to say he can't get there. He just dosent have that naturally. He has rhythm possibly
jake youre the coolest human being ever
What he said! Honestly dude, I'm turning sixty this year. Milwaukee, WI, 1975. Yamaha acoustic up until that point. SG standard was the first. Why, because Pete played them. Anyway, it definitely shaped my approach to the electric guitar. Stupidly, I traded that awesome '70s SG for a Les. Why, because Pete had switched. I have another one now though. It is great to see the yoot get retro with guitar approach. And what a great band.
He's playing the Archer in the beginning !! Haha good move
Jake is better than some people realize. He has a really great feel and the TONE OF A GOD. He got lucky with his particular SG/Les Paul as it's as good as it really gets in my opinion. His hands are part of it. I heard him on a Les Paul Custom at Carter's and he had pretty much that same tone almost.
Really excellent guitar, excellent band and excellent guitar player!!!
Def a killer first guitar
So excited to hear him live
i can’t wait to see him live in october
Jake is wicked!!!
My first Gibson was a 2009 light metallic blue Raw Power SG,It sounded great to me because it was just my first Gibson.
Not him teasing “The Archer” at the beginning🤭
It's HARD to choose, but I think Jake is my favorite in the band!!! 🩷🩷🩷
How can we get a longer version of this
Jake Kiszka you will always be famous.
I heard It só much bands live and this guy is The Best guitar Ive hear
This guy is fabulous 💯
The oldies are mad again lol. Love to see it.
Jake is an absolute Guitar-God❤️ he is the reason why I picked up my guitar again after about a year
Great choise my first Gibson was a 1969 SG Special with Tremolo exactly like Pete Townsend 👍 then changed to 71 SG Standard 2 years later when I was into Cream I have a Les Paul Jr for the P90 sound and Les Paul with custom made Reverend BP Pickups. Reverend as in made for Billy Gibbons the maker had an extra set and sold them to me
My first Gibson was a burgundy-colored Les Paul Studio. I love it. This band rocks.
That's exactly what my first Gibson was!
I love Jake Kiszka! GVF is my favorite band love their music and message very inspiring 💖
This is my hero!!!
DO IT JAKEY!!!!
jake is the coolest ever
JAKEYYYYYY
he’s so cool
i love you jake
Cant wait to see you guys in Stockholm!!
my first gibson is my eb5 wine red. 2nd. is my lpb-2 amber. 👍👍👍👍
do it jakey
GVF gets too much hate. They have an awesome sound that builds upon the classics while still keeping it original 🤘
they are literally led zeppelin lmao. might as well have names the band led zeppelin jr.
My first Gibson, a black custom Les Paul, purchased at the Vox music, Sacramento for $700 at the end of June 1979! Just after graduating 10th grade.
Don't have the guitar, but still have the receipt! Lol
I purchased a new Les Paul Deluxe in 1977 when I was also in 10th grade, it set me back $565. I also don't have it anymore, I've only the pink registration card to remember it by.
@@hkguitar1984 cool. Now i have a red gibson sg, and a 2017 black LP, w tremolo bar, a blue epiphone LP, a black epiphone LP, ana Jackson strat style
@@mannybravo237 I've more guitars than I deserve right now, however only 1 Gibson.
Cool story about my Gibson, back in 2001 I ran across it on Ebay and in-passing mentioned it to the wife. I found it interesting as I'd never seen a maple fingerboard Les Paul Custom from 1986.
It was finished in all natural with a 1-Piece mahogany back and neck with a plain 3-piece maple top.
The next day at work I tried to pull up the listing to show a co-worker and it was gone, SOLD.
About a week went by and to my total surprise when pulling up to the house after work there was a guitar box leaning against the back door! YUP, in total secrecy my Wife purchased that guitar for me. That was back in 2001. To this day that guitar has been rock solid. Our Son used it to learn how to play and I've been jamming on it continuously ever since.
@@mannybravo237 I need to get myself an SG some day, very cool Manny
I'm quite sure no video of Live at Leeds exists. A lot of RUclips clips will merge concert footage from Isle of Wight and other clips with the audio from the Leeds album but that's about it.
Jake had the benefit of vinyls, film that his parents and their parents collected. I think Live at Leeds was recorded by the BBC when it happened. That's what I have read.
@@sonia55408 Believe me, I'd love to be wrong and see a film of LAL. I think it's the best live album ever, but only several minutes of it exist on film. Most of what is purported to be Leeds is audio of the album over top of stitched together clips of other shows. I'm just saying, anyone saying "I remember watching Live at Leeds and seeing...." probably did not.
I was thinking Isle of Wight as well. Have not seen footage of Live at Leeds.
Probably the best young guitarist out there, IMO.
Very differnet, but on an entire different level: Tim Henson
There are so many young guitar players out there that are so good. This kid ain't one of em.
@@Echocat59 LOL. You think he isn't good guitar player?
Jake is damn good but Daniel Donato is the best young player with a name in my humble opinion man can play every genre but shreds country like he is smoking meth with his Tele and a compression pedal
@@ewefturkey his skill level is easily reachable after playing guitar for 2 years, so nope. He has the chops and stuff so he made it with his band.
