As someone who lives in the middle of nowhere Australia with no local hobby store or games workshop, being able to get some of these unique miniatures online seems really cool
@CaptinCrofty that's the one glorious thing about a standalone GW store. You can order anything and have shipped to shop even like $20 (for Canada atleast) But your still going to have to order it online/prepay And they tend to have the basics (paints, starter boxes, combat patrols and some popular heros - Grimaldus for example)
I'm glad they are doing this, at Warhammer Fest a few weeks ago people were buying as many of the event exclusive minis as they could carry to no doubt overcharge people on eBay for. Little bit of karma that you will be able to essentially order one at the end of each year for those who couldn't make it to an event, hopefully cutting the scalpers out!
The worst are the scalpers that don’t even put in much of an effort. They employ AI to buy the models for themselves and then wake up the next morning to sell them with the same ease as making morning coffee.
LMAO i saw some dude carrying like 20 of The Commisar's Duty exclusive model and then they just immediately restocked the shelf like idk what he thinks he's doing with em
yeah with this, scalpers are only gonna have a few months window to sell thsoe at whatever high price for those who want them sooner. I along with Im sure a good majority of us dont mind waiting to be able to get cool exclusives like this. Its a nice gesture by GW I gotta giver it to em
Totally agree with the comments about Pedro Kantor and Gabriel Seth. Having painted both of those armies a number of years ago - I loved painting those heroes. Particularly Seth. The primaries stuff I do love, but it does feel like they lack the flavour of the first born chapter boxes for squad.
You're partially wrong about Forge World. FW and the Specialist Games Dept are the same thing these days, so FW are doing Horus Heresy, The Old World, Titanicus, Aeronauticus, Necromunda, Bloodbowl - rules, models etc. On the other note: I prefer games that don't follow WYSIWYG - Corespace being a prime example, as throughout the missions you find equipment that you might want to swap your current gear out with - not that gear is wildly different in this game like it can be with 40k, infinity etc... but the progression from a trash pistol to a shotgun etc makes you change up the play style.
I live miles and miles from a store here in the uk. This move is great. Gives me the chance of grabbing these minis and hopefully damages the scalpers.
Hey Jay, sorry if this is a noob question, but I'm having trouble finding a good brush for painting small details on my Space Marines. I'm a big fan of your tutorials and was wondering if you could share your favorite paint brush brands and any tips you have for maintaining them. Thanks for your help!
DaVinci Kolinsky Sable as Beginner, W&N or Rafael Red Sable once u got better. Also cheap make up brushes for drybrushing. Rinse lukewarm with soap and massage careful with fingertips when too much old color built up. The standard brushes should be small medium large to cover all sizes of possible work, thick body but pointy tip. Good Luck with ur first steps in this awesome hobby and welcome ✌️
30k community is one of the most 3d printer friendly communities because of how expensive it is. A quarter of the vehicles I saw at adepticon were printed.
It is almost guaranteed that they have been running nothing but 10th on as many lines as they can for the last 3 months and will be for another 10 or 15 days. As soon as the pre-order is done they will re-arrange their lines to back-fill. Currently any lines that aren't running 10th are more than likely the upcoming releases for the next 2 codex armies for QA, Marketing, and pre-stock for time to volume calculation.
Think the reason Forge World exists is the high cost of plastic tooling, if it is an item that only a few people might buy it isn't worth the tooling costs. But resin molds are much cheaper so allow them to offer more niche models. So you are paying more in theory as resin casting is more labour intensive and are done in smaller runs. And additional Games Workshop magic pricing reasons.
I was so excited when the Legion Falchion, Fellblade and Glaive vanished from the Forgeworld site. Having seen the Sicaran tanks re released in plastic I assumed the bigger vehicles were going the same way but no, they just came back way more expensive. I’d have one of each if they were plastic but no way in resin. Hopefully we will see the other Cerastus Knights in plastic though.
Video games are *not* better. The last thing I want in my game time is another screen As far as the game design question, I really like the simplicity of “this is my model, the rules are here” instead of “which gun did you put on that thing?” However, I love the fact I have so many choices in a GW kit. From a modeling and hobby perspective I like the options and WYSIWYG…. Up until I want to try the other rules.
