  • The cameras keep rolling and capture our costliest day sailing aboard our yacht. The Southern Ocean's Furious Fifties bring fury as we round the dangerous Le Maire Strait at the tip of Tierra del Fuego in South America and experience a big loss on board.
    #SailingAdventure #SouthernOcean #ExtremeSailing
    About Us:
We are two young racing sailors that decided to leave life on land and accomplish our goals of sailing around the world and learning about and experiencing different cultures. Originally from the Great Lakes, we left Newport Rhode Island in July of 2019 after refitting our boat DIY style. We then sailed to Maine, and from there down the East Coast of the USA, around Cape Hatteras, to the Bahamas, Back to Miami, and then to the Virgin Islands.
From there we headed south to Grenada to escape hurricane season, then back up to St. Maarten where we launched our first Atlantic Crossing to Horta, Azores. We made a quick trip back to the USA in July of '21 to defend our Chicago - Mackinac Race overall title, then it was back to cruising the Canaries, where we launched for our second Transatlantic voyage, sailing to Brazil in South America and on to Uruguay.
Our goal is to sail around the world via Cape Horn, and that is where we are headed now. Capturing footage to share this epic adventure with you as we round the horn and venture into the canals and fjords of Patagonia, Chile.

For decades I have lived by a little motto: If it doesn't kill you, you learn from it, laugh at it, and keep on trucking.
You learn from it to improve and do better; you laugh at it to not let it get you down; and you keep on trucking so you don't let it stop you. It works. I'll be 74 in a week.

At least they do not hold every 10 seconds a child in front of the camera... For me that's the most annoying thing of some other (formerly very nice and now unbearable) channels. And one day I will catch a dolphin and ask him/her, what the hell they are doing there in front of a boat...😁

Great sail! Makes Sweet Ruca feel like a Laser on strong winds sometimes, with rain, wind & waves - loved to go out sailing my Laser on these conditions in Búzios, when I was young. It used to fly over the waves, amazing!
Sorry for your losses, but it happens. Down there, on Chile and Argentina, there are some tax freezones where you can get these replaced, if you haven't already.

To be fair we have a few advantages. We have more modern boat design and sails that can sail into the wind more efficiently, an engine, and weather via satellite is game changing. Have to give the crew of those tall ships lots of respect, the age of sail is awe inspiring! We are glad you enjoyed though and will gladly accept the compliment ;-) Cheers Lindsay!

I completely understand the reaction to the loss; on the one hand it’s absolutely true that things can be replaced - though the lost footage cannot - but gifts are more than things, they’re a tangible reminder that someone thought of you and wanted to show it.
We’re currently at 57N in our place in Scotland, and walked on the beach at Cullen looking at waves crash ashore from the Moray Firth last night, and we thought of you again.
Keep on keeping on guys ❤

I know nothing of sailing. I've been to the west coast and played in the waves. I've seen shark week. That's all I know of the ocean.
I am in awe of these young folks in that they are so, skilled in sea travel . Keep the videos coming.

We admire you and your GPS coordinates are impressive! Your navigational skills are awesome due to your executing your plan so successfully. Congratulations on your successes. Sorry about your drone and GoPro 10...just another victim to Davy Jones Locker. Was skirting your jib in those conditions really that necessary or were you just bored? LOL. You guys are the BEST!

Next time get a line attached to the camera housing some how and the rails. So that if snaps or break you still have the line attached to the rails.
    I hope it helps.

Quick tourist Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion: Double the Celsius then add 32. 10C x 2 = 20. Then, to that the result, add 32. So, 20 + 32 = 52F. The actual conversion of 10C to F is 50F. The touristy conversion works fairly well (within a few) most everyday situations.

Hope you can get a new drone shipped to a collection point along the Beagle Channel. Great choice of music as usual. Love how you can dial down the Ruca to reduce load, prepare for the night, slow down, yet she sails well. Then you also know how the safely keep the speed up when required.
Unlike in the epic film 'Master and Commander' you haven't lost the mizen mast or had to cut a crewmember loose with the wreckage of the mizen!

@@SailingSweetRuca You fail to differentiate the concentrations of brightness above the horizon. We are looking south at 7:33.
The sun is not in the south, so why the two rows of bright concentrations of light areas nearer the horizon?
Sorry you lost your drone and video camera. The data-loss is a serious issue.
I daily shoot a Nikon P1000, usually starting 60 minutes prior to the sunrise. The one second shutter (on a tripod) (completely impossible for you floating on the deep blue) demonstrates (every day is different) light sources in the sky, as much as 180 degrees from the expected rise of the sun.
Between 2013 and 2019 more than 4000 new comets were observed and mapped flying into our view, mostly from the same corridor. Many were described as 'highly-charged' with cosmic energy (like the sun). Several were described as 'looking occupied.
In 2016 NASA quietly announced they were observing OUR SUN's binary ! It was described as so near they were watching its motion and observing it dragging its own solar system ( 2013 Comet Catalina V4, the binary) (the Ison comets in orbit around V4)
(and Comet Catalina 2013 U S 10) (its furthest flung orbital).
Study 'The Electric Universe Theory'. (Wal Thornburg). When you grasp that nitrogen is a plasma (any gas subject to the properties of a magnetic field) you will gain some understanding of how the comet flood/ river/ stream/ invasion has changed SPACE Weather, and, due to the properties of nitrogen (connects our weather to space-weather), our weather is greatly affected.
And so are measurable elevations of irradiance in various areas of the spectrum of electro-magnetic energies that we exist in.
P.S. The dim lights are electrically connected to our sun. Keep an eye out.
Gravity is magnetics on a planetary scale, and has 'repulsively' as well as attraction.
Most of the cometary bodies in our sky exist in what is described as a 'cloud-envelope'.

Yes, converting C to F degrees quickly in ones head is a pain. Here is my trick: When it is cold out, multiple C by 2 and add 30, when it is hot out, multiple C by 2 and add 25. I.e., 10C = 2*10+30 = 50F, 30C = 2*30+25 = 85F(true 86F). It works for me. Great video and channel which I just stumbled across (and now subscribed). SV JohannaRose
