Matsumoto-san will show the entire video he took of the tsunami when you visit his hotel. He kindly allowed me to use a part of it at the end of this video. To see the rest, consider visiting!
I wasn't paid to make this video. I just really like the ryokan, and Matsumoto-san kindly let me stay one night for free in order to do the filming. (I usually stay here while I'm working, so I hadn't been able to film before.)
I think I prefer the misty view more. Unfortunately, I am unable to travel right now. The only place I can go is into my Minecraft world, but this video has given me some great ideas for that. 😄
Minecraft worlds also can be great! Some good memories there!
Impresionante 😊
😍such a gorgeous place to stay! I absolutely love the trees along that coastline - you mentioned how the food was art (that dessert looked really delicious and presented so beautifully I have to say) but those trees are art too. I remember seeing footage of the tsunami's effects along that coastline and it was so devastating to see, so it makes me so happy to see how things have recovered and how people have built new lives like Matsumoto-san has done.
That bath in your room!! I could spend hours in there enjoying the view! That alone would be worth the price of the room!
Definitely! So many ways in which it's worth it! Views, walks, baths, food, people, etc!
Thank you for sharing information about this beautiful hotel! Ah, those meals! But the memory of the tsunami - still harrowing to contemplate. What courage and commitment it takes to rebuild after such devastation.
Definitely! The people of the Sanriku Coast are so resilient.
4:19 holy crap
When i can afford more than a business hotel then i know where to go! Amazing location and seems like a superb ryokan!
May be I have a tip for you the Ryokan Machiya Inn in Omihachiman. There you're able to bath in an old sake barrel. The ryokan is an old sake brewery that's the reason for the distinct bath. It's quite traditional and 2017 about 11 000 yen so a bit more expensive than a business hotel but the experience is worth it. By the way there is a ramen shop on the right side of the Oklahoman train station that has live changing tonkotsu ramen with kimchi as topping that cuts through the deep pork broth flavour perfectly.
You don't need to go to ichiban ramen the local shops blow you away especially this one.
Yeah, it's not a budget place, that's for sure!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it!!
Great Video, definitely a Beautiful Ryokan and Area.
Thanks for watching and glad you liked it!
Another amazing spot, thanks !
Love love love it!
Thanks for sharing this amazing place! I will definitly checki it out, when planning my trip to northen Japan. Cheers!
Great! you won't be disappointed!
Thank you for your selfless sacrifice in testing this ryokan for us, so we can be jealous from the comfort of our overseas homes without having to endure all that Japanese top-notch hospitality 🤣.
Ahahaha thanks for watching.
Such a nice ryokan with amazing views!
It really is!
Oh the coast really is gorgous. I am sorry for the poor man having to watch everything he owns destroyed, as so many. It is touching how he speaks his warnings, I hope he didn't lose to many /any loved ones :( it's so long ago now but it still feels like yesterday somehow, seeing it on the news. Now they spoke of another big earthquake =/ ....meanwhile i've been to fukushima-ken and it was so wonderful. The people there were so very very lovely :o (I mean...even by japanese standards! Which says a lot) very welcoming and super approachable....hach...Anyhow, I'm drifting off..I'm not sure if that ryokan isn't far beyond my budget I'm afraid but it is still lovely ^^ thank you for taking us along
NICE ONE. THANKS TO SHARING THIS BEAUTIFUL RYOKAN AND PLACE.
Thanks for watching!
The beauty of this place is absolutely stunning! I know it must be amazing on a sunny day but, as far as I'm concerned, drinking coffee on that massage chair while gazing out onto the mistbound coast seems equally heavenly. You're so lucky! I'm going to travel there as soon as I get the chance.
Highly recommended!
Great video, l just bumped into your video with TAKASHI how you moved from America to Tokyo-Japan and to rural Japan
I'm South African secondary teacher by profession interested working in Japan. For now l'm interested working at kindergarten with small kids Can you please help me to connect with the right school. I'm currently unemployed 12:03
Indeed, you would find me most likely most of the time in the chair. :)
Same!
Every bit of this place looks absolutely amazing. Even after a disaster still so much beauty remains.
Agreed!
What a great video and gorgeous location! Thank you! I'm slowly gathering ideas for my husband and I's 7 year anniversary in the fall of 2025. We're hoping to visit again then. We went to Tokyo for our honeymoon in 2018 and it was absolutely amazing. I haven't stopped thinking about Japan since. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your videos!
So glad you liked it!! Thanks for watching!
I often used to wonder what this ryokan was like inside but out of my budget, given I'm someone who travels around Japan sleeping in the back of my mini van that gives you an idea of my budget. Anyway -- fantastic video and glad you highlighted this coastline. Taro is incredibly special to me, I worked at the elementary and junior high school here, and it was a quite profound time, it was after the earthquake and tsunami that essentially destroyed the town, and the schools showed many mementoes and memories of the tragedy. I sometimes watched school plays of the kids recounting their memories of the day itself....and I often used to come up to the Sanouiwa after work and sit watching the ocean contemplating....I miss it dearly now I am down in Mie; but it's a special place to me. In fact Taro directly inspired my manga, Future Saviors. But that's another story. Thanks as always for your wonderful videos, I really enjoy seeing Iwate and Touhoku stuff now I am some distance away :)
Oh you lived right there! It was definitely intense there right after the tsunami. I remember visiting Taro about 2 weeks after the tsunami when it was still solid rubble in every direction...
@@GoNorthJapan Yeah, I was thankfully not there during the tsunami, I'm not sure how I would live life having had that occur in my life, which is why I stand in awe and respect for every survivor. Even though my time in Taro came 8 years on from the tsunami, I will never ever stop being grateful for my time there.
Oh I was curious about that ryokan when i was flying my drone around. Such a magic area. Looks even better with that unkai action going on over the ocean lucky!
Yeah, that section of the coast is so dreamy!
straight onto the bucket-list section of my Google Maps pins! That sea mist really was something else...
Yeah- since it's right on the MCT Trail you can hike from there north or south for more stunning views!
The mist made the coast look even better I thought. If I ever do the onsen thing, I would definitely want a private one in my room like you had. I'm just too shy 🤭
Yeah, I think a lot of people visiting Japan prefer the private ones, though they are usually only available at more expensive places.
霧の海岸の景色に感嘆しました❗
松本さんの復興への取り組みは素晴らしいと思います。
Quinlanさんの動画、ほんと好き✨👍
見てくれてありがとう!
その海岸本当に美しいね!
We’ve been looking for a ryokan to splurge on in October. I think we found our one! Thanks for sharing
Great! I'm sure you'll love it!!
4:34: 😳
Such a beautiful coast!