For the price of one Mastodon you could also get six A Song of Ice and Fire Starter Boxes, meaning you and five friends could instantly get into wargaming. I know, apples and pears, but the latter option will give you more plastic, dice and fun for your buck for sure.
The Mastodon Super-Heavy tank is like 12 inches long. It's the largest tank currently made by GW. Not saying it's worth that much but it is a massive tank.
As someone who gets to go to events where you get these minis I think that is only a good thing. If you go to the event you can get it earlier than those who don't but those who don't can still get them and there's an option to bring them back in future made to orders for newer players after that first one
you say that they wont remake the resin tanks they retooled because theyve been retooled however they retooled the old caidian kit then like 6mths(? honestly dont know if it was longer than that) later we got new caidians
I understand that games workshop is making bank what the prices that they're putting up, but as a person who's used to d&d and buying miniatures from a range of $1 to about 12 at my local game shop. I looked at the Warhammer section and I was completely horrified, I just wish there would be some sets that would be a little more accessible based on price.
As someone who lives in one of those parts of Europe that does have GW stores but would need to plan a full UK holiday to get event models, I fully support this move. Let me buy that 2021 chaos warrior already
I want to find a guide on how to do decals on imperial guard, but exactly how it’s supposed to be done on the fluff. I know such a supplement probably exists, im just not sure where it’s at
I really like Star Wars Legion for that, all though the squad has its own rules, the individuality comes from having upgrade units, like the rocket launcher dude for droids.
I will be getting a Khan on bike, but that is because my old one is missing... And I have a shelf with Chapter Maters and Characters that I have converted myself...that kit is old, but it is also extremely easy to kitbash to high hell
It is painfully obvious that GW needs to look at doing their snap fit single pose kits through a more High volume maker in ABS (Bandai, Tamiya) and Citadel should be doing the smaller more details and option rich kits in house. This also let's them reduce the cost of entry massively without messing with their bottom line at all; while also giving them the ability to have the super expensive bespoke models from the Core Line.
@@Albinospenguin Oh I get it, it is just baffling the shear amount of money and wasted sprues that get left behind because they don't understand the True Market. They should be changing their business model now, ahead of what is about to happen to the gaming world over the next several years. The means to production no longer lie with the corporations, and we get to keep capitalism...I am not sure if you know how huge that is. It is more transformative than the PC was to the work place. People will spend that kind of money on plastic toy soldiers, but it isn't going to be from GW unless they change their pricing and fulfillment model. Its pretty simple economics, and the latest batch of consumer grade Resin and FDM printers are beyond economical to the injection molding technology...and the technology STARTED from the open source market and can thus NEVER be locked behind some mythical paywall or barrier to market entry. Demand for custom goods is only ever going to increase so long as the economy increases, that is precisely how a stable capitalism sustains long slow growth...as opposed to constant massively overpriced FOMO bull shit that ends up ultimately being a shortsighted cash grab falling well short of expectation.
I don't know if I agree, Jay. If a game is too hard to learn and has too many overlapping special case rules, then maybe it's not a very good game? Is your game "system" successful at representing the game situation if you need hundreds of special case rules?
What's extra-fascinating is that Forge World (according to people who do resin sculpts/manufacturing for a living) use the oldest possible method for producing resin miniatures...while...conversely, using 3D master prints to produce the sculpt. So instead of...just 3D printing Forgeworld stuff on really nice printers (which GW could absolutely afford to do)...they stick to ancient resin methods which produce really poor quality models, and then charge you an eye-watering sum. Forgeworld is comically bad.
I love the event only stuff being online. There’s no way I can goto an even and I’m hours away from a store. I really want some of those models, primaris company champion for one, and second hand for 300% mark up is the only way I can get one as of right now
"Plastic is perfect"- yes, but creating tools for injection molding is really expensive. In the age of 3d printing they should have all those ancient minis available as made-to-order 3d prints. That should be faster and cheaper than both plastic and resin cast.
