this bears team is one of the most underrated teams of the 21st century. ive heard the legendary 2006 afc championship called “the de facto super bowl” and whenever people talk about this team its usually something along the lines of “the nfc was so bad the bears got to the super bowl with rex grossman!” in reality, they were probably the most complete team in the league, finishing in the top 3 in both points scored and fewest points allowed. sexy rexy may have been notoriously inconsistent, but when he was on, this team had no weaknesses
That last thing you said is what was key, Grossman’s infamous inconsistency. I’m not even a Bears fan, but it’s a tragedy that their 2005 and 2006 teams didn’t accomplish more than they did. That Bears defense was absolutely stellar both seasons, no weak links at all, a flat out championship caliber defense. They had a good offensive line, Thomas Jones was a more than solid running back and Cedric Benson complimented him well, their receivers were decent, Robbie Gould was clutch on field goals, and in 2006 they drafted the greatest return specialist in NFL history. The one area where they fell short was also the most important position on the field, the quarterback. They didn’t even need an elite quarterback, if the Bears would have had just a Joe Flacco or a 2010s Alex Smith type of quarterback, just a guy who could manage the game and occasionally make a throw when necessary, the Bears would have won a Super Bowl.
If Mike Brown and Tommie Harris are healthy this team beats the Colts and wins the Superbowl. Pre injuries to Harris and Brown they gave up an average of 12.5 ppg through 12 games, with 31 of those in the 4th quarter in garage time after the Bears had pulled their starters/played very soft coverage. You can attribute another 21 points off Grossman pick 6's and many turnovers giving opponents great field position. Those 2 key injuries turned an all time defense into simply a good defense. They win inspite of Grossman's bipolar play. That D was special and coming off a year they allowed 11.2 ppg before resting their starters week 17.
@@markmamola7167 They scored 22 offensive points, 6 of them on a play that never happens if Harris and Brown are on the field. Bears were giving up 12.5 ppg through week 13, before Harris went down. Brown went down week 6. That includes Grossman turnovers directly leading to opponent points. Post Harris injury over 24 ppg. The pass rush suffered big time. They went from class of the league to a defense good enough to win a weak NFC.
Omg thank you! I have been waiting for years for more of the 2006 Bears games to be put up on RUclips. The Monday night Arizona game has been up forever and the playoff games have been up forever but the only other regular season games Have been few and far between. Every other freaking year there's a ton of games but the one that the bears go to Super Bowl they have the least amount of games for. Is anyway awesome for posting if you have any more of the 2006 gamesIt would be much appreciated for you to post those also. Thank you.

As a bears fan I disagree. Manning still tears us apart. Tampa 2 defense is easy to attack if you know how and his coach was the inventor.

@@markmamola7167 Except that they didn't tear us apart even with them missing..
@@chicagodude8888 I wonder if we would have won the Super Bowl with Orton in. Grossman did nothing besides fumble snaps, fall down and throw pics.
