IMPORTANT NOTE: The side of the tent with two entrances folds all the way back. I missed this as other similar tents I've owned zip all the way back whereas this simply folds. This means there are no obstructions to your view! Please note I have not been paid for this review and I do not earn any commission. If you want to purchase this tent please Google 'Nortent Ly1' to take you to their websites and resellers (such as UK site Valley & Peak). Keep an eye on my channel as it is my intention to test this as soon as possible.
Now thats an interesting looking tent, its nice to see something different for a change, most "new" tents are usually slight variations on a theme, but this is definitely unique. A really nice 1 person base camp tent 👍🏻
That’s an absolute palace of a tent. Would be perfect for motorcycle camping where weight isn’t an issue, and love the 2 vestibules for keeping gear in. Serious contender. I had the vern 1 on my shortlist but will definitely add this too. Thanks for the review
For motorbike camping this would be ideal. One vestibule could easily house helmet, boots, gloves, leathers / fabrics, etc. The footprint would keep it all dry too.
Palace indeed, as such, it would limit where you can retire for the night. If your intended stomping grounds have plenty of wide open space, it seems a nice contender.
Just what I was thinking - but I already have a Vango 350 for that purpose, almost the same and massive when erected. The space you (I at least) need to get in/out of my wet (always in the UK!) riding gear is a lot!
I have this pitched at home now and am loving it! It just the perfect tent for people who like space but want to travel alone. You'll have to have the back to carry that thing, but it is not a tent for smaller folks. I bet it'll do great in nasty weather. You can use the one vestibule for the wet entry and change it and have the other one for your dry stuff and cooking. There is enough head room for sitting on a mat chair. It seems very sturdy.
The model is one of the oldest tunnel tent models made. There used to be a 3 pole version as well. With the 3rd pole feet at the 2nd and the pole angled for a bigger porch. They were made by various brands incl. Lowland or Ramble, all Dutch.
Greetings from Northern California. Looks like a bombproof tent for eskimos, but for the rest of us a heavy condensation factory in anything above freezing.
Superb tent on this initial look. I bikepack with a folding bike and my favourite 3 season tent is my little Nordisk Telemark 1 which is advertised as being 830 grams but near a kilo on my scales. Four pegs to set it up and it has kept me warm and dry in some torrential storms. What it is not is a tent designed to withstand storms at higher levels in winter, this tent will no doubt do a lot better in those conditions. I love the quality of this Nortent, the colours are perfect and the double doors a nice touch, but 22 pegging points - okay for base camp but a pia when you’re moving on each day. Guess you only use them all when it’s stormy 🤔
"230 metres wide"? Wow that's nearly as big as Terminal 5! Seriously though great video and I am really loving the look of Nortent products like this -they really are are a camping equipment manufacturer on a rise in the industry right now.
Nice 1 andy mate 👍 WOW that looks an absolute unit of a tent 😮 spoilt for choice its got so much going for it! I know you said about the weight, but i think if this was your exclusive winter tent you will be laughing its awesome. Im sure the missus said i needed a new tent 🤔 at least thats what i heard anyway 😅
Great video as always Andy. Serious money and a bit weighty, but then again it's definitely a serious piece of kit too. I could get away with the weight for my solo car camping trips, but I think the missus would lynch me if I bought another tent 🤣
It's a beast! Massively over the top for most people, but I know you like a summit camp and a windy one too! The space is great and it'll give you lots of confidence high up.
@BackpackingUK I got an amazing deal from Nortent. I already had a 30% code with them. So I was able to put it with the black Friday deal. I got an extra set of poles and the Footprint. They also seam sealing them now, for £365. Think that's an amazing price for what I'm getting.
With two vestibule design the two person makes more sense. Yes it's heavy, but if true 4 season then understandable. Probably not up to a Hilleberg Staika, but the Ly2 is half the price of that tent. Nice to see Nortent giving people high quality options at lower prices.
