This is one of my favorite dish when I worked in Japan! Didn't know the name coz it just comes in the company bento but it's always a treat when this is served.
My mom is based in Japan and she always makes Japanese Style Mapo Tofu on a monthly basis whenever she's staying here in the Philippines. I love it so much! 🤤🤤🤤
@@HiroFoodinJapan But even when I’m working now, I still hate Sundays. 😂 Love all your cooking skills and recipes btw. Keep it up! Hope you get more subscribers! 😊❤️
Ever since we’ve ordered this dish in our favorite Japanese restaurant, it instantly became one of our favorite dish! Thank you for sharing your recipe! ☺️ I’ve been wanting to cook this dish hehe
I make the Chinese version with Sichuan peppercorns and instead of rice, I use boiled ramen. The mapo tofu becomes the ramen sauce. It's delicious. I've to try your version.
Love mapo tofu. We make them at home but I guess it’s the Chinese version coz we use hoisin and chili garlic paste in place of sweet soybean and doubanjiang, respectively. And use a slightly softer tofu. Ironically, we use Japanese tofu lol. Thank you for your version again. You make it look so easy but in my mind it takes a lot of effort haha
@@HiroFoodinJapan I cheat and use the chili garlic oil for more spice. And if you can get your hands on this - the XO sauce. Elevates dishes to another level. Can be used on asstd dishes that tend to be saucy and people will keep guessing and wondering what you added.
I tried this when my friend invited me to a Chinese restaurant. I can't get it out of my mind after that. My first time eating a very smooth tofu. The usual tofu I eat is the cheap ones with rough texture after you cook it, I thought all tofu was the same.
I like tofu. I know of some people who are not too fond of it. I guess for them its either a textural thing or just that its kind of bland. Nevertheless I think tofu is very versatile. Glad to learn this recipe so I can add this to my repertoire. 🍛👌🙂
I always use leftover mapo tofu as a topping for egg noodles It tastes so good I always have it as a hangover food. edit: I also tried it with pasta it's good on it's own category 😂
I think the hardest ingredients for me to find are those bean pastes. I've always wanted to try this but I can't find any substitute. Even miso paste isn't available here.
I love mapo tofu, specially if i add a lot of chili garlic and its really spicy! But unfortunately my body does not agree with me anymore and my uric acid goes up so i just take a bite and then move on..... pity i miss eating this!
@@HiroFoodinJapan well theres a lot of stuff i cant eat anymore. I just get a spoonful to taste so not to deprive myself but its an adjustment! And also i always enjoy your blogs!

Wow, I’ll have to make that! Looks so appetizing you could really eat a lot of rice!
Thank you! Yes we consume a lot of rice with this dish 😊

Wahh it looks good! What can I substitute sweet soybean paste and sake with? I really want to make this .
Thank you! You can skip sake. And you you can use miso as a substitute for sweet soybean paste👍
うまそう
ありがとうございます!
I've listed down the ingredients, will definitely try this soon.
Thank you! Hope you will like it 😊
To be honest any tofu dish I'm in.
Next time you can just say to your wife, "I know you want rice!" hahaha.
I'll have to make this soon, but with a lot less chili.
Hahaha 🤣 You’re right 😁

Hiro, may I know what pans are you using? I want to buy that too. 😊
The one I used in this video is vitacraft and the one I use in other videos is T-fal 👍
Thanks for sharing this recipe. Just one question, is it ok to use sesame oil instead of chili oil?
Yes! It’s okay 👍 I sometimes use sesame oil too.

I didn’t like tofu because as you said it’s bland but as I get older I started to like it. I think my food preference has changed 😃
I encounter the Mapo tofu name in Cooking master boy anime.
your wife didn't iron her shirt hahahaha
She definitely didn’t! 🤣
i'll be attempting this today! i'm curious- what is the difference between a japanese-style mapo tofu and a chinese mapo tofu?

Do you have a restaurant in japan? If no, You should open one.
No 😂 Thank you for the compliment 🙌

How do we get/buy the cup and shirt with Oishi?

Hiro-san, can I ask why ginger is always in the japanese dishes?? And はい and いる are the same? Hehe 😅😅
I’m not sure but I like ginger so I use it a lot 😊 About the second question, they are not the same. I’m curious. What made you have that question?
@@HiroFoodinJapan you always ask your wife if she wants rice and I heard she said いる,, and at the subtitle it's "yes".
