  • Yeah, I know, you’ve already cold started it. Yup, I did it again. This time it was COLDER. I wanted to run around in the snow with it anyways.

I had one just like that. It’s been 10 years and I still miss it. I have a 1950 with the GM diesel but the 1850 is a great tractor.

Started pretty good! The dipstick on the HydroPower should say Mercon/Dexron I think. Dexron III should be the current replacement for that. Don't use Dex4 or above. Type F will probably work but it might make it a little grabby - it has friction modifiers. But either way stick with whatever you've been using if you've been using it for a while. Thanks for the ride along!

burningdinosaurs Coming back, I agree with it being more grabby, dipstick called for ATF Type A, oops. Still works though. The seals in it are going bad though, so I’ll have to replace that at some point.

Yikes, that’s quite a bit of vibration and smoke. Mind you, I haven’t been on one since 1975 and I was just 8 yrs old. Dad bought it new in 1965 and used it hard for 10 yrs. The 1750 had an easier life and had bought it used in 1970 and kept it to his retirement in 1986. It was a highly reliable tractor.

Don Richter She’s a rough machine. The engine is due for a rebuild.

I’m curious if parts are easier to get for the Perkins over a Waukesha....
Our 1850 held up reasonably well considering it was used hard. Dad added a torque topper, propane injection. Really only used when pulling hard, instantly added 50-100 rpm. Kinda used like nitrous in cars. The bad part was the propane burned the valves out.

Don Richter I believe parts are slightly easier to find with the Perkins. Wow, that’s hard running.