Very cool design. I think it would be well suited for back country skiing with a sled. One thing that would be nice would be an extended vestibule for cooking. I have a Keron 3GT and the extended vestibule is great for digging a trench to get standing height and "shelf" for cooking. A 3 person tent is a bit much for solo trips and I'm looking into getting a small tent. Nammatj 2GT has been on the short list, but it's still a bit big. A Vern 1 with extended vestibule and a larger inner instead of the second door with be really cool to see.
Cheers for the first look review. Looks like a solid and very well made tent, tons of space and quite different from anything else out there. I'm sure it'll find its place for some uses but is far too heavy and it's footprint is way too big for me to consider for use where I go though. Nice 1 ⛺ 👍
Nortent have some interesting new designs quite different from other brands and I like that. But this was heavy for a 1person tent, my Hilleberg Nallo2GT with much more space both in inner and vestibule weighs about the same. Maybe the Nortent Ly1 will be better in winter conditions, I think so, but if you're not often in the mountains during winter you don't need such a bomb proof tent in my opinion. Same applies to the Hilleberg Soulo, You only need such a strong tent during winter, but the space is limited for all the gear you need then. And I don't really know if I'm a fan of two vestibules on a 1person tent either, would prefer one large instead, two doors in the innertent adds weight.
Great initial look. Love the head height. Perhaps people complaining about weight should look at their fitness levels before heading outdoors on multi day hikes. 😉
Thats exactly the same configuration as an old Vango we used to use in the Scouts back in the 80s. I think it was called the Beta? Cracking tent then too.
I wouldn’t mind giving one of those a go. But I wouldn’t buy one until I have tried it out for myself. As you said, it looks good at first but might be too much of a good thing. Over the top for just a night under the stars when it has to come down in the morning. A bit on the heavy side though.
Nice video, interesting shelter but an odd size for one person and thus the high weight. For another 300 g one could have a geodesic two man tent such as a Hilleberg Tara. A good price however, so perhaps a good choice if you are winter car camping?
Interesting design, particularly for anyone with loads of gear. A couple of questions about doors please. It looks as though the inner door zips are high enough to be above eye level for views out, but the two upright outer doors with vent are set low so obstruct views when sitting upright? Does every door come with two zippers to be opened from either end?
Actually looks like a cracking tent Andy. Definitely heavy but if you consider it against something like an Allak 2 which probably has less space it’s actually a good option. Really strange looking tent but I’d definitely give that a go
I think they need to double-check their weights, but yes, potentially the 2P could be the better buy. However, this 1P version has more than enough space for me!
No price ?. Thats a proper good tent and very well robustly made and tons of room. Id say a fantastic base camp tent but probably not what id use for hiking. Great review
@BackpackingUK Must have missed it. If you can afford it id say probably worth every penny. But id still doubt it as a hiking tent. Great video tho mate
Thanks Andy appreciate that. I have the vern 1 pc and love it.. It's a beast though at 4.4kgs with upgraded poles and footprint. So this needs to be significantly less or I might as well take that. Really like the way you've taken the channel this year. So much variety, reviews, trips etc. Well done. 👍🏻
Looks a great tent Andy, i did have a look at the website a few days ago, I reckon they could make that a lot smaller for a single person and reduce the weight, i don't think you need a footprint to cover the vestibule so they must have a reason for it, probable more suited for winter conditions (snow). I can see people not using all the guy lines which again would be wasted having unless for winter and wild use, I personally wouldn't buy one at that weight. Also looks to high inside which again is not needed. A lot of tent for a single person. Great video demonstration though Steve 👍
hmm my old TNF VE 25 (produced in Ireland) weights 4.5 kg with everything (excluding footprint) and can potentially survive all sorts of weather including a lot of snowfall and its not producing a lot of noise in strong wind either thanks to smartly cut outer tent edges. Is it really worth to accept drawbacks just to save a few grams ? Or in other words: couldn't someone built a tent like this just a bit smaller but still with that many poles i.e. 5 or let's say at least 4 ?
As always it's outside the range of the average camper/walker who can't justify a £500 Plus one person tent. Don't get me wrong it is a nice looking tent but pricey lol Great review MANY THANKS

