nothing after Arthas departure from wow, his final battle felt real for me. That was the culmination the ending for my story in wow from my time in it many things in life changed too... I remember enjoying FFXI online in the forests outside Sandy first learning about WOW in chat, FFXI in it's prime was something very special to me also. No games since have left such a mark on me as those days and nights logged in. Thanks for this video Athelarius, I hope your journey in WOW is a blessing to you and yours

It was a character that deserved to be redeemed in Shadowlands, it was so sad to see how the writers simply destroyed any chance of making a comeback. Arthas was just an innocent puppet of the Frostmourne and (later known) the Jailer. His soul could be saved, as the souls of Garrosh, and Kael'thas. I love the Warcraft franchise and lore, but to me, it was a point of no return.
The only confusion is that in Warcraft 3 Kil’jaeden says the Lich King is his creation, that’s why he sends Illidan to destroy him. Aside from that, they really could’ve brought Arthas back and redeemed him. They did it with Illidan in legion, and it’s clear Arthas soul was ripped out by Frostmourne so his actions were not his own
The same thing happened to me: since Shadowlands and seeing how poorly they treated its characters, especially Arthas, I lost interest in the lore and stopped buying their books and reading their stories.
The story and end of Arthas was the culmination of everything WoW (and to some extend, Warcraft in general) stood for. With him, not only a tragic hero and great villain died, but a part of the Soul of Warcraft as well. For me, his story remains as one of the greatest fantasy tales I've experienced.
The least could do for Arthas, the Lich King, the most iconic character of the franchise even after all these years, we remember and still think about him.
This was my childhood.. god damn Reign of Chaos and the Frozen throne were so well written and played. Must be on the most important game, too bad Blizzard butchered it and not saved it like Age of empires 2.

Technically arthas didn’t actually kill Illidan. He defeated him, but it was malfurian, tyranus, and the warden who caused him to lose and be banished. If he died by arthas hand we never would’ve been able to defeat him at the black temple.
Not to mention, Illidan fled to Outland to hide from the Burning Crusade, but Kil'jaeden still found him and thus Illidan had to fuck with the Lich King in TFT anyway (trying to break the whole-ass continent by using the Eye of Sargeras. Wild shit.
If LK "killed" him, by the fact of his corrupted soul he just stops by twisting nether, this on some way protected him from the blade curse and consequently the Jailer.

I never got over the way danuser destroyed the Arthas legacy. His hubris outweighed his talent, significantly.
