I'd sell my soul for a live theater adaptation of the entire story from these albums.
Bump that, I want a film documentary
I'm afraid to hit the like button lol
Maybe an HBO series or something would be better. Then they wouldn't have to cut anything out
I wonder how they would incorporate the music into that, as I see it as a pretty vital piece of the story.
I'd thought about that. And really, I feel like each song can be put in one of two categories. Some of the songs lay their story arc concisely enough that they could stand on their own inside the larger production. Others though have so much story packed in them that it would be difficult to glean every detail from them after hearing them only once. Those sorts of songs could just be converted into their own acted out scenes, perhaps even with the melody of their respective songs played in the background by the orchestra.
At least, that sounds good on paper, but I wouldn't have the slightest idea how someone would go about actually doing that. Its fun to think about though.
Supposedly the guy who plays Hunter is a method actor and listened to nothing but TDH leading up to this role. When he showed up on set he asked everyone to only call him Hunter.
That's what I do too, minus the asking people to call me Hunter part
@@pseudogenesis Haha, nice one
@@pseudogenesis sameee
I had a blast on set. Erez and the rest of his team are indeed top notch filmmakers. It must be something in Winston-Salem's water. I thought the film turned out better than I had imagined, especially our battlefield running scene. The Dear Hunter has definitely gained a new fan.
Oh my gosh, you guys filmed in NC??
Christopher Gallagher Best scene
You all did a fantastic job on this. Well done sir.
Anyone that watched this and remotely follows the Acts, immediately got a smile and went into fanboy mode.
The tree!! Ms. Terri !! Ms. Leading!! The brother!! The pimp/priest!!!
Right?? Still stuck in fanboy mode lolololol
Dammit Casey! Always leaving us wanting more! LoL
Is that Ms. Leading or is it the brother's girlfriend in the bed? The one he gets with after assuming the brother's identity after the war.
Pretty sure it's Ms. Leading judging by the red door and the sash tied to the door handle.
So he slept with her after the war as well?
Did anyone else's jaw drop seeing the confessional tree for real in this video? Such an amazing short film
Yeah, we kinda need more of these, and by "more" I mean the entire story visualized like this. To say this is brilliant and excellent is an understatement.
1:04 "A boy who grows, with knife in hand
To fend for her, becomes a man" -The Inquiry of Ms. Terri, Act I
I never noticed the knife before! Thanks for pointing that out. :)
i was gonna post the same thing!
Book spoiler ahead

1878 is apparently literally Hunter falling in holes and getting in trouble. I wouldn't know cuz I don't have it but according to some friends over at Lake and the River, that's the thing.
Seeing those soldiers run and chant "E Dolore..." in unison gives me chills every time.
YES. dude it sends goosebumps down my entire body
Man, the lead actor (Joseph Gray) did a fantastic job! And with no speaking lines, too!
Criminally underrated.
is it tundra? Not popular =/= underrated. look at avg on sputnik, doesnt look underrated
Why can't more music have this level of artistry? So much music now has but a tenth of the talent required to produce pieces comparable to this.
"E dolore magna gloria..." From pain comes great glory.
Bradley J true, but the word order would not work in Italian, right?
Everytime I watch this MV, I so desperately want there to be an episodic film series of the Acts. Casey, you beautiful bastard, make it happen.
I'm so glad all the artists and fanart agree that Ms. Leading is a brunette. It's just satisfying
I discovered this song (and band) randomly about a week ago. I could not get the chorus out of my head for the life of me, I was humming and singing it everywhere I went, not even knowing at times. I found the video last night and have watched it about a dozen times since. I don't really know how to explain how much this song moves me, it's fucking amazing. I realize it's part of a huge set of albums, I am a prog rock and tech metal geek so it's right up my alley. Thank you The Deer Hunter!
Crazy late but the ending scene actually describes the second last song in this album.
All the people who have died, all the ones he's met in life, he thinks of them as waiting for him in the afterlife before sinking to a black abyss. Very cool video.
