Right on. You remembered my lesson: never listen to friends for relatives...they think what you want is criticism, so they will criticize the joy out of your comedy. Listen to the audience. If they are laughing, you are right on. Trust yourself.
This is Gold. My wife is more serious and professional. I always ask her to judge my jokes so I can get over the criticism and dive even harder into it!!! 😂

Hey Greg! I have a question that’s been burning in my head. If we are supposed to memorize through picture sounds and feelings and focusing on the picture, how do we remember to use joke structure if we are not prioritizing the words themselves? Like if I am discovering those details in the picture in the moment, how do you remember to use joke structure rather than just ranting? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Great answer for 2009. Still the truth, but comedy has evolved, as have PC sensibilities that make comedy an act of courage in 2020.
If it’s funny it’s comedy. Period.
Comedy is constantly evolving. My student Anthony Jeselnik had to find his audience.
