Ducati have forgotten it’s the buyer that decides on value for money. You can’t just call something premium and it magically becomes worth more than the competition.
I considered this, but ordered the new Triumph 800 Sport. Triumph has done the opposite, increased torque and made it lower down and very slightly decreased peak power. I prefer that for real riding.
As a current owner of a 950S I absolutely love the bike. However I think competition from other brands coupled with the inflated asking price makes me think that the value is just not there anymore in this bike.
As a V2s owner I like it, but at nearly 18k for the travel edition with all the toys & luggage (according to Ducati website) they are having a laugh. Competition is cheaper for just as much. Great review
It’s lighter, cheaper, more simple, less buzzy twin, and the torque comes on much earlier. They kind of addressed all my complaints from the V2. But being a Ducati, value compared to competition was never really something they focused on offering.
There are so many bikes in this category now and way cheaper and as capable. It’s not worth the money, 😮 Also we don’t need all the gizmos, just keep the bike basic and offer something more competitive on price. A lot of low mileage adventure bikes around save your money. Take the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro, you can pick a 2022,23 5k miles one up for £12,500 now and they were 18k new. I know I own one and an amazing motorcycle. Triumph sent its customers a survey what you want from future bikes recently, you would not believe the things they were asking would you like on future bikes, too much electronic tech. Come on manufacturers, we need two wheels, abs, an engine, clutch and throttle with good brakes and suspension thats it. 😂
Crazy Expensive! They saved weight AND for sure a lot of money while manifacturing. And please, take live am Look at the rear swing... It looks Not high end anymore! Ducati cost developer sit together in the Office and have a laugh "Yeah for 16500 they dont grt heated grips😂😂😂". If i Need to Pick one right now in Sport touring Segment: triumph tiger 660/800 Sport
I wonder if this is one of the final "premium" bikes with a sodium infused price tag of this period. A 110bhp 220kg africa twin at 12k for top spec is on my wishlist.
Think the only close competitor in terms of agility would be the KTM 890 SMT and they are about 6k cheaper but so comfortable over long distance and quick too. I love ducatis and have owned a few before but it's just too expensive for me 😢
I can't help but feel that Ducati have built a fantastic bike, but one nobody really asked for, that has been priced at such a high level you'd have to be a bit daft to buy one over the competition they have plonked it right next to (or way over). It's a bit like that famous Jurassic park phrase, just replace "Scientists" with Ducati Engineers "...
The point is you get to pay all that money for it so it must be the best thing since sliced bread. At "just" £16k its "only" the same price as a 1300GS so I can't see why anyone would buy the BMW when you can have a much smaller, slower and higher revving bike with a much more peaky delivery - surely having to rev the nuts off it is perfect for a bit of two up touring? Speaking of which another £16k bike is the Hayabusa and I can see no reason whatsoever for buying one over this either. Lord forbid someone wanting to save £5k and going for the Triumph.
@ I had an 848 and I loved it - it also wasn’t ridiculously expensive. I’m at an age where sports tourers and ADV bikes are appealing and this is a total disappointment. The 848 was never the best at anything but it had character to die for. What’s this got? A Euro 5 compliant asthmatic clone in a Japanese copy frame with some tarty plastic and overly complicated and expensive suspension? Ducati, and the others tbh, have missed the point of motorcycles. Yeah, you CAN make $25k bikes with 6 axis IMUs and electronic suspension, but who really wants them? This is why Triumph will sell a lot of Tiger 800 Sports.
@ I like Ducs as a rule but its getting more and more that they just aren't doing anything for me. The V4 is too much engine for most situations and means the bikes are heavily compromised to deal with power levels no one is going to use for more than a few seconds - especially on the nakeds. Its like they got to the 1098/1198 and pretty much ran out of ideas because since that era things have been heading in a very generic direction. Its like they are trying to become the Audi of bikes - lots of on paper performance and all the electronics but a massive price and a fairly bland experience. One of my bikes is an old 900SS. Its immaculate and well looked after. As a bike its rubbish. Its relatively slow (its the same year as the Fireblade was launched with close to 50hp less and more weight), rattly, vibrates a lot, needs cambelts and desmo services from time to time and has just enough steering lock to make you almost fall off whenever a sharp, slow turn is around. However it has so much character that as an experience it makes even the new Panigale look like utter rubbish. You can feel the throttle slides as you twist the grip, the chassis has flex but you can tell exactly what its doing and the suspension is old and basic but still does a very good job of making bends feel fun. Add to that the smell of hot metal as its mostly aircooled, the rattle of the dry clutch, the boom of an engine set up more for torque than revs and with honest exhausts pulsing away - its just better and its why most people ride bikes. Every time you ride it you get that experience and it makes you get off feeling like you've ridden a bike. On the new ones it could be pretty much any bike. Smooth, quiet, capable, soulless and about as much fun as having your teeth pulled. That being said why you would pay for a Ducati badge any more is beyond me. For a while it meant it was about as good as a bike could be but thats long gone now in favour of cost cutting and profit margins.
Looks great, great bike.. but 20 k is too much money for a bike. Unfortunately Can’t pay. Honda offer 150 hp for ten thousand. Not the same but you can have fun
Nothing on this bike that justifies that type of price. I would rather buy a late plate 1260S for a lot less money. I guess the air blasting on the legs and no heated grips, is the clue that they don't expect to sell big numbers in the UK.😀
I think Ducati are pricing bikes, for a market that no longer exists. Sales numbers and time will tell. I have a V4 Panigale now, it will be changed for something else though.
I don't like the the big front wheel on the Multi. I think it's a weird affectation, who is really riding Ducati touring bikes offroad? My 2016 Multi has a regular 17 inch front wheel and that's the way it should be.
08:09 2-3000 rpm who rides there ? In the 90's had an MZ250 (brembo caliper, avon tyres & top box) would lift front wheel from just above tickover. Rode it work & solo touring (yes) & even small trails. Quicker to 40mph than mates NC30 (+ he couldn't wheelie his). Sold it to buy a bigger bike. Wish I never had. Torque is king NOT hp which is why I ride a 30 yr old VFR750. Also don't have £16k to blow on a duck faced Italian bike. Had a 916 nice but never again.
The "Ducati tax" of being able to say you have a Ducati (similar to wafting your own farts into your open mouth when you're driving an oh-so-green Tesla) is getting out of hand. The bang for buck just isn't there
My attempt at role play ended with me accidentally calling my partner by my ex's name. Let's just say it took a while to recover from that awkward moment🧡

