Taako: What if we,,, *gives an alternative option that's literally just changing one thing, which comes out to the best case scenario* The other 6 fantasy NASA graduates, including an actual scientist and people who have been working on this specific problem for decades: ...
Justin, Here There Be Gerblins: Taako is an idiot. It's just Very Good to see Justin realize that oh,, Taako's definitely Not an idiot.
Pretty much Justin tried super hard to either completely circumvent a situation pr problem, or make it so that he was in control of it. For instance, in the infamous “Taako forgets” scene, it was actually Justin who began the characters forgetting. Then there was the time during the minecart ride being chased by a worm where Taako reasonably saved the day like 3 different times (tentacled the worm, levitated Roswell, levitated the cart), only to be literally railroaded. Finally, everyone’s favorite scene of Taako buying Tupperware, then immediately selling it back the to seller for the most expensive thing in the store, which happened to be an overpowered mega-sword. Also he once logically reasoned that the seven deadly sins are illogical because of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation where a person could always be considered guiltily of one of two sins.
It took a couple of rewatches, but I just realized when the prophecy crystal breaks, Magnus raises up a hand in front of Lucretia as if to protect her since what the heck is that. Always the protector (even in a situation that doesn't remotely call for it, she has a barrier, magnus, you dingus)
@@Plantsushi Magnus was going to get sucked into the Astral plane and fight back-to-back with Kravitz while Taako, Merle adn Barry take on the Edward and Lydia. But Taako wasn't going to let that happen to his bestie LOL
This might just be me, uh projecting. But the three options makes me think of a response to a shitty situation, trauma I guess. The idea that when when the situation is over when you're out or when you're on your path to recovery, from getting out. You feel like you have two choices, stop yourself from ever being hurt again, close of all your bonds shut yourself away, you know. Or you can run, you can hide and you can run and you can escape you can just keep travelling, keep going, and give up on what you have right now. And then you realise there is a third option The option to cut out what hurt you, to keep what you love to hold onto the things that you need and that you want and that you don't want to let go. And to cut it off to take what you want and get out and leave and fight and become a better person. Do not close yourself off to keep loving and going and risking it because you know that that's what's gonna help be good to, to lead to the future you really want. That probably makes no sense, but yeah, brain go brr. Look it's like one thirty am, I'm tired, my thoughts are not working. Anyway yeah I dunno.
I started listening to Balance on July 15th 2016, and caught up on August 5th 2016. So I listened to episode 69 on the day it dropped. The reason I was able to listen to so much so fast was because I was going through a huge depressive episode, so I always likened the hunger to depression. Even knowing what it's meant to be. So this part, where community and support are what help fight it, not cutting yourself off or running away? That hit hard. And that's why no matter how much I love the other campaigns, Balance will always be the one that's most special to me. Especially because the "How does Magnus die?" bit was what made me want to get better. Like everything else probably built up to that being the thing that tipped the scales, but that part hit me so hard. Like, I used to not be able to pick a favorite of the thb, but I can now say it's 100% Magnus. I love the others, but again, Magnus is so important to me and my dealing with my depression.
Lindsey Herbst I felt the same way about Lup. The way Griffin described the black curtained room of the umbrastaff and how hard it made life and how much effort went into a single spell and how it was infuriating to see others be hurt and be unable to do anything, all that rang too true for me. It has become my inspiration to continue to fight my depression and anxiety disorders. One day when I’m better I really want the tattoo “she rises” based on that scene.
"Don't try to manufacture my character growth!" I always start Getting Emotional at that "Taako's good out here!" Oh, and the animation's beautiful. Wonderful work! I love the color coding. Black lines for everything 'normal', red for Litch Lup, blue for Lucrecia in her bubble, purple for the crystal and the vision it shows them.
I think he probably did. He remembered things a lot through the course of balance. And a big prophecy dropping into your lap is the kind of thing even the most lackadaisical dnd note taker will recall! I think it’s more likely Griffin had to edit out a handful of earlier attempts to make it manifest to make this moment more satisfying for the audience.
To be honest though, Taako really didn't have to hug Lucretia, and heck he doesn't really have to forgive her... I feel like it makes sense for his character because he was robbed of Lup's memory during a time when he wasn't even sure if Lup was even safe. Besides, Justin didn't say Taako's going to hate her guts forever, just that "it probably softened over time, but I don't think the sting of that is something that Taako would ever sort of let go of, even though things worked out." (Justin, The The Adventure Zone Zone Finale transcript). I don't think he's going to be outwardly spiteful towards her (at least not forever) and they'll probably still be friends, but like Justin said the "sting" of what she's done is lodged in pretty deep.
Oh yeah, definitely. Taako refusing to hug her was very in character and extremely understandable. Not only did he lose the memory of his sister at a time where he didn't even know if she was okay, but he lost EVERYTHING. Like, Taako's backstory really changes tone when you consider it wasn't him alone in the world, but him _and his sister._ They shared such a profound bond that Lup knew she needed a memory of her best day with the love of her life _and_ a best day with her BROTHER to "survive" becoming a Lich. Those were the two most important people for her, and we can safely assume Taako's most important person was just Lup (followed by the team). So erasing Lup wasn't just erasing 100 years of Taako's life, but his _entire_ life. I don't begrudge him being fucking pissed at Lucretia for that. Like I love Lucretia and I love this entire cast of dorks, but Taako and Davenport were the two that got the worst deal out of the jellyfish amnesia thing, and Davenport only remembered _his goddamn name_. Losing a person like that, and not being even able to remember them? I wouldn't be surprised if a part of Taako felt empty and like something _big_ was missing during those entire 10 years. Because that's one big loss to forget (and Barry straight up begged to be killed to NOT forget like. That's some heavy shit and I'm really glad they put such an emphasis on how horrifying it is to forget a loved one, much less _an entire lifetime_)
If you haven't yet please listen to it. Its a podcast called The Adventure Zone, with multiple series. This is from the first one, Balance. None of the other seasons can compare to the first, Balance is one of the best they've done. Although I will admit Amnesty was also excellent, but I feel it was less to do with Griffin's writing and more to do with the characters being played being just so damn good. I feel like part of the problem is they may be trying too hard, what I think what makes best story telling in Dungeons and Dragons is a laid back attitude, writing the story as it moves along, not scripting it. I will start a fresh campaign out with a rough idea of how I think the story should go, I often even write alternative plans ahead of time with guesses based on what my players will do. As the campaign progresses, what the players do can drastically change what I may have been planning and will re-write accordingly. I feel like this makes the writing more interesting and also gives the players a bigger role in the world around them. I am having a hard time getting in to Steeple Chase, as it is right now there isn't really a good driving factor to their game. They are just completing "jobs". It feels like a monster of the week kind of deal, but with heists instead, with much less character growth.
The beginning arc of Balance had no plot because they were just playing a one off dnd session for MBMbAM. Then Griffin wrote a metric ton of plot, and continued writing and finessing it, and doing a judicious and podcast appropriate amount of railroading. Steeple Chase, to me, started out joyful and silly just like Balance did. And now, close to thirty episodes in, I want to know what Dentonic is up to. And I really want to know what’s up with the person they spoke with at the end of the last sort of mini job in Ephemera. Actual play podcasts will never work the way a real life game will. It’s too messy, too boring to outsiders, too much mechanics which are fun as a player and helpful (and likely happening behind the scenes of some podcasts like NADDPOD) but would be crushingly dull to listen to in what is a storytelling entertainment session.
Griffin saying “huh” 3 times in three separate character voices and getting it across is pretty great.
"I dunno about you but Taako's good out here" I love how the smallest little jokes in the series all get brought back together into _heartbreakingly_ excellent lines.

