This is my story until I met my wife. She was white and halfway through dating she told me she was conservative. I couldn’t believe it. I had a view of conservatives and never thought one would date a black guy. That opened my mind a little and then the left went crazy and I was pushed fully into conservatism. Truth is a lot of black people are conservative and don’t know because the indoctrination is so strong.

that last statement is so true among Hispanics/Latinos as well, most of us were raised in conservative families but then democrats and their deceptive manipulative tactics flash a shiny object (green cards/welfare) and people forget their moral values, is actually sad 😔

It's not just black people. Even thirty years ago western schools were generally churning out angry leftists. It's a little worse now...OK a lot worse. But it's the same thing. I myself went through a long period of basically detoxing myself intellectually after leaving school. Just drowning in cog diss because the reality around me was so different from the indoctrination. Years and years trying to work out basic shit someone might have told me earlier. As a young man I first had the Clinton years, with a flaming commie, allegedly, in the White House. But everything just got worse and worse. Then W was dumped on my head with all his crazy shit, and that seemed to confirm my brainwashing. In 2008 I was still basically a cynical leftist. Obama really destroyed what little remained of it. The man wasn't a leftist even. He was a pure fascist with his disgusting PPPs everywhere, and particularly in Michigan. Disgusting man.
Anyway, blacks seem to be a special case with the Democrats in the USA, though. Like 95% or something one way is statistically anomalous. Particularly when you consider that it was Democrats who actually did most of the bad stuff people are complaining about. Slavery, the KKK, segregation and voting unanimously against the Civil Rights Act repeatedly was all Democrats, so why do black people vote for them?
It's just a weird, weird thing.

I had a leftist friend who complained about Trump day in and day out, even months after he left office. The guy literally blamed Trump for everything that's wrong in his life. I suppose it is the easy way out because then you don't have to take responsibility for your own actions once you have a publicly approved scapegoat...

things I noticed from having "woke" friends in the past is that they constantly make terrible life choices, are always miserable, and blame everyone else for their problems.

Also, what I've noticed about woke friends, is that they live in a La la land, and mostly have mental problems and try to be "proud" of sth they didn't even earn. Tbh, I'm 26 and I've never met any reasonable person that is younger than 23.(not saying there's none) I used to talk to some 20 y.o, i asked if he works somewhere, and he said that job is for slaves, and I'm 100% sure that he lives with his parents and being a dick to them.