Yes!! Imagine if all the songs from Act IV had this cinematography :O
They do in my mind, at least! One of the many reasons The Dear Hunter is my favourite band is that as someone who's never been a visual person, Casey can paint such a clear picture in my mind with nothing but music.
I always imagine each song in a sort of rough animation storyboard thing that all link together into the story
Diana Rojo-Jewell me too
if anoyne's asking (probably not) e dolore magna gloria means from pain comes glory!
The dear hunter opened for coheed a few weeks ago and while I went for coheed these guys were superb. They were excellent and I enjoyed them almost as much as coheed. They were really good and I hope they make it big because their music is original and fun to listen to and they totally deserve it!
Netflix. Now.
What if Act VI turns out to be a movie? He said it won't be like the other acts, after all...
I would throw all my money to Casey
in a make it rain fashion?
of course, Casey only deserves the best lol
Isn't it already out technically?
I'd try my damnest to fund it for him
YES YES YES YES FUCKING YES! I loved this! I couldn't help but smile the whole way watching this! Gave life to many aspects of the Acts! Bravo, Casey!
Fantastic! Absolutely fantastic! It is so amazing to see these characters that we have been learning about for so long come to life!
You know, by this point in the story I've always imagined Hunter to look a bit more like Casey, with a bit more bulk as he approaches middle-age and having grown a beard of awesome.
You mean the Hunter like in What it means to be alone video? yeah...me too
Hunter is the main character's name, but it is the same guy from What It Means to be Alone
But he isn't fat
Chance Park Casey actually confirmed in his Facebook livestream that his name is Hunter.
Chance Park even the ending says his name is hunter
After reading a fan made explanation of the story, this video makes a lot of sense. I wish every song had a similar video to fit the scene of each song.
Best anime of 2016
I personally remember not being able to latch onto bands until I came across this one.
Coming into the story of The Dear Hunter that the band’s (i feel) namesake is named after. The entire story as a whole sounds like an amazing narrative to see played out in a series of movies or a TV show because it’s such an amazing rise and fall of a character I’ve able to consistently follow while also absolutely and utterly loving the band’s ability to capture a range of genres and dynamic, beautiful orchestral sounds. The entire story feels like a play, and considering the albums’ titles as Acts, I think this band did a damn good job at keeping it that way.
I just adore this band and I think that while this particular track may not be my personal number one song (but i could never choose just one), this music video is probably what captures the wonder and lost helpless the man, portraying the main character goes through as he grows up in the story.
I wish this band just. Got more popularity and people knew just how good expanding your music tastes can be.
I always get whiplash listening from the first album all the way to the last in the Acts.
I love this so much.
I cried when I saw the Boy (Hunter) and Ms Terri! Also so glad that have his name from the livestream Casey did. Beautiful! I really hope we get to see more footage of the Acts like this!
2:00 min mark gives me chills every time i rewind it.
Open-eyed oversight led me to here
Looking for an avenue to simply appear
One too many steps into the wrong direction
Leading me to throw up my hands
Soon I'll know exactly where I stand
Found in a flood of incendiary plans
Oh, I've been falling fast into the rhythms without rhymes
I won't be giving up again; yeah, I'll be getting up again
I heard a voice it said 'e dolore mangia gloria'
Bring me your heart and then
You will awake in a state of surprising euphoria
But don't tell anyone...
I wasn't wrong to fend their ambiguity
Then I learned to turn emotions into weaponry
One too many words said with the wrong inflection
Leading me to throw up my hands
Am I giving up the ghost again?
Surrendering so that my evils will amend
Oh, I've been falling fast into the space between the lines
I'll be getting up again; I won't be giving up again
I heard a voice it said 'e dolore mangia gloria'
Bring me your heart and then
You will awake in a state of surprising euphoria
But don't tell anyone what you saw here...
