    The percentages sound good from the perimeter, but we can't use just percentages to measure how good a team, better yet a player's play style is. Chill is right on this 1. And what he saying is you shouldn't have to as a player, settle for the long ball immediately, just because you have the capability to be a long ball shot maker. It's about balance, and some games you'll have to be more dominant around the basket, and some games your dominance will be away from the basket. When you have balance as a player, it keeps the defense honest. Therefore they have to account for something.

    • @mytruthismoreuseful
      @mytruthismoreuseful Год назад

      nah he isn't right only the alltime great post up players should be on the block when say alltime great that means your team is a contender and ur putting up atleast 20-25 points on 55% if your gonna take zero 3s -but that is hard to find theres plenty of tall players but for post ups to be effective in todays game where perimeter players are more valuable to teams and help defenses makes it hard for post players to dribble too many times you need to either be tall powerful AND durable to dominate in the post or you have to be balanced post up when you have a weaker defender and spread the floor if theres a tough defender in the paint

    • @OnlyFloor
      @OnlyFloor Год назад +4

      @@mytruthismoreuseful nah he's right. We're not talking about all time greats, we're talking about play styles of the current players. Joel & AD are players that have stronger capabilities to make shots from the perimeter. Joel is more of an inside presence, while AD is more of PnR/transition player. KAT, even though he can space the floor & score, if you take away his ability to shoot, what can he do, how is he gonna impact the game? Giannis isn't as strongly capable of being a 3PT shooter, he can just make a 3 pointer. Just cuz you can make a 3 doesn't mean you shoot more of them, and with Giannis he doesn't settle. Watch the podcast and maybe you can have a valid point.

      @@OnlyFloor dude Giannis embid and AD are all time great athletes Joel embid is a bully in the post and he has great body control and soft touch at the rim and AD has a ridiculous vert great body control and soft touch at the rim those qualities are only found in generational talents so NO the avhg big men shouldn't be on the block If they don't have those qualities if you just an avg post up player as a big man and you can't stretch the floor you are use useless in todays game

    • @OnlyFloor
      @OnlyFloor Год назад

      @@mytruthismoreuseful dude what does that have to do with anything? Embiid isn't just a post player, he's very effective away from the basket. KAT is also effective away from the basket, but he doesn't have the interior presence to dominate on the inside. Giannis's game is measured by inside dominance ONLY. Occasionally he'll shoot a jump shot but there's a reason why we don't label him a capable shooter. Joel has the outside & inside game, and so does AD. You work inside out, you don't just settle for jumpshots. How tf Giannis is still in the league if he can't shoot? Everyone play style is different and that's something you're failing to realize.

      I truly think that saying guards don’t know how to relieved entry passes is pretty much just an overreaction. You can’t talk about how much players move away from the paint and start the offense on the high post, and then in the same breath there’s not enough low post entry passes and blame it on the player’s fundamentals. These are players who are able to hit moving targets through teeth of running defenses at times, it’s more less opportunity vs less skills

    A dominant low post presence is always a great thing in basketball. U need someone u can dump the ball into and make 2 moves and score. Then the defense sucks in and shooters get better looks. The game doesn't work the same if ur big is perimeter focused. The guards and wings can swipe at the ball, hedge, and if u do shoot, the defender is usually long enough and quick enough to get a hand up. It's easier to defend. Look at how easy it was for the Lakers to beat the grizzlies and GS. AD is a great defender and has a low post game. JJJ is okay and Draymond doesn't at all. Jokic has a great low post and no matter what a defender can do, just harder to guard. Now he shoots the 3 ball well and boom championship!!! Stop listening to these non basketball players about analytics and find u a coach that knows the game.

    Chilltown's wrong on this one, midranges aren't anymore likely to draw fouls (just look at guys like CP3 and Kyrie vs Steph) and if you're a threat from further distances that gets the others more space.
    Also, what 3pt shooting does to diminish individual rebounding is made up for and then some on a team level, because longer shots = longer rebounds, giving the offense a greater chance at recovering a possession.

    Embiid has 27 GAMES shooting 33% or less from three in the playoffs. That’s 57% of the games he played. Compare that to only 7 GAMES of him shooting 50% or higher in the playoffs. That’s only 15% of the games played. The issue of him shooting more threes isn’t during the regular season, it’s in the playoffs, when you not shooting as many uncontested threes.
    Bigs will ALWAYS be more effective closer to the rim. Its more effective to maybe shoot 1 or 2 a game, than 4-5 and more than likely only make 1. In the playoffs when points are a premium, you can’t afford for your best player to throw away 4-6 points a game possibly just for the sake of shooting threes. To put things in perspective, Giannis is the most dominant player in the league and he’s TERRIBLE shooting jumpers and the Bucks have no issue with floor spacing. They won a championship with Giannis dominating at the rim, dominating rebounding and just enough shooting. The Warriors are an anomaly because they have 2 of the best shooters of all time on their team. So they can afford to shoot a bunch of threes and not worry about post presence.

