  • Today I have a special guest, Alexis of XO Beauty Co, sharing her wisdom about all things hair and makeup for brides. We cover why wedding makeup costs more than other types of makeup, what to do and not to do to your skin and hair before the wedding, lash extensions, spray tans, when to book your artist, how to make your trial effective, and more.

    I keep finding more and more of your cool videos. I'm a photographer and my wife is a hair/makeup artist who also does eyelash extensions and microblading. I'm sending this to her right now!
    As a photographer I loved the tip about how important it is to have *experienced* people doing hair/makeup in order to keep the timeline on track.

    Watch out for putting toothpaste on zits! I did it once and it turned into a cyst which had to be surgically removed...

    thoughts on grooms getting makeup and touch ups?

    • @cavinelizabeth

      LOVE it!! Grooms often neglect that sort of photo-ready prep and I think if the groom has any blemishes or razor burn, he could definitely benefit from some makeup and pro muas will know how to make sure nobody can even tell :)

    Cavin, could you please do a video on makeup products and techniques for people who have to do their own makeup? Im having a destination wedding in Italy and cant get a makeup artist that does the typical style. They are also extortionate

      I can add it to my list. Also, not sure if it helps. But you could reach out to Trine Juel from Paris to see if she can take a train or quick flight to do it. She does a beautiful job (I've used her before).

    I'm having a very tiny backyard ceremony so I thought I don't need to go all out with makeup 😅 I can barely put on false eyelashes right.

    I am freaking out about my face right now. my wedding is in 2 months and I am breaking out due to tretinoin and I am not sure if I should just take a break on this stuff until after the wedding. I really need some advice. thank you

      Have you called your dermatologist? You could also post in Reddit on the skincare forums. They know a lot more than me. I only just started retinol. I would make sure to use a pea size amount for the full face and use 1x per week to start and gradually build up. But if you're already doing that and it's breaking you out, perhaps discontinue until after the wedding.

      @@cavinelizabeth Yeah I talked to my dermatologist. He was the one that prescribed it. I was using it once a week for 4 months.He told me to try to start using it 3 times a week. I have a another appointment scheduled for May 26th and if it hasn't gotten better, he said we will come up with a plan. I am just scared about it. I have never broken out this much. Do you think any other cosmetic treatments might help? I like your videos a lot.

    What about sunbathing? Specially if it is a summer wedding. Or just avoid the sun all together? 😰

    • @cavinelizabeth
      @cavinelizabeth  Год назад

      It's up to you if you are open to tanning and the effects of the sun. There is a lot of beauty in embracing your natural skin tone, no matter what that looks like.

    I have hair and make up, a team of 3 or 4 as it's a big bridal Party. I was looking into people that do hair and make up, they only 2 people at weddings, for my bigger bridal Party, this girl was only able to do either hair or make up, which when I researched for the other, was going to more expensive then going to the girl I did that brings on her team for no extra charge cause it's covered. AU$200 per person, so $100 for hair and $100 make up. Is really cheap

    Thanks for the great info! But... you frame your videos with faces centered vertically... why? You are a photographer, right? What happened to the rule of 3rds? You have 1/2 a screen of dead space & only straight on shots, it feels unbalanced & awkward. You should be showcasing your artistry 🙂

    • @cavinelizabeth
      @cavinelizabeth  5 лет назад +10

      I am always working out the kinks and this video was the first I did with another person. The last collab I filmed has better framing that I'll release next week. Also, I'm not a videographer. I put these videos out for the information and that is my main focus. My artistry comes from my images as that is what I am providing to my clients, not video :)

      @@summern8157 Whether its serious or not, I just hoped to be helpful to a small channel with some constructive feedback so that Calvin's videos can create the best possible impression and hopefully grow her channel & business.

      I thought the same. Or throw some of your art in the background to fill up some of the space.