It’s sucks coz I’m a Horus heresy fan boy and I originally started painting 40k and then I went all in on 30k… it’s kinda ridiculous in price difference.. the plastic refresh is a game changer tho.
A calendar would be better so that people can make sure to have funds for things they want to purchase. GW is potentially losing sales by catching some people off guard because they didn't know that really cool thing they always wanted was going to be available and they won't be able to afford to buy it. But if they had known, GW wouldn't have lost the sale.
i would argue the exclusivity was the problem with these models also with character models being often sculpts who are difficult to find for example a necron lord with a rez orb and staff of light was annoying to me. So the stuff being more available is great.
The exclusivity thing is the same as fomo in video games. "Buy now, going fast!" has been a marketing tactic for all time. Its only an improvement to greaten the amount being offered.
IMO pre orders should start wicked early as in MONTHS before they actually release. The point of a pre order should be to ensure you’ll get the product in anticipation of a busy launch.
I am SO hapy they are doing this, I really wanted this model but I had no chance to get it, the only option would be ebay, bugger those scalpers. I hate forge world, it sucks.
I personally like the change I might have the money to attend these events if I wanted to but don’t have the time and I would prefer not to have to resort to eBay prices for these. Personally if I could choose I’d have them be exclusive for a year and at maybe the start of the new year while nothing new is being released have a made to order batch of the event exclusive models from the last several years incase someone couldn’t attend an event or joined the hobby after the event the company can still make money off an investment and event goers still get some exclusivity for a time.
If you dont already have it i have a copy of the Horus Heresy Age of Darkness rule book I could send you. Ive only looked through it a couple times but otherwise brand new
I would hope by event miniatures they are including bday exclusives and general anniversary models. Im still upset I never got the Necron exclusive models from a couple years ago so I hope those become available. Also this benefits those who dont have the fortune of having a local WH store or gaming store that may carry them, that now may be able to. Definiteloy will never see these current hero modesl ever again after this. I guarantee a majority of them will be getting new scuplts either in plastic or resin
Dear gods GW, bring back Chaplain in Terminator Armour. I'm set, I have a couple different ones... but holy smoke: the most popular line, the most popular sub-line, the most popular character model... and it isn't even available. What is wrong in your brain? Hahahah.
Given that unique character sculpts are at a price premium due to selling fewer and requiring a mould being cut the entire concept of making them 'limited editions' is dumb. The more people can buy them the better.
The Necromunda Beast trainer is on preorder now. One guy, two big worms US$72!! WTF are they thinking? It's not even like those guys are super cool or anything.
forgeworld seems like a hangover where they just keep producing small volumes of resin kits and they cant get rid of it because it is moderately profitable and there would be a shitstorm if they just deleted all the models at once
The article yesterday talking about models leaving FW states they do intend long term on moving forgeworld to primarily titans or other things that are simply impractical to make part of the line. This gives me hope for more plastic Custodes but also suggests to me that they do intend to eventually shut down most of what forgeworld is
As a baseline exclusive models only make sense when sold in a phyiscal store. Online exclusivity should not exist... especially when they are 'made to order'. Made to order models should work with a counter,.. made when no# orders are reserved/payed for. On the topic of FW... that should have been out of business years ago. They should be ashamed to sell products with that lack of quality control.
Forge world is perfectly positioned to pivot to the printing community, even if it’s just rare stuff that they’ll never make for mainline warhammer and some community stuff could be so sweet
Basically that’s it. 30k = Horus Heresy and is a game in the same setting as 40k, just much earlier. The rule books are different in the sense I can’t bring a 40k army and codex to a 30k game or vice versa, but many units are playable in either system with the rules of that system.
30k is expensive because it’s marketed to 40+ year old players who played 40k in 2nd edition; people who are typically established in their careers and likely have the money to spend.
Forge world will be doing plastic units wonder if that includes vehicles ~ "When we add new units in future, they will almost always be in plastic - and there are a lot of plastic kits on the way over the next few years!"
