    His dad was my Doctor and a very nice guy, and Bobby went to my school. So... he's from a time I remember.
    Nothing is simple in life, and I believe Springboks give it their all.
    Thanks man.

    Great interview with Bobby, always well spoken. Pity his injuries and other off field issues limited his time with the Boks.

    Suffered against Bob all the way through school. He was on another level and it was a privilege to witness even as he made us look silly.

    Great interview again Peter. I was fortunate enough to produce the audio visual hype with the Stormers Men in Black campaign, as well as for Western Cape Tourism (they were ambassadors) and the day we overran Ratanga Junction on a Sunday the day before schools opened (ie the most people ever to attend the theme park on one day) My wife used to say, I'll watch the rugby with you on TV, but I have to put on lipstick if Bob is playing (yeah, he personally likes to be called Bob and not Bobby) Love your channel !!

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  3 дня назад

      Thanks Etienne!
      Yes, that Men in Black era was great ... I was in high school in 1999 and you can just imagine how enjoyable it was for my friends and I.
      Interesting one on the Bob/Bobby matter. So before we began I asked him what he would prefer and he said either one is fine. At that point I referenced the Men In Black and WP's 1997 Currie Cup win and told him to people like me he'll always be "Bobby".
      Love the story about your wife and the lipstick!
      Really appreciate the kind words on my channel! Cheers and have a great 2025!

    I surprised that some people make hateful comments; "can't stand him", all show etc, if that was the case, why ever selected and involved in brilliant Bok tries etc? Ignorant comments never fail to disappoint me!

      Hi Mike, Yeah, I'm not impressed by some of it myself to be honest. I sometimes wonder, why not just keep quiet?
      That said in the interest of free speech and dialogue I keep most of the stuff up but when it becomes racist or personally insulting then I remove it.

    Bob Skinstad lost the 1999 World Cup for us, if it wasn't for him and playing so well as an impact player, Gary Teichmann would've still been captain in 1999.

      Got to give credit to a great Australian team who won it in extra time. The semi-final could have gone either way and Larkham was the difference.

      If he wasn't so good, we wouldn't have lost
      Got it. 🙄
      We lost 1 game to an awesome Oz team, by a late drop kick.
      We crow about being great when we win by a point but call players crap when we just lose by 1.

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  5 дней назад

      I remember Bobby Mania well!
      I think what should have happened was Bobby remaining as an impact player in 1999 with Teich as the captain.
      Then Teich would have retired and Bobby would have become the starting eighthman in 2000.

      Still never seen a loose forward play as skilled and with as much speed as him. Like Sasha he was on his own level but understandably rushed. Similarly, I think we all need to take a chill pill with Sasha. Gradually build him up.

    Bobby had one of the best seasons ever ..98 was his absolute peak going into 99..then thr Canterbury post match scuffle happened and the accident..never reached those dizzy heights and was mediocre at best after the injury.

      Cheers Jacques. I always try to be as authentic as I can be. I believe people can easily tell when you are being fake. Yes, I'm a trained journalist but this is also how I am. If I had to start trying to be funny for example I'm sure you'd immediately pick up that it's all an act. Someone else also once told me to be more "blokey" but I told him the truth is I'm a bit of a nerd. What you see on the camera, is how I am in real life. I'm not the life of the party but I'd like to believe I'm a good guy to have as a friend!

    Correct me if I’m wrong , Bobby eventually became a world champion on 2007 coming in for a cameo in the final ?
    Great player and it was a tough time to be on the bench in the late 90s, interesting he mentioned Rassie as someone who may have learnt from that time on how to use substitutes
    Makes a lot of sense
    As always , wonderful interview

    • @frontrowrugby
      @frontrowrugby  4 дня назад +1

      Hi Stephen. I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video and leave a comment so I'm also going to try to explain something to you.
      I could make the best video ever but if no one watches it then it will mean nothing. Similarly someone could make a terrible video but has a great thumbnail or title and manages to get millions of people to watch it!
      RUclips's algorithm then thinks that my videos suck and recommends my stuff to fewer people. If that happens then my channel will never grow.
      So what I'm trying to do is create enticing thumbnails and titles - I accept that they might be a little theatrical here and there but that's how this game is played, for better or for worse.
      I think I make really nice videos that people enjoy watching but I have to also be able to get people to click on them to start watching in the first place.
      Hope that makes sense to you.