Which song is that cool Riff he is playing at The beginning of this vídeo ?
It’s called The Archer, which was released by them in their new album
From which song is this riff at the beginning
Please do this with more new musicians coming up, like Marcus King or John Notto from Dirty Honey. Great to give newer bands a spotlight!
Me encanta la sg
La mejor guitarra del mundo por masacre
jake♥️
Isn’t a Gibson SG Standard with P90s actually a Gibson SG Special?
Fuckin’ gnarly tone… in a good way.
Light-weight, balanced, solid body, full-fret access-The SG rules in that category. Every Gibson player should have an SG.
SGs have horrible neck dive. not balanced at all
Good job Gibson, you just got yourself a new customer 💪
now Jake needs a Signature guitar!!
El mejor😍😍😍😍
2.30 pretty high action on his guitar there. Im surprised. He goes allright
I’ve got to get my shit together
If only Gibson would deliver the Dave Mustaine Flying V I purchased back in February. I'd wax poetically about it too.
❤
Frankenmuth gang!!!
mine was a 64 Melody Maker
I have my SG standard 61
Me too
I've played SG's since I 1st started playing! Cool guitars, sound & play great! Nothing else like them! Only a Gibson is good enough!
What does he play at 1:10?
The Archer
@@Tityretupatulaethanks!
bonitoooooo
Pretty cool dad to buy a Gibson SG for you.
I can't wait to see GVF with Pretty Reckless in a couple of months. Time for some new blood to take their turn
If Jake ever got his name put on a guitar it should be this Gibson in particular. Even now whenever I see a red SG I immediately think of Jake. He’s an amazing guitar player with nothing b hit talent and passion and it’s so inspiring to see😊
Gibsons are my favorite, but the custom shop prices are rediculous.
Did I just hear a Who riff at 1:14 ?
“I don’t really know a reality without a guitar”.. well, I don’t know a reality without Greta Van Fleet so I understand 😂❤️
I can totally relate😂 I don't really know where I would be without them
@@Dalisa516 same
@@Dalisa516 Listening to Led Zeppelin just like everyone older than you.
@@zachsabbath1 i already listen to led Zeppelin quite a lot. I even have every album in vinyl. So that's not gonna be a problem.
This is such a selling statement
I can't stand the comparisons to Led Zeppelin, ya know they don't make music anymore. I love Greta, the coolest band to come out recently. If you like zeppelin, then you should be glad that these guys came out and not bash em. These guys are inspiring a new generation so let's celebrate them. I'm looking into getting an SG myself. Been playing a epiphone les paul classic worn black with upgraded pickups DiMarzio super distortion and DiMarzio evolution (neck) always wanted a Gibson but not the SG, now that's the one I dream of!
he’s playing the archer
Lol! My first guitar was a Hondo.
🤟🤟
I love everything about Greta Van Fleet. My favorite band out there today. I'm always scratching my head at people who either bash them for their main influence or they just don't get it. I feel sorry for those people because Greta's music gives me so much joy and inspiration. I wish everyone got that.
@Mucho Macho here here!!!!
They use their influences so much in their original
music that it borders on parody. Everything they do just reeks of unoriginality. They get away with it because theres not much competition out there. With that said, the kid can play for sure.
Who's that guy?
Guitarist of the band Greta Van Fleet
👏🤘👍👍👍👍👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘
I have no doubt that this man will be considered a guitar legend in a few years
He definitely has the chops. Unfortunately for many people he’ll always be in the shadow of Jimmy Page so I don’t think his talents will ever be realized unless he started playing different styles
LMFAOOOOOO SIKE
A guitar legend ? This guy's good but Clapton page srv beck are guitar legends you have to be something extraordinary have a influence on future players make your mark in history to be considered a guitar legend will this guy do that ?
@@benjack8477 fair point. he will always be in the shadow of jimmy page
Couldn’t have been a standard if it had P-90’s
Yes, Gibson since 2012 has made a standard p90
damn why so many dislikes?
Monterey not Leeds
Gibson guitars are legit the best of the best
This young lady seems like a good guitar player.
what lady
So sorry, I thought this was a woman.
That’s my girlfriend!
PLSS!!!
he looks like a REAL Man in opposite of the short/bald/shaved gays
Hipster boi
If it had p90s it was a special not a standard... yea im one of those trolls....but none the less its true
Actually it was a sg classic that shipped with p90s, forget the exact year though
true musician right there !! cant afford pair of socks, tough life, sometimes musician/artist need some struggle experience of life to write a masterpiece i guess.
Only REAL Rock band of nowadays...let's hope many more will follow (not shitty "metal" but ROCK in the vein of boston..journey...zeppelin....toto...rush...saga...frank marino....foreigner...purple...yes...floyd...elp....genesis etc..)
But where's this Gretta chick???🤔😉😄
Not a bad jimmy page interview.
You must be so much better! Please go get sponsored by Gibson and do and interview!
