OK. How is it that someone can hum a song better than they can sing the song. Also much easier to get/reach higher and lower notes humming than singing??

I have a question Ramsey.....for months now I have been developing my mix and it have been improving but I have this question concerning placement.....I have been trying out some various style of singing and it confusing now to me what mix truly is... I kind of feel two kind of placement that gives different feeling (1) forward placement (2) open/backwards placement...the forward placement leads to a belted note,feels more forward and strong_more like this chesty sound but the open position tends to lead to my falsetto/head voice (so please which is the right placement to sing in? I think I can belt sing but I can't sing with that warm and cool,soft sing voice....so please help me out
