When I was in college I would work on the weekends in Chatham. I would just drive through some of the neighborhoods to look at the multi-million dollar homes and that was in the 80's. It was great motivation. I still became a garbage man living paycheck to paycheck though.
All of the towns/cities you mentioned are nice places to live, and, of course, you can't list every other worthy town, but do you realize that Chatham 's neighboring town Madison has much more going on in it or for it than does Chatham. Similar in pricing for homes, having excellent public schools, outstanding restaurants, a Shakespeare theater, two universities, a museum, and like Chatham, a train station, a lovely walkable downtown, a longstanding amazing bookstore, and a town that once made the list as NJ best town in 2019, and has consistently ranked high on many such lists, it's hard to overlook Madison as one of the best towns to experience living in New Jersey.
I wouldn’t call Princeton a town in North Jersey. As for North Jersey, I would mention Maplewood and Madison. Good NYC commute and overall very nice places.
Thanks for the efforts not sure if I missed but you mentioned Median rent of xxxx but what unit type (studio, 1 room, 2 room, 3 room, 4 room, apartment?? If you are telling 2100 for Studio vs 2100 for 4 Room, it makes a big difference. The same goes for the Median property price..what is the dwelling type. For me personally I am taking this video okay I get the top 10 towns only..and completely ignore the numbers presented because they lack tons of relative information to conclude the best town to live from cost to lifestyle ratio. Once again thanks for making the video and have a wonderful week.
Used to live in Ridgewood but now retired to The Villages, Florida. Believe it or not a 3/2/2 home here can run you as much as some of the towns you listed. But we don’t have an income tax.
Hi Seth Enjoyed the videos about NJ. My daughter is doing an internship in Rahway . She is living in Hoboken and really likes it. She was offered a position at the company and we are looking for an apartment. Right now she has 2 other room mates so can afford to life in Hoboken. When she starts her job she doesn’t want to have room mates and it makes Hoboken somewhat cost prohibitive. Is there another area or town we can look at that may be comparable to Hoboken that she would be able to commute to Rahway that is safe, She has a car. I think her budget would be around 2k. She is 23 y/o.Thanks for your help.
Could you provide information about Bridgewater City? How expensive is it, and what is the rent for a 2 BHK house? Also, are there good locations available? Please let me know.
Thank you for this video. My family is thinking of moving to North jersey from NY. Want to know about an fairly conservative affluent town but also diverse with great school district near NYC ?
There are a few good ones close to NYC. It would be long to type out the details…Can you email Info@livinginnorthnewjersey.com or Call/Text me at (201)748-2687 ? …or schedule a Zoom call! (link in description)
conservative affluent towns won't be diverse. Your best bets would be montclair, south orange, and maplewood. West orange is very diverse now, and still has very affluent areas - however the public schools(while still good) do not reflect the demographics of the town. There is also Summit.
That doesn’t really exist in NJ. Conservative & affluent towns aren’t diverse. Affluent & diverse towns aren’t conservative. Livingston is the only town that I can think of that may graze all 3.
Those are popular places to visit .however you don't really care about that fact that they have some of the highest taxes in NJ...Mortgage rates, home prices are thru the roof. Not counting how congested these towns are. There are many towns that are great in South Jersey...including Cherry Hill and other towns.
There are 3 major sections in NJ: North Jersey, Central NJ and South Jersey ....... unknown fact about Summit, NJ = A TON of NYC advertising execs live there! No mention of Millburn right next door to Short Hills = Millburn HS was once ranked as the number one HS in America for a few years in a row....
Interesting list even though i hate that the cost of living in this country is too high which makes it really difficult or impossible or nearly impossible for low income families to find a high quality place to live that's affordable. I live in Jersey but i unfortunately live in one of the worst and depressing counties/cities (Bridgeton) in the country. I'm currently trying to find a much better quality place (a townhome/single family home) to live for rent that has 3 bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, that's in north jersey/central jersey, that's in a really nice vibrant rich-like neighborhood, low crime rate and cost $1240 a month or less. Since me and family in my household are on section 8' the voucher limit for my household is $1240 which makes it a lot harder to find a high quality place to live with that pitiful voucher limit. Property taxes are stupid and no home should cost money at all.
I am 68 years old & was born & raised here in NJ & will probably die here, too. These towns are places you want to sell in. NJ has ENDLESS good towns. It's easier to pick the 10 worst towns bc the good towns in NJ are way too numerous!
OMG... as soon as I heard Montclair and Ridgewood I said is this "Best places to pay more taxes than the average USA income". LOL I've been to every town on this top 10 list. These are nice places if youre pushing 50 and have two 2.5 kids and stay home every weekend. I left NJ and the only thing I miss is the fairly good pizza. Not Lucali good but decent. Other than that the taxes.... just wreck your investment portfolio long term. I've put that tax money to work since leaving and I can probably buy a house in NJ now. Too bad I couldn't afford the new assesments surely on the way since the real estate frenzy of 2022-23.
Short Hills is not a town. It is a section of Millburn NJ. Millburn is worth the 2 as well. Has the Papermill Playhouse and the High School combines with all sections
What about that traffic? It's not like all the other cities located away from major roads ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also Ridgewood has most public transportation to NYC - train every half an hour. The only "problem" is how expensive it is.
Rahway is working class/blue collar. It’s up & coming now as it’s more affordable than other nearby areas. It’s diverse currently but I think the demographic will be vastly different in the next 10 years.
you will be next to Rahway State Prison. Maximum Security Prison that houses murderers, rapists and crooks. They call it East Jersey State Prison because people from Rahway voted a new name without the Rahway in the name. Be very careful of prisoners escaping.
There are too many good towns your criteria is not deep enough. Franklin lakes of like Beverly Hills. The most expensive town in the country is alpine, new Vernon is among the richest towns in the country. I don’t think you have defined the right criteria. You need to go deeper than population and housing price etc.
You have probably never been to New Jersey or if you did you most likely visited Camden or Newark😂 You couldn’t afford to live in New Jersey nor do we want you here
I’ve been living in Jersey for 30 years. Nobody includes “New” when saying North Jersey, South Jersey, Jersey Shore or CENTRAL Jersey, and yes Central Jersey does too exist. Ah. He said North Jersey.
New Jersey is expensive, and traffic is mostly horrendous. The best thing to do when retiring is to sell your NJ property, and move to Kentucky. Lots of nice places to live. Living near Lexington KY or Nashville TN are good if a more cosmopolitan feel is desired. Louisville is not as good as the other 2.
@@RonMazyk How many cities aren't Democrat run? And why do you think that very few cities are run by Trumplicans? Any ideas? Pretty sure Trump cult run cities have essentially the same issues. Miami is a shithole