Now I never heard that sound before
I am nothing but an infant wave stuck in a savage ocean
Soon I'll know exactly where I stand
Found in a flood of incendiary plans
Oh, I've been falling fast into the space between the lines
I'll be getting up again; I won't be giving up again
I heard a voice it said 'e dolore mangia gloria'
Bring me your heart and then
You will awake in a state of surprising euphoria
Don't fear the words that I say
I heard a voice it said 'e dolore mangia gloria'
Bring me your heart and then
You will awake in a state of surprising euphoria
But don't tell anyone what you saw here...
Wow that was fantastic. Imagine if we had one of these for each song on all the Acts in order to tell the entire story visually. Would cost a tremendous amount of money, but like everyone says, Casey deserves the best because he gives so much to us all. With all that being said, about to leave to go see them at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston now! I hope they play a lot of cuts from the new album because it is utterly fantastic. Thank you Casey and TDH for another perfect release!!!
I never thought id be saying this but thank god for ads for bringing me this song and band
I swear, I listen to this song at least once a day and when I'm not listening to it I'm humming it to myself at work.
this was so great i just found out about the dear hunter like a few weeks ago but im hooked, the universe you have created and the music is amazing Casey
I just started listening about a month ago and just got finished reading about the story of the Boy and I'm totally hooked. One of my favorite bands of all time now.
I literally cried tears of joy watching this...SO GOOD!!!
im cying tears of nostalgia =)
I just became the 2thousandth like for the song.
How dare I call myself a fan, took me far to long to get here. BEAUTIFUL SONG.
Everytime I see this video with less them 1m views I get disappointed, but the number keeps getting higher and higher! I love you guys and this song is one of my favs.
Goosebumps. The. Entire. Time.
I am nothing but an infant wave stuck in a savage ocean. Casey you have created my favorite band and I have been around since 2008 you never fail to amaze me. to my hugest inspiration thank you thank you thank you :D
I just discovered dear hunter when they released act v. I don't know if i'm blessed or cursed with this visualitation before i binge-listen to the other 4 :/
We saw these guys in SF with Awesome Orchestra last year and it was the coolest show ever. We met them at a Guitar Center in the area before the show and they were super nice. Definitely our favorite band.
OH MY GOD. I just checked these guys out after hearing that they're touring with Coheed & Cambria. This shit is fantastic. I definitely need to hear more of this and see what these guys are all about.
Sick, a great way to give a visual element to this part of the story. Super excited!
Wow..just discovered this band today, accidently by searching for opeth's album 'In Cauda Venenum' witch brings me for their song...i glad i did!
I listen to alot of theatrical/concept based bands
Alesana.... The Funeral Portrait... Circa Survive... BUT WHY THE FUCK HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS BAND UNTIL November 13th 2021 at 11:51PM?!?
Vim aqui pelo tanto que o Toledo da banda SuperCombo ja falou de vocês. Gostei muito dessa musica
I like how the very beginning of the video is the intro to "The March" and the credits have the outro to "The Moon/ Awake". Also, I suppose this confirms that Gloria is about him deciding/reflecting on whether to burn down The Dime. I don't think Mr. Usher is actually giving him the push here, I think he either has a dream or a vision about it on his own.
2:00 is just jaw-droppingly epic.
It's the perfect use of visuals to match the audio.
I simply cannot get enough of this bit.
Quickly becoming one of my favorite progressive acts.
Act V or The Dear Hunter in general? TBH I think The Color Spectrum is my favorite release by these guys. Check that out if you haven't.
Casey and crew, please make more Act videos. I love this more than words could express.
Ms. Leading looked wonderful. The whole cast looks great to be fair. Wowie. I really wish this was a television series, on like netflix or something. Would make for a great Drama! (Or tragedy?)
Amazing album in my collection, greetings from Italy!
this album is all I need right now in life
I only wish every song of the acts could be acted out like this! Love this!!
It's amazing!!!!
Just found this band, giving me some Circa Survive vibes. Good stuff.
