Shop pays for those machines. And it’s not that much of a struggle once you’ve done a lot of them, you can tell by the sensor holes were they line up, for instance the temp sensors will be in line with each other and the differential pressure sensors will be in line with each other.
@Dun Built It I've done maybe a couple thousand dpf's. I was poking fun. Noticed the exterior dirt and with some it can sometimes be a bear lining them up such as a cascadia 1 box filters and sometimes on the m2 platform.
I figure you would've hit it with the pressure washer first. Be good to yourself. No need to have all that shit and sand all over you, the shop or your tools.
These stupid things put my dad out of business his 2000 freightliner FLD ran like a top 1.8 million miles on the truck 400,000 on a new Detroit series 60 crate engine. Forced to upgrade to a dpf truck so he got a 2009 peterbilt and it only lasted about 4 years before the engine blew up, spent 35,000 on an in frame rebuild and that only lasted about a year. Couldn’t afford to rebuild it again so he sold it and his trailer and started driving a company truck. His old freightliner is still running hauling b train doubles here in Oregon
Now if you are in a state with no emission regulations, you delete that and truck will instantly run 100x better and not have to worry about dpf issues.
It's funny that we did not design a new engine at all to meet " emmisions standards" We just added 3 more aftertreatment systems to squirtt Nitrogen on the exhaust and then stuff it in a filter... Yeah diesel engines love that... My CATS will run 2.5 million miles before i even see blow by let alone pull a head! When it calls for frequent regens, lack of power, prolonged regens, excessive DEF use and check engine lights, and finally engine derate due to excessive backpressure or DPF failure. Yayy EPA.
The benefits are exactly what? The consequences are- It put countless small businesses out of business that cannot afford to replace these idiotic filters! Thereby lessening opportunities for people that want to be drivers.
Exhaust filter? I'm not a trucker by any means but I've never seen this and I have seen many repair and rebuild videos. I guess you learn something new.
You know, you’d think that mechanics wouldn’t be hostile when you tell them to use Kopr-Kote on fasteners, yet they’ll bitch about spun inserts and broken fasteners. Mind you, if the dolts that build them would use the stuff, three years in when you keep getting derated, stuff would come apart like it’s supposed to.