If the flaw of the modern far left lies in over emotional arguments and logical fallacies grounded on emotions and magical thinking for complex economical and sociopolitical problems… the flaw of the modern right, exemplified by the daily wire crowd, is oversimplification of complex topics and societal/economic/cultural/political issues into black and white thinking, hyper individualist thinking, pushing problems under the rug, trying to push overly simplistic solutions for complex problems in an effort to pander to the most common denominator (ignorant or uneducated people who won’t know better, in other words, easy populism and easy votes).
Also, the modern US right is rife with extremist religious drivel and beliefs, which are anything but fact based or rational. The aim? Seduce a wide audience of easily influenced, lost and vulnerable people who are angry with something going badly in their life (oftentimes out of their own wrongdoing or bad decisions)… and find an easy external target to put the blame on, a scapegoat to “liberate” them from the weight of responsibility or the weight of questioning the people who truly make life hard for them (the 0.1% richest, the billionaires running the banks and corporations, etc).
“All your problems in life are because of the [insert scapegoat group here]. Join our cult, and you too will be free from the burden of rationality, critical thinking and education. The woke crowd is responsible for inflation going crazy and high rent prices! The libruls are responsible for you not being able to afford house mortgage payments in this day and age! The BLM and lgbtq are preying on your children, your children are suffering because of them and definitely not because of the bad state of the economy, the predatory practices of psychopaths is high positions of economic power in our society… no, it is the fault of [x scapegoat]. It is not fact-based as much as cult mentality, mixed in with religious fanaticism and a light sprinkle of authoritarian ideals. That is the modern American media alt-right.
And before you call me a leftist: I am not a leftist. I despise the left just as much for their hypocrisy and inability to act on real life issues and manners in a practical, pragmatic and rational/logical manner most of the time. I also despise virtue signalling for narcissistic reasons, like trying to “appear” as a good person and rack up those likes on social media… but when those people do nothing of substance to actually help those that are affected by the issues instead of complaining, then I despise them as hypocrites.
But the modern alt-right media fanaticism is no better. Oftentimes, they are just as hypocritical and blinded by their own willful ignorance: the only difference with the insufferable far left is that the rich grifter rightoids are unabashedly unashamed of saying blatantly false and preaching overly simplistic solutions for everything that exists, since it makes recruiting of their cult of followers way easier by promising them “the promised la la land where everything will be alright and you will be HAPPY and BLISSFUL every waking moment… if you embrace our unfiltered ideology of extreme narcissism and egoism, the Ayn Rand way of life, ALTRUISM IS FOR SUCKERS! It is an amalgam soup of contradictions and irrationality. Everything the modern right in the US preaches goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ himself. Yet the false prophets like Peterson are astute in that they turn that logic upside down: they demonize those that practice altruism and strive for better social services for the poor and needy, and preach a gospel elevating money and materialism and opulence and narcissism as cardinal values that is what Jesus supposedly truly meant. It is an interesting Machiavellian tactic that has worked for decades now, before it was Fox News and their grossly paid psychopathic anchor hosts doing the dirty work of inverting Jesus’ teachings into their own twisted narrative of : “hate thy neighbour, only look out for yourself, hate the poor and the needy and the sick, egoism egoism egoism.” It’s laughable how insane and contradictory it is. But 90%+ of self proclaimed Christians haven’t even read the Bible, so it isn’t surprising so many today are still conned everyday into joining the cult.
I was a moderate leftist too and started laughing about Trump and conservatives, but then I also noticed all the hate from the left, it was so over the top that I realised that's not what I believe in, I did start to research and now I'm conservative as well .. luckily I woke up ^^

Trump was my eye opener, I hated Trump because mainstream media brainwashed me into thinking I had to hate him. I watched some clips that were not careful edited by leftist media and slowly realised that the media had been lying the whole time. I started watching Larry Elder, Ben Shapiro and the rest is history.

Same Donald Trump is the reason I am embracing my conservative values. I regret to say I was just as brainwashed, I had not many but one extremely liberal class that when I would come home from college I told my parents how much I couldn’t stand America, and voted for Hilary sadly in the 2016 election. But by the grace of God Donald Trump won, and I began to feel unsettled with the ideology of the Left. Like I was just parroting back words that weren’t mine. Long story short a conversation with my Dad about “how at some point tolerance becomes intolerant” and how even those who are deemed “intolerant” have just as much rights to freedom and democracy was the seed planted and all through the last four years I listened to Ben Shapiro still considering myself as an independent, but his ‘good Trump’ bad ‘Trump’ take made me at last neutral about Trump’s presidency early on. And finally in the last year leading up to the 2020 election I saw just how much his administration did for the country how we were able to face the pandemic because of him and I am proud to say I voted for Trump in 2020. Now I am choosing slowly to reveal my true values to people, at least those who are mature enough to understand what it means to actually be a conservative and who aren’t raging liberals hellbent on destroying my career opportunities if the see I don’t fit their suffocating mold.

@@katherinecampbell9792 It took a lot of courage initially to come out as conservative, at the same time I felt like a massive weight has been lifted off me.
I'm personally left-leaning, because the values of it align more with my own, and that's a choice I made for myself. A lot of my family are more conservative, but there's a mix. We all respect each other's beliefs though.
That said, the radical leftists terrify me, genuinely. The further they keep creating rules and divides, the "less left" I'm starting to feel. There's a lot that I don't agree with, and they really make you feel ashamed for not going along with everything they say. It's exhausting. I literally just want to stick to what I believe in, and not have to be told that I need to ALSO believe in X, Y and Z so I don't get ostracised by at least 50% of the world.
While I don't completely agree with Amala about a lot of things, I have a lot of respect for her for finding herself and deciding that she wasn't going to be spoon-fed so many new made up ideologies anymore. I don't know if she has many leftist subscribers, but I'm definitely one. It's refreshing to actually hear a different take for once.

