Hi there! We our just starting our homeschool journey! We are so excited and I have plans to kick off our school year with a shark unit study too! Looking forward to learning from your channel.
@@TheHomeschoolConvert thank you so much! And thank you so very much for sharing about the free printable. I was able to get these done for my kiddos today!
Clearly I’ve been watching a ton of your videos today lol. My son has been into sharks and the Ocean and this will be perfect for our summer Oceans Unit Study, THANK YOU!
If you feel inclined to delve into food-chains, we did a fun craft with the shark food chain that I found on Pinterest. We made animal cut-outs of each animal’s open-mouth face “eating” the next animal (think 2-d nesting dolls). Or I suppose you could put them on cups or something for a 3-d nesting doll effect.
Thank you for this!!! I had been looking all over for a shark unit/ideas for my shark obsessed son! I am so excited to kick off our school year with this unit tomorrow!
Obviously it's too late for this unit but if you do this unit again or if someone else wants an easy shark themed food idea get some of those blue gummy sharks make casserole dish of blue jello and place the sharks in side or on top of it you could also incorporate black or raspberries into the jello as Coral 🪸 and cool whip around the edge as sea foam. You could also make beach cupcakes which are really just normal cupcakes that you dip your frosted cupcake into gram cracker crumbs to form sand then use blue decorating gel to form the water's edge. A gummy bear under a cocktail umbrella can add to the effect of you have some on hand
I have a edible activity you can try that I learned in a Child Development course many years ago. You will need: plain cupcakes or muffins, graham crackers, whip cream or white cake frosting, blue food coloring, cocktail umbrellas, gummy sharks, and a small plastic bag. The first thing you do is color the whip or frosting blue. The whip cream or frosting will cover the entire muffin. Next, throw the graham crackers in the bag and pulverize them. Cover one side of the muffin with the pulverized graham crackers. Lastly, throw the gummy shark on top of the ocean side (blue) and pin the umbrella on the sand side (graham crackers). Have your side conversation!
We are finishing up a summer long Ocean Study that my son chose. We've been really light about it though, just reading books together and watching movies. No major school work. We will start our official year August 2nd. 😊
Public schools in my area go back around mid-August, but some in the US go after Labor Day. We’ve embraced the flexibility of homeschooling and school year round with breaks throughout. I live in Texas, which has oppressively hot summers, so we took a shorter summer break and will take more breaks throughout the year when the weather is more enjoyable. My kids should retain information better this way with just taking a few weeks off periodically versus taking an extended summer break. It’s what works for us, but that’s the beauty of homeschooling! I love that each family can adapt their schedule to meet their needs.
Hi jess! My name is Carlotta, I just found your channel and I love it! Sorry for my english but I’m Italian. I don’t have children and here we not homeschooling, but I’m so interested in what kind of book you use, and how you organize. I simply love learning for myself. I just start my night waching your videos! 😂😂😂
Just fill out the form, and Book Shark will email you the link for the PDF. It will subscribe you to their newsletter, but you can just unsubscribe if you don't want to receive those emails.
So excited when I saw this! Loved your video on the farm unit study ( I think that's what it was called) so I know this one will be fantastic!!! Also your library book choices are always excellent...pen and paper🧐🤗

I learned so much from this video. Beautifully done! I'm a "relaxed homeschool teacher" convert.
Thank you! Always good to “meet” a fellow convert! 😁
13:59 you can tell how much you like homeschooling

@@TheHomeschoolConvert you're welcome! I hope I gave a clear explanation.

Sounds great! Ocean studies are so fun!
Seems everyone starts so early in the US!? I’m in Canada and we don’t return until after Labor Day! I’m just getting into summer here.

@@TheHomeschoolConvert we have oppressively cold winters. So we’ll enjoy our summer while it lasts!! Lol 😂
I’m not sure I’d trade Texas summers for Canadian winters, haha!
I love to put together my own unit studies and this one looks like so fun! 😍😍 Way to go! 💕💕
Thank you! We’re excited to start on Monday!