I mean yeah I’ve got feels and shit but THE STARBLASTER IS A LITERAL BOAT SHIP AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Yes we love boat starblaster!!
2:17 the amount of emotion in her voice kills me every time. It almost sounds like she’s crying right then.
*sobbing* This is the best comedy podcast
Stop making me cry real human tears over a group of fantasy characters for a third time!
I reeeeeeaally dig the way you draw lup's features, and the "huh" "huh" "huh" moment was Perfect!!
Thanks! I was excited to try to come up with a design for the red robes that was both unique and compatible with canon info on their appearances. ^_^
4:25 incase you need to hear that again
I love how you made Magnus and Lucretia's voices overlap in tune with Griffins description.
THIS PODCAST HAS GOTTA BE A MOVIEEE
I feel like an animated series would handle the story better than a movie since there is just so much to touch on and get right.
@@fenrir9340 wAIT NO THATS BETTER
I WANT IT TO BE AN ANIMATED SERIES MADE BY THE SAME PEOPLE WHO MADE AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER
@@notapotato_ Yes! Them and with the brothers heavily involved would be heaven! I would love if it had their comments still in it too!
I raise you: a 2d animated show
I will watch this whenever I am down for any reason
THANKS FOR THE ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤 AND TEH HIGHLIGHT
I HAVE NEVER WATCHED THIS WHY DO I CRYYY
If you haven't yet please listen to it. Its a podcast called The Adventure Zone, with multiple series. This is from the first one, Balance. After balance were a few mini arcs gms dmed by other characters. Then another main series called Amnesty which is in Monster Of The Week ruleset. Then a return to DnD with Graduation, which personally I am not a huge fan of. We are currently in Ethersea which is shaping up to be pretty good.