For me, no. The Vern now comes with 9.5mm poles and it’s half a kilo lighter. It’s still a big one man tent, especially for someone my size. This Ly is an absolute beast though, it’d be much better in bad weather and there’s loads of space.

the design is amazing, if it just was lighter.
Hey Andy great review. I've been considering this. Have you got a breakdown of what each part weighs? Cheers

Love a tent review. I also spend my time scrolling Right Move for million pound houses for sale ... One can dream 😅
Wow that looks more like a two man tent, if it was lighter I would be interested, but still a cracking tent...
What a great tent, i think it would make a good bikepacking tent cause it's a bit heavy.

Excellent video.
Thank you
Same design as the vaude ferret 2 I still wish I had that tent but gave it to the scouts when I moved house…
Great looking tent but as you say the sacrifice is the weight.
Looks massive (when it’s packed up) okay for car camping
It’s 40cm x 21cm packed
I've always wondered why tentmakers can't get scales that work properly. Looks extremely well build though.

Has he shown the same tent?!?! I don’t really follow him anymore.
Love this tent, shame about the weight. How does the weight compare to other 4 season tents like MSR etc?
MSR are GARBAGE! Don’t touch them.
Oh look. Another Norternt Lye review. 🤣
Exciting new version of tents.
Maybe over time there will be lighter versions.
Nice review. What Mountain Equipment mid layer are you wearing please?
I think it’s the Eclipse Jacket (it’s more like a technical fleece!).
Does anyone
Know if nortent are replacing the poles for the Vern 1 after the collapses shown on various pages ?
It looks like a good Moto camping tent.
Excited
As always it's outside the range of the average camper/walker who can't justify a £500 Plus one person tent. Don't get me wrong it is a nice looking tent but pricey lol Great review MANY THANKS
nice and good build tent. But to heavy for 1 person and take to much ground space. But excellent video.
Is this a temporary bus garage?
Nice looking tent👍 Can i ask what trousers you are wearing?
Fjallraven Vidda Pro’s 👍
Cracking tent .😊
What’s the mountain equipment top you’re wearing mate?
It’s the Touchstone fleece 👍

At nearly 600 quid to buy, these will compete being up there with Hilleberg !😮
Approx £500 inc vat and duty. £35 for the footprint.

It’s the pack size of a two man tent. Hilleburg akto is half the size.
Indeed. I for one find it an absurd design for a one-person tent. You really do not need two vestibules, and they could've made this tent lighter, compacter and likely more durable by just leaving out one of those vestibules; it is big enough to have anything you want stored in there. Too expensive, too heavy and too over promoted.
Like the vern, we can expect a glut of videos all showing the same tent.
If you mentioned the weight first nobody would remember the colour of it, but you knew that 😉
Looks like a Glastonbury marquee
How much does it cost
Approx £500 plus £35 footprint
So may pegs? That's one reason why it is quite heavy.
I meant "many" of cause. Apart from the weight issue it seems very comfortable. Maybe a good choice for motorcyclists, eBikers or also conventional cyclists? For hikers there are many (less luxurious) solutions, weighing less than half.

Good vid and nice tent. In the UK and especially 'midgy' Scotland, the mesh doors need to be outside the fabric doors on the inner tent so that you get midge free ventilation inside. How are they arranged on this tent? Thanks, and keep up the reviews!
Yes, the solid fabric is on the inside 👍
I guess it’s expensive as you didn’t mention cost.
£500 plus £35 footprint 👍
@@BackpackingUK Thanks. Expensive…
Are you sure inside measurements
They are approximate dimensions taken from me using a tape measure. I don't think Nortent provide internal dimensions.
@@BackpackingUK they do there site says 90
From the looks of it, the internal width is 75cm (I said measured 80cm), height 107cm (I said over 1m) and length 210cm (I measured 210cm too).
It's a big tent for one man.
Great bit of marketing. Make a 2 man tent and sell it as the world's largest solo tent😂😂😂
Why not 6 doors?
Agreed, they could have gone much further with the doors, especially when you’ve got all the guys.
Drop the yellow and go back to white and I'll buy one,
230 meters wide 🤯 Take my money it's bigger than my house !
Heavy that
Ca 3,6 kg for 1 person? What is it made of? Steel?
Its a proper 4 season tent
It's really cool looking but waaayyy too heavy.
And the price is?😂
Why make a two man tent with a one man inner.
Na not for me you could get a terra 3 man blizzard for that price lighter and bigger
At 4kg all in. No thank you. That, regardless of it's build and capabilities, is far far too heavy.
If it was around 1500g, then i would pay upwards of £500.
The biggest question is, have Nortent learnt a single thing from the mess that was the Vern 1 (2024) release...
This is the second RUclipsr review I've seen in 20 minutes. Here we go again, I hope not.