I am not a conservative or a liberal but I used to be extremely far left that I was offended by everything (white people, straight people, “cisgendered people,” America, Christianity etc.) however, now that I’ve opened myself up to conversation about other angles, I’ve toned down 100 million percent and have shifted my roots and my beliefs more to the right side. Even though I do still have a lot of liberal point of views, I respect and see myself following more right views.

American Conservatives that follow the Constitution and Founding Fathers are Liberal in context of European and Intl perspective/point of reference, but Leftists are Liberals in the context of American political history. It's a matter of relative perspective. Radical Socialists and Marxists would be better, but you'll never get the news or academia to agree to any common or logical vernacular. Deconstruction and revisionism is their bread and butter.

My lightbulb moment was actually after covid too, I started seeing how radicalized people were getting in the “shared” beliefs we had that I just couldn’t defend it anymore.
Especially when I started pointing out to people how some things that they were doing were morally wrong, and realized that not only no one else saw it but I was now the new “threat” and the new enemy for pointing it out and qe weren’t friends anymore

It definitely is tough. Liberalism was all I knew. All my friends are liberal. Even my cats were Democratic! A few weeks ago, a 'friend' asked whether I was woke and am I willing to admit l'm racist. I knew him for 30 years. He should have known I was not racist. From there, I started questioning my beliefs. I also feel relief that my life is finally on track.

I am 32 and relate more to my dead grandfather who.was born in the early 1920s, because from what I know he was a man. Yeah no, conservatives don’t believe in “unity of races”. Don’t kid yourself.
Proud Australian conservative with a libertarian streak since roughly 2007. My red pill moment, ironically enough, actually came at university. When I graduated from high school in 2004 I had already developed pretty strong left-wing viewpoints. Coming from a very pro-Democrat / pro-Labor Party family, these beliefs had been instilled in me for many years. My first year at university in 2005 was easy. Being a young Asian looking guy with progressive viewpoints, I fit right in with my fellow students and the campus faculty, and I very quickly became yet another cliche leftist undergraduate student. While I noticed the high levels of intolerance and vitriol in my newfound friends early on, I largely ignored it in my freshman year and focused on fighting for the cause. In 2006 things began to change. I distinctly remember two incidents that made me question everything that I purported to believe in. The first incident came immediately after the start of the war between Israel and Hezbollah. Guys, the level of Jew hatred that I witnessed from my "tolerant and anti-racist" progressive colleagues blew my mind. In my first tutorial after the start of the conflict a majority of the class made common cause with the Islamic fascists in Hezbollah. A number of the students openly stated that they wished for the destruction of the Jewish state. I left that tutorial conflicted to say the least. The very next tutorial was more of the same, but with a twist. A loudmouth Palestinian girl opined that 9/11 was not a murderous atrocity, but rather a "legitimate response" to American colonialism and racism. The main thing that still sticks in my mind to this day was the complete lack of pushback by the professors running the tutorials. On the contrary, they both lent their support to the notions that Israel should be destroyed and that 9/11 was justified. That was the first time that I spoke out. I got into a shouting match with the Palestinian student which culminated in me telling her, in a number of unfortunate words, precisely where she could shove her views on 9/11. I left campus that day angry and confused. Traveling home on the train that afternoon I promised myself that the viewpoints that I had just heard would never be mine. I hadn't found conservatism yet, but I was damn sure that I didn't hold those vile opinions. In the weeks and months that followed I joined the main conservative Christian group on campus. I also read "What's Left" by Nick Cohen, a fantastic account of the numerous bigotries and betrayals of the hard-left. By 2007 I had discovered Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder and many other fantastic authors, and by the middle of that year I officially came out as a proud conservative. My former white "anti-racist" leftist friends, to a person, denounced me as a racist "neocon" and a "self-hating Asian." All good, to me it just reinforced the hateful ugliness and intolerance that exists on the racist hard-left. This year marks my 14th year on the "right" side of history, and I've never been happier.
Wow! I'm so proud of you. Your story shows that you were well-meaning and honestly sought a group you believed were of one mind with you. You should write a book; nothing speaks better than personal experiences and struggles.

