regarding what you talked about religion, i honestly think people need to learn to be respectful. i've been an atheist my whole life but that doesnt stop me from looking up to a bunch of people with different beliefs. my dad is jewish and my mom is catholic, and although there are things we disagree on, it doesnt stop me from respecting them and loving them. i've followed you for about 7 years and tbh i think its beautiful how you've always talked about God. keep doing you Dani, you are a huge inspiration. love you so much. btw for merch ideas that you asked yesterday on your ig story i suggested "neediest" or "needier than greedier" or something like that hahah love u❤️❤️

As an atheist myself, I completely agree with you. I've always taken issue with militant atheism a la Richard Dawkins which essentially condemns the existence all religions and religious people by association. Although I don't believe in God, or any other spirit or deity, I can still see the value of faith and religion for others; I can, in fact, even find wisdom of a sort in the Bible, though I look at it more as I would Plato or Aristotle: as interesting but imperfect ideas that may or may not be helpful to me.

I’m an atheist too, and my family all believe in god. I definitely believe that it is wrong to treat people negatively based on their beliefs. I also think that a lot of discrimination in the world today stems from religion. This cannot be denied. The difference between extreme religious people and ‘extreme’ atheists is that the former condone discrimination against certain members of society, interfering with personal freedom. Although certain atheists may come across aggressive or pushy, I’m yet to see them suggest that someone deserves to burn for simply holding a different view. Many atheists come from staunchly religious backgrounds and some have been disowned or treated badly due to their lack of belief. Such behaviour is justified via religious doctrine. This should be taken into account when we encounter any perceived “militant atheism”. Many, including myself, have been manipulated and controlled through the medium of religion. In regard to Dawkins, his manner of speaking may not appeal to everyone, but he is an esteemed champion of free speech and secularism. I think dialogue between people of differing views is very important. I would never tell someone that they are bad for believing in god, but I would say it is bad to believe that anyone deserves less rights for being homosexual or for being a woman. I’m sure many religious people would agree with me there. Ones personal opinion is, of course, down to them. I sincerely hope Dani finds contentment in whatever she comes to believe in!

alright exactly!! You’re the atheist speaking sense here lol. Facilitating other people’s belief in some man-made fictional entity is not helpful or smart.

As an anthropology student, religion came with idea of the “state”, meaning when government or leadership became a way to control societies, the school of religion came to be. So, technically, God never intended us to be religious, but just to follow the Bible and believe in him. Many teachings of modern church’s are very off base. The word homosexual wasn’t even added into the Bible until the most recent 100 years- the original context closest to the Hebrew original contexts describe it isn’t okay for a man to sleep with a little boy or be a pedophile, rather than being gay 😀

When it comes to religion I think it’s easier to find happiness being on your own journey and not putting yourself in a box when you have a knowledge of other religions and their beliefs. And with that comes a respect. Like you know that not one single religion is the only right or correct religion you understand that every culture takes their own journey and approach to worship. With all that it just makes life easy to have a nice respect for others beliefs and to just worry about your own. Hopefully that makes sense. You are definitely coming into your own and you will continue to over the next few years as you get into your mid twenties.

runner123 No loving God would make love “sinful” and doom his own creations to an eternity of torture lol. It’s insane that people let a book that has been edited and rewritten by extremely corrupt people of power over the course of thousands of years dictate their ENTIRE life and belief system. Love is love, there is NOTHING wrong about pure true love. God IS love, God is INCAPABLE of hate. Only humans can hate. God isn’t a human! YOU’RE the one who is hating and you’re trying to humanize God because your mind isn’t open enough to understand UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Which is the absence of hate and judgment, it’s just pure and that is the only type of love God is capable of! God couldn’t love us while HATING who we literally ARE and our LOVE especially when he CREATED us, that is absolutely nonsensical and contradictory and impossible. We were created through love TO love, and you can’t control who you love, love just IS and love is everything. THERES NOTHING SINFUL OR WRONG ABOUT LOVE. THERES NOTHING HATEFUL ABOUT GOD. You just fear what you don’t understand because you can’t see or think outside the box that you’ve trapped yourself in because of your close minded, skewed, corrupted, hateful beliefs. Open your eyes and your heart and choose love over hate. Once again to reiterate because I can’t stress it enough; Love is love, theres never anything wrong with love, love is the purest thing in the universe and the only thing that truly matters, God is love, God is incapable of hate, only humans can hate, and you are simply a hateful close minded human who has been brainwashed by religion.

Annie Williams idk what God you’re referring to, but it’s not my God, Elohim of the Bible. You can keep lying to yourself to justify your sin and lukewarm Christianity, but just know you’re being deceived by this world and its ruler. I never said anything about God hating us, I clearly expressed he hates sin, which is an extension of our free will. Yes, God crested us in His image, but sinful spirits and lusts of the heart/flesh do not come from God. We are to be born again, to be cleansed/repentant and forgiven of our sinful past so that we can strive to walk righteously and justly with Christ. This New Age Christianity that blatantly overrides scripture is what will be the downfall of many Christians; seek the narrow gate because broad is the way to destruction. I said what I said. I have no hate for anyone in my heart, it is my hope that everyone comes to repentance and new life in Christ. But you can’t continue to willingly live in sin just because your feelings give you permission to, if you’re really walking with Christ. I’ll pray for you and for all other Christians that the veil be lifted from your eyes and mind so you can see the truth of this fallen world as we get nearer and nearer to the end.