Growing up in the 70s in Wyckoff, NJ. Great memories.
Morristown was on the list, that’s where I live! 😄

Blame the Democrats & everyone voting Democrat bc that's who is keeping the taxes out of control. Vote red to end the Democratic nonsense!!
your section 8 is the exact reason housing is so expensive, you should not be here to begin with. move to africa.
Do you have any bigger glasses? It would be fun to watch for next episode
Slightly bigger throughout the ranking

No blame for ppl to forget the infamous southern part below Princeton, yet he’s using the PATCO footage to talk about PATH😂
Short Hills is not a town. It is a section of Millburn NJ. Millburn is worth the 2 as well. Has the Papermill Playhouse and the High School combines with all sections

How about, Newark, Irvington, East Orange and of course Paterson!!! 😂😂😂😂
Hey all the blacks being gentrified out of Montclair need a place to move to.
Ok watched video
North Jersey is now officially all New Jersey. South Jersey has just sunken into the Atlantic.
My town used to be quiet now it’s a freaking sh88hole. Too many people moving here.
you only hit two towns in the real North NJ (Bergen County)!!!
There are too many good towns your criteria is not deep enough. Franklin lakes of like Beverly Hills. The most expensive town in the country is alpine, new Vernon is among the richest towns in the country. I don’t think you have defined the right criteria. You need to go deeper than population and housing price etc.
Live in N NJ and overpay on rent (property taxes) so that Trenton can squander it.
Arm pit of America
You have probably never been to New Jersey or if you did you most likely visited Camden or Newark😂
You couldn’t afford to live in New Jersey nor do we want you here
What about Essex Fells?
Essex fells is a beautiful town with great schooling. But it didn’t make it to this list!
Unaffordable.
I’ve been living in Jersey for 30 years. Nobody includes “New” when saying North Jersey, South Jersey, Jersey Shore or CENTRAL Jersey, and yes Central Jersey does too exist. Ah. He said North Jersey.
Ur dam right CENTRAL jerz exists, just ask jcp&l.
Not a single place in Monmouth county or by the beach.....
Dude says he's going to talk about towns all over NJ, then doesn't mention anything south of Princeton lol
New Jersey is expensive, and traffic is mostly horrendous.
The best thing to do when retiring is to sell your NJ property, and move to Kentucky. Lots of nice places to live. Living near Lexington KY or Nashville TN are good if a more cosmopolitan feel is desired. Louisville is not as good as the other 2.
so just from the rip I guess I should not live in the south of Jersey
how ironic.................🤣🤣
What would you think would be the best for a gay couple coming from nyc ?
Clifton is said to be the most culturally diverse suburb in Nj… and ranked as one of the top places to live in the country.
Montclair and maplewood!.....from experience!
East Rutherford.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 lol
Montclair but it is expensive.
Sussex county is north jerseys largest county and fourth largest county overall. Berger county isnt even in the top ten.
A bunch of stuffy old towns, Wayne should be no. 5
The problem from the onset of this video is the host doesn’t know how to say New Jersey and his accent is not a New Jersey accent.
Been to many areas of NJ. Sorry but none seem appealing.
what do you do for a living brother? ... where are you born
I have to disagree
Not a great list. Jersey City? Worst schools, crime are you kidding me? You haven't lived there long enough to make this list....Not good information.
I hate montclair so much
It’s not north New Jersey 😂 it’s northern
Every single map of NJ disagrees with you.
If your from NJ you always say North Jersey
It's North Jersey not North New Jersey.
NJ is a nightmare. Why short hills or princeton when one can live in newtown or New Hope PA?
School system? Access to NYC?
You can get great deals on houses in Newark New Jersey or an even better deal in Camden. The democrats ensured these deals for years to come.
