    **Read The Description**
Lava flow at Kilauea volcano Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
    Panasonic GH5.
    Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 35-100mm f/2.8 II POWER O.I.S. Lens.
    Filmed at 200 iso.
Sennheiser MKE 440 Compact Stereo Shotgun Microphone.
This isn't a technical review. There are plenty of those posted on RUclips. I'm just showing how well the GH5 handled the tricky lava flows that night and morning. The flow area was quite active and the heat made me cut many clips short.
I was trying out various focus settings so, there are times I keep the camera filming while changing compositions to show how well the GH5 adjusts.
Often I used the touchscreen to manually change the focus.
    It worked great.
Also, the AFC worked great 99% of the time.
There were situations where the intense heat waves proved too much for that setup but, that's a tough situation for any camera and normally I'd use a different method.
    Again, these were test clips.
It was also very windy but, the dual I.OS. handled it just fine.
I posted this in the 4K 60fps because it would be an injustice to render at 1080p. The 4K is spectacular in comparison.
The only editing was a slight increase in both the saturation and contrast. 5% - 10%.
The GH5 can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be. The filming options are endless. Beautiful images too.
Watch full screen and look for the intricate little changes in the flows.
    61g lava flow.
Thanks for subscribing and watching. Many more videos to come.
Be patient. What I do isn't always easy.
    My usual warning.
Do not attempt to do what I do.
I have 26 years of experience and I know what I'm doing out there.
So many things can go wrong for those who don't understand or can't recognize the dangers of a volcanic eruption.
Stay away and watch my videos instead.
Having said my usual warning, let me add that this flow is accessible via bike and hikes of at least 8-9 miles round trip.
Expect large crowds of people. Be sure to carry at least 3 liters of water per person.
Always use extreme caution at the sea cliffs and never walk out onto new land as it could easily collapse into the ocean taking you with it.
As the bench grows the immediate sea cliff will be vulnerable to collapse also.
I highly recommend you watch this HVNP safety video on safety at ocean entries.
    lavapix.com/#/p....
Also, it's best not to breathe if you find yourself engulfed in the steam plume. If you think you will be in it often, be sure to wear a respirator or at the very least cover your mouth and nose with a shirt or similar when breathing.

Thank you. Considering at the time this was shot the GH5 was brand new to me and I was mainly testing focus settings I was very happy with the results. As for the animals in this current eruption, they're smarter than you might think. Also, just as curious about the flows as humans too. I've seen wild pigs make their way all around and over active flows quite easily. Yes, some will get trapped in the current situation due to the speed and size of the flow but, overall they are surviving until help can arrive. You'd be amazed at how well nature carries on with its daily stuff in active lava flow areas. Thanks for your kind words and for watching...

I can't watch this without the feeling of someone yelling at me telling me to get back from standing too close to the lava.

Bryan, I enjoy watching your videos quite a bit. The picture quality/sound is great in my opinion, as is your overall work.
Question: is it okay to make a recommendation? My intent isn't to offend. My thought is too maybe pan back a bit vs the
super close ups so as to give a better perspective? Again, it's only my opinion; *it's your work, and decision.*
*Keep up the good work, and stay safe.* Thanks.

First, thank you for your kind words. No problem offering up suggestions. People do it often. I never take offense.
I believe in this video I do pan out after sunrise but only briefly because a large tour group was nearby. I prefer not to have people in my videos if possible.
Another reason for shooting close up is usually the situation I'm in. Maybe the surrounding area isn't all that great for wider shots or there are people nearby etc...
I really like the close-ups showing the intricate details of the flowing and cooling flows.
I do have several videos shot showing the entire area when appropriate. Both at the ocean entries and inland flows. Also up at Puu Oo vent.
Having said all of that, the volcano stopped 2 years ago and it could be many more years before it erupts again.
I was just getting the GH5 dialed in too. When I shot this video I think I only had the camera for a day or two so, there were lots yet to learn on how best to use it vs my usual Nikons.
Like the manual focus via the fold-out touch screen. I was doing quick scouting & familiarizing myself with the GH5 system prepping for an advertisement shoot for Panasonic 4 days later. I shot what they requested at that time.
Again, suggestions are fine. Usually, if I shot something in a particular way it was due to circumstances that offered few options :-)
      Thanks for watching...

So that's what lava sounds like. Neat!

Why does it sound like that? I love the sound it makes but why does it make it?

    • @lavapix
      @lavapix  4 года назад +15

Its the surface cooling rapidly and the force of the underlying liquid lava making it crack or flake depending on the volume of flowing lava. It mimics the sound of burning wood in a campfire. Hissing sounds are small amounts of burning gases being released. Thanks for watching...

Amazing and Beautiful. What was causing the sounds?

    • @lavapix
      @lavapix  3 года назад

The outer layers cooling and then the expanding fluid core causing the outer layer to flake off. It's a common sound at pahoehoe lava flows. Thanks for watching...