Man... I think the first time I saw this was when I barely first got into taz (it was out of context enough I didn't remember anything spoilery don worry x)), but I'm so glad I saved so I could watch when I actually finished because *wow*, this is amazing. (And freckles!! Merle looks so good! And Taako w/ black hair looks real good!)
This is one of my favourite moments in the whole campaign, and you captured it so beautifully! Thank you for making this!
WHAT. HOW LATE GAME IS THIS BECAUSE THAT WAS WAY MORE THAN I WAS EXPECTING TO FEEL
If I remember correctly, it's really late game. Right around endgame, I believe. Shortly before the end of the series, whereabouts.
This is the 2nd to last episode
Candy Riviera this is the penultimate episode
I will never not tear-up when I see Lucretia cry when Magnus hugs her
hell YES there’s a third option!!!! i just finished balance this morning, and watching animatics feels like poking the wound, but i can’t stop. i’m glad i found an animatic of this moment, thank you

TAAKO'S GOOD OUT HERE!
oh hot /damn/ this is so beautiful!!! I started wellin tears when magnus hugged lucretia hot damn!!
I’m in tears, I love your art and I love that you chose to draw this uplifting scene. The despairing ones are compelling, but it makes me so happy to see this moment come to life- and you’ve got a million little touches in there that get my heart.
Also I have a meeting in like 12 minutes and now I have to clean up my face aaaaaaaaagh
Those happy scenes are sooo cute.
Liches get stitches!!!! 😍😍😃
*THE PAIN IN MY HEART IS GREAT*
So many feels, such smiles, oh gosh!
Beautiful work! I love how you show Taako getting the idea at 2:51
Lydia H I love the ears perking up like a cat.
Taako is fucking beautiful
I just watched the finale and I'm still not over it
Me too, I just finished it today and I still feel it so much
@@SunnyDragonfly it took me a few weeks to process personally. I'll miss balance but glad that they're trying new things. I'm still not 100% though.
Well, gee, here I go crying again thanks a LOT
I really liked the expressions u chose, they fit the vibe well
Oh no. Me tears.
I found this video while searching for there is a third option from the cat in the hat....my heart 😢
This animatic is absolutely glorious
There’s something just really enjoyable about your style! It’s so clean and expressive!

Nope. Nope! Honesty had to look away when Magnus hugged lucricia. I felt the tears welling up and i can't be crying right now. Not at the bus station.

Myranda Jo
Enough questions. What did you really feel?
Jokes aside, what's with all the question marks?
Wait, the latest comment you just pinned like 6 hours ago. This video came out last year! That means your still reading your comments on your videos. That means you still treasure your feedback on this wonderful animation you put time into. That's so fucking wholesome your making me tear up a bit. I love that so much.
Hard hard disagree but okay
This ending hit me so hard. I hope amnesty can live up to it during its finale.
It better, cause ima binge the while series when it ends
judgement It's over, and I think it did pretty good of a live-up
It did.
**sobbing My ass off**
WAS NOT FUCKING READY TO REWATCH THIS
