I think the story was a rewrite of a proposed 2nd season story with the fleets orphan ship forced to crash land with a basestar on a planet. Starbuck was to lead a group to rescue the children before the cylons found them. It was to also introduce the "land probe" that became the flying motorcycles.
As a kid BSG80 was so-so but today just embrasssing. The stock footage reuses sometimes horrifically bad (to depict a Viper dead in space it was a freezeframe eg) and here, that smoke effect alone. If only Hatch had some luck with his Second Coming project. 2:00 and this...major 😂