I think if GW has the molds they might as well use them and bring back old faves giving us more variety. Although I understand some might want exclusives. $600 and what!?? Does anyone know people who spend their retirement fund at forgeworld!?? 😱
The stock problems are not a problem for GW... they're a marketing strategy. Better buy now. No idea when it will be back in stock. You don't want to miss out do you? Get it now, it might be gone forever... At least that's my observation from the outsider as a Tabletop wargamer who has never collected for a GW game, for a lot of reasons.
I don't like exclusives. I like early access. Not, "you can only get this model at this certain time and place (or eBay)" but rather, "you can buy this now, and everyone else can get it next year in a different box and plastic color."
The resin tanks at FW are insane and I don't understand why these are not being converted to plastic. Nobody and I mean Nobody will be picking up Mastodons or Fellblades at these absurd prices. Resin is a pain to work with to begin with and paying almost three times the amount for it when comparing it to a plastic version is beyond reasonable to me. I bought two spartans and two Leviathan Dreadnoughts when to were converted to plastic and would gladly pick up two Mastodons and two Fellblades but not in resin.
3 zoanthropes tanking my friends entire army shooting at him because he didn't want his leader to die i've never passed so many 3+ saves in my life. All of them survived with no wounds taken. They melted his leaders brain.
$610? WTF are they smoking? You can buy an entire 3D resin printer, along with everything you could possibly need to print and paint an ~entire army~, for less than that.
With 10th edits they should set it up so after it sells out they make one for anyone who still wants it BUT DOESN'T SAY SO TILL AFTER ITS SOLD OUT SO THE SCALPERS FINALLY GET THERE KARMA
Day 24 of asking for a Centurion Squad magnetization and green stuff conversion video. Once the video is made, I’ll become a top tier Patreon to get my name on the sergeant of the squad.
Me, hearing how much FW speeders cost, when mine is made from a deodorant bottle and a plastic spoon turret, sipping my tea like Miranda Cosgrove: “Interesting”
Forge wordl needs to be given less things to do not more. They should make all their games in hard plastic and give up on resin. FW resin is not good enough for the price even if it is better then it was. I would love to have all the necromunda dudes in hard plastic. more plastic and less resin is better.
I hope they bring the Lion out soon, poor kitty got scalped to hell *sings lion king song to lure him out the jungle* Its nice to see some of the 30k FW stuff being made with plastic and (surprisingly) cheaper like the scimatar jetbikes where about £30+ each now you get three for that price...love those bikes, would be nice to see the land speeder variants get a plastic version too... but all this is neither here nor there........GW should stop production on all those mini's and have a big staff meeting and figure out how to make more Lions instead I bet that big dafty Guilliman guy didn't have to put up with this poop
If I'd have paid stupid money for a 'rare' mini or been scalped sideways on EvilBay, I'd be mad as a box of frogs about this. As it happens, I'm not so for me it's great news but, yeah, typical reverse ferret (as we say in the UK) by GW, cash grabbing as ever. The plastic weapons for already infamously tricky to build kits is taking the mickey yet again. All it does is bypass the rubbish bendy/slipped/mould lined garbage they currently sell with something else to buy, as you junk your crappy weapons sets (for your £400gbp tank/transport/doorstop) at your own cost ('cos NO one wants 'em).
Having the miniatures and the physical toy from the games is always fun having those, but can always be taken away in a tragedy, why we need to save up our treasures in Heaven as the Bible says. But having the toys is better than a Minecraft USB dongle lol

ForgeryWorld
May one learn from where one can find the Rogue forgeworld? :ppp

I can print that 600$ tank for a heck of lot less than 600$ and that includes buying a new printer
How can we become part of the live studio audience?
Out of context comment but something that would be kinda cool is if GW ran a contest where they named a model off a fan or something
I almost bought into the dark eldar recast promo.. but what stopped me was the 180 days it’d take for me to get my models 😢
forgeworld seems like a hangover where they just keep producing small volumes of resin kits and they cant get rid of it because it is moderately profitable and there would be a shitstorm if they just deleted all the models at once
My printer is gonna have a field day with the mastodon
Forge world is perfectly positioned to pivot to the printing community, even if it’s just rare stuff that they’ll never make for mainline warhammer and some community stuff could be so sweet
I'd go with ruined.
