Bhajan is devotional song, consisting, pallavi , anupallavi and charanam. Bhajans are part of hindustani music, which has been adopted to Bharathanatyam a few decades ago. The dancer will present a Bhakti Rasa Bhajan in praise of Lord shiva.The song is in Khandachappu tala, and Brindavani Sarang Raga.
The meaning of the lyrics are as follows.
OH! the beautiful one, who has a serpent around his neck , who is ferocious in appearance. The holy ganga flows from his matted hair, while Gowri sits pleasantly on his lap. The one who adorns himself with Vibhoothi. Lord shiva I offer my namaskara to you.
Even though Shiva wears the garland of skulls, yet he is soft nature at heart for his devotees. Let us all say “ Shiva Shiva” and sing in his praise, the one who destroyed the magical city and demon Tripurasura.
The one who travels on Nandi, appears beautiful and the Nandi, the vehicle of Shiva, moves around the world carrying him. I offer him a garland made from my hands. The one who plays damaru in his hands, I offer my salutations.
This dance is presented by Nidhi Shashikumar , a senior student of Sri Veena Narthana Shaale , Bengaluru.