    • @Johenz
      @Johenz Год назад

      The bucks don’t have problems with spacing cause they have a lot of 3 and d players. Brooke Lopez shoots the 3s too. 76ers don’t have a very space line up. Prior to harden coming you had thybul and Ben Simmons on the court together…… now you have harden and Tobias who can shoot so there’s more spacing and embiid takes less 3s a game

    • @josephhandy8767
      @josephhandy8767 Год назад

      @@Johenz I would accept that, but Embiid avg more threes earlier in his career than now. So spacing has never mattered for him shooting threes. He’s shoots them more efficiently now at a slightly lower clip with better spacing, so I don’t believe spacing has anything to do with Embiid shooting threes. He just wants to shoot them. No different than Giannis. He’s played the same way his whole career even before Brook got to the Bucks. Now Brook helps give more spacing, but Giannis has been with the Bucks since 2013 and Brook didn’t get there til 2018.
      Big men have never needed to shoot jumpers to be dominant and they dont now. They choose to shoot them which in totality let’s the defense off the hook more often than not

      @@josephhandy8767 spacing was a key factor, remember early in Embiid’s career he played with Ben Simmons so he had to stay out the paint for Simmons to drive to the basket. Early on 76ers floor spacing was terrible.
      Giannis can’t shoot so he doesn’t take it but he tries to. Big or no big the ability to shoot threes does help the team out. On pick and roles sometimes the defender sags alot leaving the pick and pop a better option. Shooting it well makes the defender to play up and having a more efficient pick and roll. Embiid isn’t shooting wild 3s like steph curry but the ability does put pressure on defenders. He uses the pump from the 3 to drive to the basket. Giannis is a great player but in tough game situations bucks go to khris because of giannis inability to shoot.

    • @josephhandy8767
      @josephhandy8767 Год назад

      @@Johenz yeah shooting threes efficiently helps out the team. But I’m saying, when the playoffs come and the game slows down, there aren’t many good threes for Embiid to take. Subsequently, that’s why he has so many sub 40% three point shooting games than anything else in the playoffs. Threes only space the floor when you have knock down shooters who shoots them at a high volume. That’s why if you look at Boston and GS last season, they were both top 5 in three pointers made and three point percentage. Having multiple guards who consistently can knock them down off of dribble penetration is the key. Embiid can have the same effect as dribble penetration by posting on the block and kicking it back out.
      I have no problem with Embiid taking 1-2 threes a game if they are good shots. Embiid being a center, most aren’t coming out to play him at the 3 pt line anyway. That’s why I said spacing doesn’t matter for Embiid. That’s why I think him and Giannis are similar in the way bigs play them. No one is pressing up on Embiid forcing him to drive. If he wants to shoot 10 threes, they are happy to let him. Also just to put it in perspective, the Nets have Simmons now playing with Claxton who doesn’t shoot jumpers at all and Simmons can still get to the paint. AD with the Lakers was able to play with Dwight and McGee and none of them shot threes. I just think Embiid can be dominant when he wants to and to do that, he can’t be out there jacking up threes lol

      @@josephhandy8767 I don’t think you watch these games but going off of assumptions, a lot of bigs guard Embiid at the 3 point line because he can knock it down. And spacing does matter for embiid because teams play a box and 1 against him, he’s double pre post up which makes it harder to go to work. This isn’t the early 2000s where they just let post players go one on one. The Giannis point giannis does not post up as much either because he gets double often and a lot of Giannis points are not iso but within the flow of the game because his athleticism, a lot of offensive rebounds, lots of pick and rolls and lot of fast breaks, most of of Giannis points are like that.
      Once again you’re not watching the games and based off of assumptions ben Simmons only takes 6 shots a game and it’s mostly in transition, the nets have one of the worse offense in the game with poor spacing because of Simmons and claxton, they have one of the least lay up attempts. Their offense is being carried by kd and kyrie being great iso players and great shot makers. That goes back to my point on the 76ers Ben had the ball a lot so embiid had to leave the paint so Ben can drive. Joel didn’t come into the league as a shooter he developed his game to play with Ben Simmons and to avoid the double team. You ever wonder why dominate post up bigs don’t work in the nba anymore? Because teams not going to just let you post up 20 times, guards are faster, quicker and swiping at the ball. Teams rotate faster for kick outs.
      Your point with gs and Boston and bucks goes to my point the 76ers roster isn’t build like that. That’s why they got pj a three and d guy. If you don’t have sharp shooting wings your big gonna be double team and you’re kicking out to thybul for a open contested 3….. say if embiid was on the suns then yeah he wouldn’t need to space the floor because teams not gonna leave bridges, booker, cam Johnson open. That’s why 76ers best year was when they had Seth curry and other shooters. Ben was still on the floor but he’d move around a lot. I’m the playoffs embiid was just in the paint going to work because he was played one on one. Now he touches the ball and multiple guys come at him. Not even just embiid you see it with jokic and ad that why most centers catch the ball at the freethrow line or higher. A bug who can’t shoot won’t last in today’s game.

    Fluent, you have to also bring in the logic of how many times are you getting fouled on Mid range. 15% on 2 pts, but there are more variety of 2 pts shot versus 3 pts. Players like Wiggins and Bryant were getting flamed because the mid range is the worst shot to take. Less fouling on the shot and also the difficulty is similar to the 3. Isn’t this the reason why the nba evolved to shooting the 3 instead of the mid range. Also Chilltwn needs coaching. He’s points could easily get dissected 😂
