This might a bit unrelated, but can I just say how kind Taako was in this scene? Like, a lot of the time he's seen as an ass, and in a lot of instances he truly is, but at the same time, he just... drops that when it counts? And here it's clear, Magnus and Merle are still joking lightly, but Taako is vocal in how he despises this outcome, and his replies to Sloane are sincere, and in the end he's ready to defend them if need be. I just... I love that a lot. Especially considering his backstory, and all the bits he's missing, and how withdrawn and defensive he often is, and how, despite that, he sometimes can't help but be empathetic and vulnerable. I love Taako a lot.
Something so underrated and that you did VERY well is when Taako just refuses to accept that there's nothing they can do for Hurley. It's kind of glossed over in the actual clip, but it's very good and it makes me feel feelings.
this is so beautiful. it was one of the very first times i cried during the show, and god did this bring back all those emotions hard and fast. that last bit where you drew them all crying as they laugh? life ruining, thank you so so so much for sharing this
I was sold due to Phandalin's destruction. I had the podcast on as background filler and was like idk. Then a town died. What? Go back. They failed? That never happens! A lot of campaigns seem to have loopholes to prevent failure and are just about getting through the story rather than telling one.
in all honesty, i just wasn't feeling the whole petals to the metal arc, so this scene wasn't as moving to me as i'm sure it was for most other people. however, this is still a great animatic, and i think the color at the end really added something special, so i'm glad you took the time and effort to play around with it.
thank you so much for this animatic, this is the most emotional part of the podcast for me. you did it so much justice!!! evetytime i hear this part i start crying, i'm not sure why. i love everything about this animation, the colour of the petals, the change after hurley and sloane become the tree, the poses, the way that sloane looks at hurley, the designs of all the characters, the silly touch of the sombrero on taako, everything about this is so beautiful.
I love this so much! I almost cried again to be honest with you. I love your designs for everyone, especially Takko and Mangus. And having the gang crying while laughing was a wonderful touch! I think I'm gonna save that scene as my background because of how well drawn it is :)
Hiii well I've come back to say thank you soooooo much!! This is the video that introduced me into the adventure zone, which has become such a huge part of my life. This introduced my to the McElroy's and their content and DnD in general (I'm starting my own campaign this summer!!) I mean it really means a lot to me, so thank you so so much. ♡♡
Dead_Meme_Walking omg!!!!! im so happy for you getting into DnD, thats sound so fun!!! And Im so glad I helped introduce you to the McElroys and the Adventure Zone!!! :D
I remember listening to this podcast for the first time and going "haha, funny DND shenanigans!", but then this scene happened and it was an emotional gut-punch out of nowhere. I didn't expect this podcast to give me so many feelings, but it has made me cry numerous times. Balance was just incredible and I think this was the first moment that made me acknowledge and appreciate the depth the story has.
For me, this was the moment that turned Balance into something truly special. Up until then, I still felt like I was listening to a humorous podcast as a rowdy family played a fun DnD game with an interesting original story and some cool thematic settings and ideas. This was the first time that I cried, though. I found myself unexpectedly moved by the imagery described in this scene and the way that these two characters found peace. It gave more emotional weight to the Tres Horny Boys' quest, and made the potential consequences of their successes and failures feel more personal. It's the moment I went from enjoying The Adventure Zone to loving it.
This is so good and so powerful! Seeing it animated like this gives it that much more emotion and your artwork and timing and the transitions are beautifully done. Like another commenter said, I love how you add that moment of humor and levity at the end without breaking the immersion or emotions of the scene.
this is one of the most beatiful taz animations ive ever seen?? (im realizing just now that im about 3 years late lmao) but i cried so much listening to the episode and you did it amazingly
I love this, I just recently got into Taz and I want to animated this scene but I don't think I can do it justice but you did so much better than I dreamed of
Adding color when Griffin added music was a nice touch. It really matched the affect it had when I listened to the episode the first time

