- It's good you mentioned that tarps are not meant to drag stuff on. You may have to in an emergency, but then your tarp is done. - I also see people ruin their wool blankets by doing things with it that it's not intended for. Thanks for the video...
Good video Blackie, thank you. I really like the idea of the versatility a tarp like you set up has. You are working on moving me out of my tent to try something different.
I just picked up a nice Grand Trunk. Abrigo sil nylon tarp 9 ft 6 by 9 ft 6 13 foot diagonal for $25 off eBay. Brand new. With 6 stakes and guy lines and stuff sack. MSRP is $99 I just seen one on sale at Dunhams for $79 I’ve used it a few times already and twice in pounding rain. No leaks so I’m happy. I also have 1 single and 2 double grand trunk hammocks and a really nice under quilt and bug net
Nice informative video Blackie. I secure and protect my two Australian tarps in a surplus 50cal ammo box that stays in the back of my 4 wheel drive. The price of the Onewind tarp in Australia is $177 Australian dollars. US $89 is a bargain.
Also have a Arcturus XL 8.5 by 12 survival blanket that works very well when it’s hot and sunny I put that one up over my other tarp silver side out and about 6 inches above the other trap seems to be a lot cooler when set up that way. The bad thing is the Arcturus is a little bulky and heavy but works well if you’re not trying to pack light like I normally do. I usually just carry a haversack and maybe a Vietnam era butt pack I have travels many miles over the years with just such a set up. Usually on the North Country Trail here in northern Michigan. I can carry enough food and other items to get me through the better part of a week but can usually catch a few nice trout along the Jordan river as the trail follows it for quite a a ways
This really is a great tarp. Since I've had mine my other tarps and tents have been on extended vacation. Whatever the current shelter situation requires, this tarp can adapt to. I feel like it should get more attention than it does.
Thanks Blackie, I was leery of buying Sil-nylon because I thought it wouldn't hold up for long. Didn't know that it's made better now. Good to hear that. 👍🏻
Nice video Blackie. Sure wish that I could get my husband back into camping like he used to be. After getting an RV he got used to that. When the RV started leaking and we couldn’t afford to fix the leak yet we covered the leaking corner. But now when he goes deer hunting he would rather pay to stay in a hotel than to rough it like we used to. I miss the good ole days.
I have seen some say pack your gear on a tarp and drag it to your camp. I just died laughing you can tell they have more money than common sense. Thanks Blackie
The tarp looks like a very practical and versatile item to have, but the most useful part of this video is Blackie's explanation of how NOT to use a tarp, starting around 12:45.
thanks for all your support.
Thanks blackie

Good comment about using a tarp/ poncho for a drag- what a croc that is.

These look like a good tarp for the haversack I’m setting up. Maybe I will get a ultralight hammock also!
i really like mine
If you want a drag, go to Sportsman's Guide and get a Magnum s'layr deer drag
thats a good choice for that sort of thing
Great information here! I’ve got to try that set up ! Excellent protection!
Finally, common sense of a trap. Thank you blackie
my pleasure
Same I paid for mine last September. Money well spent.

goedenavond Blackie👍
thank you
Did you have to seam seal it?
He says it's double-patched at loops and waterproof sealed.
My buddy has the same tarp and used the closed door method to keep his hammock dry when it rained hard back in June.
Is that the 12’x10’?
i have used mine to keep my hammock dry in several storms its never failed me
He said so. (12'×10")
thanks! I must have missed.
