    As a landscape architect this was actually incredibly useful. Have never known how to do those nice architectural line drawings for organic forms. Also never knew about blend curves or how Adobe acrobat treats linescales, I love how you give tips for every part of the process and not just rhino!

      Ah, great to hear that. Those little things are probably not being mentioned that often (I'm at fault here as well haha) :)

    Thanks for the contour technics! I love designing with curves and subD but I struggled with this! And also another thing with the contour lines, to minimize the rhino mistakes you can use bigger gaps. Though It gets less accurate

      Yea... that might be a way, but I hate sacrificing quality/geometric resolution for easier workflow.

    very useful tutorials! I'm new using rhino and I have a question is it the same way if I want to convert it to dwg section files for autocad from rhino?
    and by the way, Ive tried to make plans using this method but idk why when i try to export it to dwg files, mostly there are a lot of lines disappear when i try open it on autocad, can u tell me why?
    thanks!

    Very nice drawing. I wish one day make 2d, contours, booleals etc works as expected in rhino.

      Yea... With every version of Rhino it keeps getting better and better.. But still, there's quite a bit of improving left to do

    • @nikouer

      @@DesignGoBrr I don't think there are big improvements in many areas, especially where the tolerance factor occurs. I have sawn cases in McNeel forums where rhino 5 make 2d work better. Sadly, you spend 5 hours cleaning geometry. This is computer work. That's why we made computers. Anyway, your drawing was excellent. I was thinking if there is a way using grasshoper, to change the contours lines lineweight depending on the distance of the section. EG the first line ( around 20%) should begin with 0.2 mm lineweight and reduce it until the last 20% has lineweight 0.9. Then the section will have better depth feeling.

    I would recommend just using the layout tab in Rhino, ad the "detail view", change the "detail view" display mode by double clicking it and set it to arctic or rendered to get the shades of the object topology.
    Build Title block, annotations/hatches/colors, extra curves etc in layers on top of the detail views on the layout page.
    It'll incorporate future changes in your model. No need for the make2D workflow, no incomplete contours and all of that stuff
    It'll be to scale and scaleable. You can change linewidths and colors in the layers tab. You can add unlimited amounts of layouts tabs, viewports, section cuts and what not. It works way faster.
    You can activate the Clipping planes in specific "detail views" in the "object properties tab".While having the clipping plane selected there is a drop down menu where you can choose between "model views" & "Layout views" to activate the clipping plane in the desired layout viewport"
    If you want to export your drawings to PDF or PNG with rendered textures or shades make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed on your machine so that it wont glitch
    It's a bit of a hassle to figure to learn how to work layout pages & detail views but once you've got them down you'll make something similar to this in 15 minutes which can be instantly updated by simply changing things in the 3D model.

      Yes, I am familiar with that method and it's a good alternative to this one. The reason why I disregard it is because the output gets rasterized and (to my knowledge) there is no way to keep the linework vector-based while the underlying arctic shading is raster-based. This creates aliasing issues while printing with

      @@DesignGoBrr Awesome drawing and technique with the contours lines! Thanks for sharing.
      Regarding the alternative workflow, I think there should be no aliasing issues as you can choose a custom resolution to print to no? In any case, why are you worried about lines getting rasterized if in your workflow you imported them into PS?
      Maybe another alternative could be to make small pipes of the contours and print that in arctic or shaded. I did with Rhino's make2d worked better. Did you try changing the tolerance to see if it gets betters results?

    • @DesignGoBrr
      @DesignGoBrr  3 года назад +1

      @@shynnsup8383 Changing the tolerance doesn't seem to have an effect anymore (it used to in Rhino 5). As for the confusion with rasterization - I used Photoshop just to show the accurate lineweights, in practice I always have all drawings handed out as vector based PDF's. Let me give you an example that seems to always happen: a year after a building has been built a client comes to me and asks for a dwg file because his contractor needs to make minor adjustments to the project (they bought a sink that's too big or something like that). Then all I need to say is - "the pdf's can be used as a reference" without needing to dig for a dwg file in my archives. If the pdf's were rasterized, I would need to send out the CAD file every time anyone needs to make minor adjustments. Eventually my work would just consist of sending out CAD files.

    Amazing video as always! Quick question, I've been following your entire subd house series, for creating plans, sections, renders is it recommended to change subd geometry back to nurbs or mesh? Or can i keep working with Subd geometry? I've seen that you've converted it

    • @DesignGoBrr
      @DesignGoBrr  Год назад

      You only convert SubD to Nurbs when you need to apply Nurbs-only modifications to the form mainly boolean union/difference. If you don't need to do boolean operations - then you keep it as subD to retain the non-destructive editing. You only convert SubD to Mesh for 3D printing (or if you're exporting to Unreal Engine) .

    • @andywong8421
      @andywong8421 Год назад

      @@DesignGoBrr cool thanks, I'm guessing in your subd house project you've coverted due to boolean operations for furniture?

      @@DesignGoBrr also if I want to render interior shell with a different material? is it recommended to extract surfaces of the interior subd layer to apply a different material texture?

    • @DesignGoBrr
      @DesignGoBrr  Год назад

      @@andywong8421 Yup. I think Rhino 8 will have the possibility for multi-material sub-object setup, but as it is now - it's cleaner to just have the faces extracted.

    uh the make2d in rhino 7 is just BAD! I always export to Rhino 5 to do the job. It works so much better and mmuch fewer lines are missing!!!