So I like to think that when Sloan is whispering to Hurley she just says “hey do you wanna be a tree?”
(final episode spoilers)
"and then were gonna be dryads later and come out of the tree its gonna be sick, dude"
@@keaton5101 thank you for making this a read more im only on crystal kingdom

That's amazing. I adore it.
And then Taako fails The will check against the sash
*F U C K*
with advantage aha
"I punch Taako in the face"
I love how you animated that last laugh between the characters without losing the tragedy of the moment. Really great job!
"Don't even think about it, Magnus!"
I love scenes when characters laugh-cry like that :,)
Sloan: “There’s nothing we can do.”
Taako: “That’s horseshit!”
Awww character development! He’s starting to care about others more!
i was not expecting everything to be coloured after the transformation! i really like it, kinda helps transition the mood.
Something so underrated and that you did VERY well is when Taako just refuses to accept that there's nothing they can do for Hurley. It's kind of glossed over in the actual clip, but it's very good and it makes me feel feelings.
hey. hey.
listen.
i finally got to this part in the podcast.
came here to say thank u.
i'm crying.
omg I really just realized why Taako is so upset when Sloan says there's nothing to do about the poison and I'm crying again
Oh my f u c k
*O* *h*
I just realized that Magnus was going to one chop the tree with rail splitter.
i forgot it one hits any tree.
This is the first time this show made me cry and I will never ever forget it.
yuuuuuuup
this is so beautiful. it was one of the very first times i cried during the show, and god did this bring back all those emotions hard and fast. that last bit where you drew them all crying as they laugh? life ruining, thank you so so so much for sharing this
This sad but. Absolutely beautiful scene. This is what sold me on this podcast.
I was sold due to Phandalin's destruction. I had the podcast on as background filler and was like idk. Then a town died. What? Go back. They failed? That never happens! A lot of campaigns seem to have loopholes to prevent failure and are just about getting through the story rather than telling one.
sometimes a family is two lesbians.
Sometimes a family is a literal fucking tree.
Caleb Meilink-Smith sometimes a family is two lesbians in a literal fucking tree.
Loving the Tex-Mex Wizard design on Taako. Good stuff.
ThisChannelHasNoContent thanks, thats what i was aiming for!
This moment is the 1st time I cried during the TAZ: Balance arc podcast!
Sloane's design is amazing and I kinda want that image at 4:33 framed, this is so good

it sounds like griff is so close to crying in the middle of this whole thing
my favorite gays god bless em

Bumble Flip. Awwww!!! Thank you so much!!! :D!!!
This is the first time TAZ made me cry like a bitch, and I'll never forget this episode
This is really good. Made me really relive hearing this for the first time. I totally,,, didn't,,, cry,,,,
This scene still makes me cry every time I listen to it
DAMN IT. Audio or animatic, the end of the that arc still makes me cry and laugh.
I just watched petals to the metal and that scene broke me, you did a amazing job with this animatic and brought back all those emotions
Love your imagining of the Raven.
Amazing! I love all your character designs, and you've made this scene ten times more heartbreaking than it already was
Hiii well I've come back to say thank you soooooo much!! This is the video that introduced me into the adventure zone, which has become such a huge part of my life. Damn, that really floored me to see it turn to color and the trio's laugh...

I know this is 4 years old by now, but the still where the three of them laugh while crying is breathtaking. Wonderful art
I'm genuinely crying. Your depictions are great, but your paintings of the tree and the petals are outstanding!
I love the way you've drawn the characters!
-sob- my tree lesbians
"there's nothing we can do for her."
"HORSE SHIT!"

I literally started crying during this part. It was so beautiful I dont know if griffin made the music but my God it was beautiful.
awww that was beautiful! this actually makes me want to start listening to TAZ.
Psychotic Muffin my god do it it's amazing!!!
I DID! I'm having the time of my life lmao i should have taken to listening to podcasts while drawing sooner! It's productive AND fun!
Psychotic Muffin definitely!

I don’t care if they didn’t explain the whole tree thing, this part was so beautiful, I loved these two characters
