    Thanks for giving MFT a look. While I would never tell anyone MFT is as good as full-frame it is nice to have such sophisticated options as the OM1 Mk2, and Lumix G9 Mk2 when you need or want a lighter kit. The 150-400mm OM sent you is probably the best of the best when it comes to MFT wildlife photography (with the possible exception of their 300mm f4). I shot full-frame all my life professionally but, in retirement, enjoy the portability and reach of my G9 and 100-400mm zoom for bird photography as a hobby and an excuse to run that shutter and my legs at the same time. Given enough light MFT is a worthy option. By the way, great music pick for this video. I look forward to your review.

    Nice set up. 1000mm equivalent shouldn’t need to crop much so 20mp might not be an issue for wildlife photography. The build quality is great if that equipment. Video and stills look good with decent separation from foreground and background. Looking forward to your review. That kind of money can get you a pretty capable Nikon, Sony or Canon set up as well. If I’m starting from scratch today I’m putting money into the new Nikon glass. In my opinion Nikon has done a great job on developing a great lens lineup.

    Somehow I missed this video. I've been torn between the a1 w/ 200-600 and the OM-1ii w/150-400. The OM gear is a pound lighter and better balanced, but the a1 files are so sweet to work with compared to the OM-1 files. Of course the new NR software really helps low light exposures, but the A1 files still come out ahead. Also miss the exposure zebras of the A1 when using the OM-1. These days there's really too much in the way of good gear from all of the photo manufacturer's.

    My OM-1 with 300mm pro and 2X extender is sharp and fun to use. I don't use 2X extender all the time. The only con for me is I want 240fps video, so I use a different camera for that. The OMD camera system still does not have a way to save custom video settings to the PASM dial. OM-1 does sharp video with great IBIS, just does not have custom video save as other cameras do.

    My 150-400TC is pretty much welded to my OM1 these days. I can’t claim that the sensor is the greatest in low light but DXO helps a lot. I wouldn’t enter one of my 51,200 ISO shots in a competition (but then I don’t ever enter competitions) but they were fine for dark forest bird IDs. I cannot imagine having managed to capture my recent shots of the critically entered Swift Parrots with any other system - 50fps, 1/8000 sec and perfect focus! I used to shoot Nikon D750 plus Sigma Sport 150-600 but originally changed because of my shakes and Olympus IBIS. I would still go to full frame for some purposes but for birds and macro OM suits me.

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  Месяц назад

      So the mirrorless Nikon cameras plus lenses to me has the best IS out there currently. But the OM system IS is very good. And yes you need to process with DXO with the OM-1 MKII for sure. The 4x loss of light is evident when you look at the raw unprocessed image.

    Nice review :) Your photography always looks great :) I've been very interested in the OM system. I'm totally used to 1280mm equivalent reach, so this combo would feel short to me. Thinking more about the 150-600.... although everyone keeps saying it a glorified, over priced Sigma :) lol My mind will probably change as soon as I can get ahold of the 200-800. I've already rented it, and I believe it to be the Holy Grail of 'small' bird photography, which is mostly what I do. But between the 'unavailability' of that lens, and no word yet on an R7 Mk II, I'm getting kind of tired of waiting on Canon. Thinking about renting the OM system to give it a run. Even besides this video, I've seen a lot of really nice, sharp stuff from it.

    Very nice camera this is the sort of spec I wished my R7 had with it's stacked sensor and superb features. At one point I was thinking of moving over to the OM-1. What killed it for me is the lens options. That is one expensive lens. The 300mm f4 is the next best. I'm not so keen on the new OM full frame sigma cloned 150-600mm zoom. The R7 has a bit more MP and same sort of pixel density so equivalent reach advantage to a M4/3. I have the benefit of my 300mmF2.8LIS with a 1.4xIII its 420mm F4 which is better for me than that expensive OM zoom. 300mm with a 2xIII I have 600mm F5.6. It's a sharp prime lens. I've had these lenses a while but you can pick them up at decent prices. Would be nice if I could adapt the OM1-II and get native focus speeds with my Canon lenses as I doubt Canon is ever going to treat apsc pro like it did in the 7DII days. I think my next camera move it the Nikon Z8 and just as you do adapt old Canon lenses with the fringer. Till I get me some nice Nikon pf lenses.

    The OM-1 MK II has very impressive range. I like that TC on the lens. The image quality looks good, but somehow oversharpened compared to your FF images. I also noted that the AF wandered occasionally during video. How's the stabilization? And is 4K/60 the slowest it goes? How about HD/120? Thanks.

    • @WILDALASKA

      So the 120 option is in 1080p like the canon r6MKII, r8, and R7. I wanted to record in 4k to get the best quality, but I did miss the ability to really slow down the action. And yes the AF in video is challenging at times.

      I always try to get in as close as I can to get more pixels on subject and not have to crop, just recompose if needed. plus getting in closer helps that DoF. But looking at cropping for social media purposes mainly looked ok.

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  Месяц назад

      oh these birds are not tame here in Alaska. It just takes a lot of time and work to get in close. Lot of times you have to guess what way they are moving and set up there and hope you're right and they cross your line. LOT is stalking involved to get in tight. A lot of times if I see I can't get in tight, I don't even bother.

  • @JoeMaranophotography
    @JoeMaranophotography Месяц назад

    In my view you only really lose out in low light as the extra depth of field is an advantage. So often entire subjects are almost out of focus because people shoot FF wide open which is a mistake. With M43 you can shoot wide open with no real negatives unless of course a shallow depth of field is your intention. Ive been using a loaner G9ii for about a month and the ISO performance is almost on par with APSC and in a lot of cases even better and even better DR!

    • @WILDALASKA
      @WILDALASKA  Месяц назад

      Photography is art and it's what you like for your art basically. Me? I like narrow DoF and nice bokeh. So when using crop cameras I have to do more than with full frame to achieve that or I use the crop when larger DoF is needed and maybe enlarging in frame.

    I use an OM-1 mk2 for macro photography. It is the KING of macro photography! It is so good at macro that I keep the camera / lens / teleconverter for that genre alone. But for birds? In forests or low light, it's not a great camera. The bird-detect AF does not work well in shade / dense forest. And the sensor produces a TON of color noise in lower light. So, for me, it's Canon for birds, OM System for macro. Each camera for its own purpose.

    我是之前使用OM-1+150-400 pro Tc.125的用戶,OM-1最大的問題是錄影,也就是視頻,只要你用長焦段錄影,無法對焦,抓不到標的,更不用說追焦了,已經與日本OM公司與總代理溝通過太多次了,最後只好跳家到NIKON Z8,我只有後悔太晚跳家,真心話,Z8真的是拍照與錄影完美組合,朋友們可以借來試用就知道。OM-1拍照還可以,但可以更進化,但錄影真的問題很大,我不知道OM-1二代改善了沒,但就我知道的OM-1二代的改善部分,真的沒有提到錄影,錄影對焦與追焦,真的是OM的弱項,尤其是長焦段錄影,只能深深祝福。