I saw the prices at my LGS. They're f'ing criminal. You used to get full squads for that same amount of money.
Thats why i love being British, Get these vids at a reasonable time!
Hahaha you want rough looking modles .. try when I started - Rogue Trader era minis
I’m sure all the people that paid event exclusive prices on this model are going to be super happy about this
I’m sure the price is the same. Aside from the event ticket price, but who is going to the event only for the model?
Please excuse my ignorance but what if the difference between 30k and 40k other than the pricing aha, 30k is purely Horus of heresy?
Basically that’s it. 30k = Horus Heresy and is a game in the same setting as 40k, just much earlier. The rule books are different in the sense I can’t bring a 40k army and codex to a 30k game or vice versa, but many units are playable in either system with the rules of that system.
@@timunderbakke8756 thank you !
30k is expensive because it’s marketed to 40+ year old players who played 40k in 2nd edition; people who are typically established in their careers and likely have the money to spend.
Forge world will be doing plastic units wonder if that includes vehicles ~
"When we add new units in future, they will almost always be in plastic - and there are a lot of plastic kits on the way over the next few years!"
I know I’m getting Pedro cantor for my friend who places firstborn crimsons fists
Shame the fell blade and friends didn’t go full plastic. Missed opportunity
YEAAAAAAAAAH a 20 min video
Getting the event exclusive inquisitor is the only thing stopping me from collecting sisters
I don't like exclusives. I like early access. Not, "you can only get this model at this certain time and place (or eBay)" but rather, "you can buy this now, and everyone else can get it next year in a different box and plastic color."
like the new FW models, BUT they upped the price from before, they are just WAY to expensive.
I want this Company Champion BECAUSE I have a knight-themed Space Marine army. Not because it's "exclusive".
Don't lie Jay
You'd build some Imperial Fists Templar Brethren
Cool video jay ! I hope you'll bite the bullet and begin that 30k word bearer army :P
Please remember to like and comment to appease the almighty algorithm 😁❤️👍🏼
3 zoanthropes tanking my friends entire army shooting at him because he didn't want his leader to die i've never passed so many 3+ saves in my life. All of them survived with no wounds taken. They melted his leaders brain.
$610? WTF are they smoking? You can buy an entire 3D resin printer, along with everything you could possibly need to print and paint an ~entire army~, for less than that.
Almost ALL of the GW products (except for Warcry apparently) are feeling like "exclusive" products lately. smh
With 10th edits they should set it up so after it sells out they make one for anyone who still wants it BUT DOESN'T SAY SO TILL AFTER ITS SOLD OUT SO THE SCALPERS FINALLY GET THERE KARMA
Anything to fork over the scalpers!
I hope they bring the Lion out soon, poor kitty got scalped to hell *sings lion king song to lure him out the jungle*
Its nice to see some of the 30k FW stuff being made with plastic and (surprisingly) cheaper like the scimatar jetbikes where about £30+ each now you get three for that price...love those bikes, would be nice to see the land speeder variants get a plastic version too...
but all this is neither here nor there........GW should stop production on all those mini's and have a big staff meeting and figure out how to make more Lions instead
I bet that big dafty Guilliman guy didn't have to put up with this poop
I'd have loved picking up some of the MTO models IF THEY WERE METAL, unfortunately all but Khan will be finecast... RIP.
Exclusive. Lol. They are one 3d scan away from being just as common as regular marines.
Jay you better remake your Intro with a Redemptor.
The boxnought lives forever in our hearts and on our display shelves
@@timunderbakke8756 and in the Editions i play.
oh it devalues the exclusivity? maybe you should have bought a mini you liked
Having the miniatures and the physical toy from the games is always fun having those, but can always be taken away in a tragedy, why we need to save up our treasures in Heaven as the Bible says. But having the toys is better than a Minecraft USB dongle lol