Beautiful bike👍🏻

I ordered one for delivery in March!
Per Ducati's website the new V2S weighs 445 lbs without fuel. Did it really lose almost 20 kilos from last year?
Nice bike, good review! Well done

Thanks for the review, so it would be interesting to see a back to back with the outgoing model to see which you guys prefer?

Interesting to compare with Tiger 900 GT Pro
Dang, that finish is lush. Pity about the peaky engine, but I guess some will like that.
Sorry Ducati the S is priced right in the s1000XR territory. No question which one I'd go with.
This was a contender for me until i put the extras on , the new tracer is better value look forward to the test

Very in-depth question, do you counter steer only in those conditions please?
Is it a 17" front wheel or 19" please
19
Wonder if no one is riding the Panigale V2 first is because they are tweaking the engine/maps/? due to the less power complaints?

Really vastly prefer the design architecture and execution over the V4 monster the power of which is beyond the abilities of most of the human race.

Quoted tank range is just over 200 miles, in reality how much will it be?
More agile and flickable than theTiger 800 Sport?
This is what I'd love to know as well
Im gonna do that, go to a bike shop and try to buy a bike with my passion for motorcycles, maybe i can get 3 our 4 bikes 😋
So you just did the review on the new triumph 800 sport and it's looking like the triumph 800 will be a much better option over this one.
It’s not a desmo and doesn’t have a trellis frame? Then what’s the point? It’s like a 4 cylinder Mustang.

10:52 Having "Ducati" on the side of a bike has never not once increased the value of a bike unfortunately. These bikes still depreciate horrifically
It does for some people...
Doesn’t sound d too different from the Testastretta.
Who needs torque from 2k? Lol this guy!
Looks great, great bike.. but 20 k is too much money for a bike. Unfortunately Can’t pay. Honda offer 150 hp for ten thousand. Not the same but you can have fun

Like someone else said for 18K I mean you can pick up a 2020 BMW GSA 1250 here in the States and mint condition with low miles for about 15k.
Say what’s you want but if you put an Africa, Tiger and a Multistrada next to each other we all know 10/10 what anyone would pick.
I don't like the the big front wheel on the Multi. I think it's a weird affectation, who is really riding Ducati touring bikes offroad? My 2016 Multi has a regular 17 inch front wheel and that's the way it should be.
Reminds me of the Suzuki V-Strom, and not in a good way.

It should lower automatically as you approach a stop. A button? C'mon???

@4:33 😂
Nice bike but way over priced...
Its not 20 kg litghter in reality ready to ride with full gas it will be 10-12 maks
Untill front is not 17, i am not interested
Looks too much like previous one, also didn't like the cow-poop green color