Air, water, a complete movie of this caliber, food, shelter....Necessities.
e dolore mangia gloria means from pain comes glory
Love love love this song
it's a masterpiece
love this and absolutely need more!!!
i absolutely love singing the chorus its so fun
I don't believe the bedroom scene is Ms. Leading. Note the Hunter Had not served in the war prior to meeting her. Implying that scene is him with the Lover, the wife of his half-brother who died during the war whom to he fled and pretended to be.
Also, I'm pretty sure the armbands are symbolic of ownership. Him taking his brothers after he dies as he assumes his identity. Only for the child version of him to hand him back his own after that internal crisis and re-assume who he truly is and what he is meant to do
It's when he comes back from war. When he sees her at the end of A Night On The Town.
it's Ms. Leading alright. when we think/dream of the past it's not in chronological order, right? they're just jumbled together.
+joeland87 i don't think he sleeps with her outside of Act II. he's drunken off his ass during ANOTT and thinks he's seeing her towards the end, but it's actually the half-brother's wife (the lover), with whom he sleeps in "Is There Anybody Here?",
Felipe deliberaes. Casey said it was her in the Facebook Q&A. Its Ms. Leading. Not the lover.
oh. must have missed that. now i'm confused
Gorgeous, I love it!!
My heart!! I've been waiting so long for something like this, it made me so happy! Amazing!!
more than I expected! Amazing !
My God... It's amazing!!!!
Regardless of how many times I've watched this video, this is the first time I watch it really stoned and I literally cried watching the story unfold like this
SPECTACULAR! On every level.
this is everything i could have asked for in a music video for my favorite song
Yes yes yes! I loved it. Amazing, that's all I can say!
Good lord, this is amazing!
Brilliant! Well done Erez and your team!!
So much art and opportunity surrounds these albums, and its impossible not to be excited for what's to come. Act V is fantastic! The video was so well done too with all the little throwbacks and color coordination.
Feature length film next please. Damn this was so good!
I was so hyped when I saw the ad for the band on a video
This drummer's intro lures you into false sense of post rock rhytm security, then he refuse to back up or solo, no, instead he play along with your mind, keeps bulding anticipation and everytime break your sense of rhytm :D Moarr!
E dolor e magna gloria!
DAMN this is amazing! everything how I imagined it is exactly accurate I'm so happy!
IS THAT MISS LEADING?
I think so
which part? in the field at the beginning is Mrs Terri, his mother. In the bedroom it's Miss Leading.
Yeah, in the bedroom! I love how this video ties so much together!
I KNOW! I cried from excitement lol and the fact that all the memories from Act II and III are exactly how I pictured it in my head :)
I think it's the last mayor's daughter, cuz we can see the son of the boy and hers just after.
I've completed a stage show set in World War One and those scenes in this video give me absolute chills. Amazing work.
I love it xD act v is so good
Was almost in tears seeing all this stuff visualised. I love this story and I LOVE this music (I really hope act 6 is on the way)
I’ve loved this music for years and I’m so happy to have stumbled upon music videos!
Really great music video! One of the best I've seen :)
SO GOOOOOD 👌👌
YASSSSSS I LOVE LOVE THIS
Such a good song, and a really cool video
Nice job John! You guys should be very proud of your production here. Well done.
this is my first time and song ive heard from the band, n i love it. i started reading comments, i had no idea whqt was goin on
epic, beautifully epic!
Estaba esperando un video así desde el 2009.
God the scene with the soldiers in unison. It's so... sad.
Song gets better the more you listen to it. Didnt like it first listen, now i love it!
I'm here because of Julia Lepetit, and holy fuck, I can see why this is her favorite band.
Love the imagery in this music video. The glimpses into each Act are awesome too. Hearing the rest of Act V, I'd love to know what happens after the Hunter leaves. Seems like he's about to start an insurrection, seeing his armband has changed (and knowing some of the imagery at the end of the album).
Muito foda!!
Awesome!!! You are guys keep at it. Great vid as well
God, this music video is so cool.
Heard about you guys from The Attack, also enjoyed Kevin's podcast. Awesome stuff! Very different!
Incredible!!