As a former Athiest, now Christian, I often have this exact same mindset. I'm so lucky that I go to a church where everyone is so accepting and they make me feel like I am a follower of Christ. But ultimately, the only opinion that should matter is Gods, and as Jesus said many times throughout the Bible, the only way to get into heaven is to believe in me and my sacrifice for mankind. Anytime I go through a doubting phase I watch The Case for Christ. Its such a powerful movie that always brings me perspective. I went through my atheist time when I was 17 up until I was 23. I think its important to question God and your faith in him as when you go down the rabbit hole to answer those questions, it will either steer you closer to him or farther away.

It’s so wild to me that’s she’s literally sitting here laying her heart out saying she feels judged by the church and other christians and there are STILL “Christian” people here in the comments judging her. For God’s sake, take your own advice and learn to LOVE people without all the “buts”. Comfort people. Embrace people. This is not the time to say “you obviously haven’t read the bible” or “God wouldn’t like that”. It’s NOT your place to ridicule and judge. Take some pointers from Jesus and be a decent human being. I will never understand how the group of people who I’ve felt the MOST judged by are the ones who say they try to mirror Jesus’s views. It seems nothing grinds religious peoples gears more than saying “I accept and love everyone and I have a relationship with God too.” They hear that and HAVE to insert themselves, discrediting your relationship with God. That might be a good thing some times. Keep nurturing your relationship with God and you will know for sure when he is speaking to you through others. Dani, you are SO brave and courageous for openly sharing your journey. I've followed you sporadically since the early Cimorelli days and always related with you because - among many other reasons - I also grew up in a Christian homeschool environment. This particular video resonates with me on a deep level because around the age of 20 is when I also started questioning my faith for many of the same points you mentioned. There's too much to say in one comment about a subject matter that is infinite, but after years of researching world religion, science, history, theology, philosophy, etc. and a lot of personal soul searching, I have come to identify closest with humanist beliefs, while still remaining spiritually open and most importantly, believing in love above all. Some resources which personally helped me and are generally informative and interesting to listen to are two podcasts: Born Again Again and Life After God. With all that to say, people will always chastise someone like you for speaking transparently about what you're going through, but it is completely normal and in fact, SO healthy to question your beliefs and potential bias. Never feel guilty or ashamed for pursuing self-discovery and growth. At the end of the video, you said that you hope we appreciate you sharing. I do, deeply. So thank you for that. Thank you so much for being open and vulnerable! I am 26 now but when I was your age I was in a similar position. I grew up in a Catholic environment (Catholic school and all) and throughout all of my adolescent years I was a devout believer. Then I started doubting certain aspects of religion (social issues) and moved away from the strict Catholic faith I was brought up in. I am now an atheist/agnostic because to me there is no proof anymore that a good and almighty God exists given the state the world is in and all the senseless suffering of innocent people an animals. But I think as long as you're trying to be a good person it doesn't matter what you call yourself - just find what you're most comfortable with. It's a constant learning process :) i really appreciate your honesty and enjoy your and Emmyns videos. You've both evolved so much and are really growing into your own.

Ps. My pastor reminded me today that God never rejects us, because I was always very vulnerable to rejection from a young age due to how I grew up. she texted me when I shared how I felt about something. People sometimes rejects us but God does not. It's so beautiful to be reminded of and important for our self-esteem. Also because it is a feeling that can grow really strong even when someone didn't mean to reject us or when they do but they are wrong for it. It's so good to realize there is One that we are safe with and that loves us always.

Starting in my mid to late teens, I definitely began questioning everything and just really started thinking for myself with thoughts like "Am I doing just for other people in my life and not myself? Do I benefit from this personally? Am I doing this for the sake of just being involved in religion and for a being that might not even exist?" Now, I am more than comfortable with being agnostic and I am more than comfortable not being involved with religion in any way, but I do believe that people have the ability to make their faith something worth investing into their lives that involve beautiful things: love, compassion, humility, selflessness. About the religion topic, there is a journey everyone is on and some will arrive to different places and God allows it to happen because He gave us free will. This reminds me of the story of the prodigal son where everyone focuses on the return of the Son back to his father, but there was a beginning where the father had to let his son go so that he could experience and learn the realities of life and what brings life and what brings death, what is priceless, what is worthless. We are all on a journey of discovering these things. Your honesty is important because this means you don't just want to play a game. I have had several moments in my life where I had to separate God from religion and read the Bible for myself. Night and day difference! The thought that comes to my mind when I just pour my heart to God and just read the Bible is "This is such a relief, I should have done this a long time ago".

Neither God not Jesus wrote the bible so I find it funny how people take it so seriously. I’m Catholic and have been my whole life but I’m on your end where despite what the bible hints at I support gay marriage and pro choice etc. I took a lot of classes in college about the history that was happening during the time of bible stories and how that affected their story telling and how it was word of mouth for a really long time. Basically it’s silly to take it word for word seriously when it was passed on for years by memory and quiet possibly changed a little every time someone told it and not to mention translations. I have a book that puts each gospel story of Jesus side by side and shows how each gospel writer focused on something different or tweaked the story to follow their narrative. I got scared at first when I was learning all this that it would make religion feel less real but instead it made me feel ok to make mistakes like the bible’s not perfect and neither are we. Feel free to dm me and I can send you some resources I used throughout my classes.

Yeah, the Bible has been edited many times by corrupt people of power throughout history to fit their skewed narrative. I believe you can find bits of wisdom and truth in all religions but I don’t believe any one religion is “the one and only way” and pure 100% truth. Therefore I don’t believe Jesus himself is the one and only way either. People say Jesus is God but I believe we are all God, we are all connected and came from the same Source and I strongly believe Jesus knew that, I don’t believe he was trying to say “look at me I’m God you should worship me and only me”, rather he was trying to teach that we are all a part of God and we all have the power that he did. But unfortunately of course we still have corrupt people in power who just want to control us and keep us unaware of the truth, but many people are starting to wake up to the truth and realize how fucked up the system is.