I have watched several hundred videos where when these talking points were being called out
had absolutely no defense by anyone that was adamant to try to defend them.
This is why it’s important for people to pay attention, I didn’t for 30 years and now I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I think the Conservative base is actually growing in the US. Considering that the CEO of CNN admitted to running stories that would get Trump out of office, Trump actually performed better than expected in the last election with almost 50% of the vote. Plus there was a large group of Conservatives who chose not to support Trump. I hope we can come together and put our values first in the next election, because the media tries to paint Conservatism as a racist, lost cause.

Also, the modern US right is rife with extremist religious drivel and beliefs, which are anything but fact based or rational. The aim? Seduce a wide audience of easily influenced, lost and vulnerable people who are angry with something going badly in their life (oftentimes out of their own wrongdoing or bad decisions)… and find an easy external target to put the blame on, a scapegoat to “liberate” them from the weight of responsibility or the weight of questioning the people who truly make life hard for them (the 0.1% richest, the billionaires running the banks and corporations, etc).
“All your problems in life are because of the [insert scapegoat group here]. Join our cult, and you too will be free from the burden of rationality, critical thinking and education. The woke crowd is responsible for inflation going crazy and high rent prices! The libruls are responsible for you not being able to afford house mortgage payments in this day and age! The BLM and lgbtq are preying on your children, your children are suffering because of them and definitely not because of the bad state of the economy, the predatory practices of psychopaths is high positions of economic power in our society… no, it is the fault of [x scapegoat]. Yet the false prophets like Peterson are astute in that they turn that logic upside down: they demonize those that practice altruism and strive for better social services for the poor and needy, and preach a gospel elevating money and materialism and opulence and narcissism as cardinal values that is what Jesus supposedly truly meant. It is an interesting Machiavellian tactic that has worked for decades now, before it was Fox News and their grossly paid psychopathic anchor hosts doing the dirty work of inverting Jesus’ teachings into their own twisted narrative of : “hate thy neighbour, only look out for yourself, hate the poor and the needy and the sick, egoism egoism egoism.” It’s laughable how insane and contradictory it is. I used to be a woke sjw with pronouns, now I'm a conservative. I'm glad that I got out of that phase, however I still have old comments on this account that are terrible and I don't agree with today.
I also have said things in the past at school that got my reputation ruined. I hate my old self, and I'm so mad at myself for everything I've done and said.
You know when you just randomly think about a cringy moment in your past? I do that all the time. But it's not just some ordinary embarrassing memory, these thoughts invade me and make me so stressed.
The worst part is, I can't go back and apologize to all those people or explain to them that I changed. Now I have to deal with what my past self left behind, it sucks...

I had a very similar experience. I was extremely left leaning and every SINGLE TIME my brother who is conservative would question the way I thought about certain things I knew deep down I was wrong but I would just rage at him and shut the conversation down. We were both raised in a left leaning house my parents were devastated when Trump had won the election and then 4 years later they were devastated that he had lost. I was the last one to flip to the conservative side and it's hard to believe that I had been so brain washed. I am so proud to be a conservative Mexican and I definitely use my skin Color and blood as a pass to try and correct my people. To show them that conservatives are not racist and how they are the more accepting side.

It was after I finished college and went back home that I felt I ‘woke up,’ thanks to a Trump rally I watched online. I started watching it as a joke, but the more I listened the more it all made sense to me and the more felt I had been brainwashed in college by other students, teachers and campus clubs. I started watching Ben Shapiro, Michael Knowles, and Officer Tatum and ABL and that’s when I totally finished waking up. Never felt so empowered before.
