I think the story was a rewrite of a proposed 2nd season story with the fleets orphan ship forced to crash land with a basestar on a planet. Starbuck was to lead a group to rescue the children before the cylons found them. It was to also introduce the "land probe" that became the flying motorcycles.

Too bad this gold cylon commander wasn't vulpa from gun on ice planet zero. It would have been a nice return of a character that was supposed to be the recurring antagonist before baltar was placed instead. If the series got a second season, maybe vulpa would replace baltar on the basestar with lucifer, that could have been interesting at least.

I think what the colonies were so relaxed at this point because the cylons gave the impression of peace. They probably stopped attacking humans and ships for a while, then all together with baltar running negotiations for them luring the 12 colonies into a false belief of them giving up fighting and wanting borders between their domains. This probably took months to a couple of yarns/years for the ruse to play out, which is maybe why adama refused to believe it could be happening. From his experience, the cylons started something they never did in their history with other species. It smelled and looked like a trap, but the president and the quorum of 12 were tired of war, and though baltar believed they now had a chance.

Why was Adama / Galactica the only battlestar to launch? The others must have been like "umm we're being attacked - we should launch" ? I know they explained it away as everyone being goofing off in some splendid ritual. I'm not sure I buy that. I can't believe only Adama saw the poo poo coming towards him. You can't have 12+ BattleStars run by fools can you?

Would Baltar dare lead an attack on the Galactica if his family had survived the Cylon Invasion of the Colonies and were living on one of the 220 unarmed ships?

Everyone talks about there only 5 battlestars at the peace conference at simtar. But i got the impression that Atlantia, galactica, triton, Pacifica, and bellerphon were the first to show up, and others like Columbia and solaria were just arriving as the the attack started. When Apollo and zac discovered the cylons laying in wait, the attack on the battlestar fleet was launched earlier than planned. After atlantia was destroyed and galactica left, any newly arriving battlestars would be swarmed by raiders before successful launching vipers. All the cylons at the old moon of simtar was a kamikaze strike with probably none surviving. This would explain orphan vipers landing on galactica later as they lost their home ship.

Man, gotta say it's a hell of a scene with great acting at 3:10 The face of a dying man looking into the eyes of God and being told you did a good job.

I hated the addition of a queen. Turn the borg from a true collective, an alien hive mind bent on one thing with no concept of individuality, to a generic queen-based hive structure with unthinking drones and one leader. It just loses so much interest and fear factor.

As a kid when this came out, I feared Cylons tremendously. They were the scariest of any villians to me. Someone should reinvent this kind of terror

They ruined the borg when they reduced the collective treat they posed and made the focal point a borg queen. Now the borg is just another generic villain. Just my opinion.

BSG tech is weird. Given that jump drives are cheap enough to chuck on Cyylon Raiders, you'd just put them on nukes and materialise them in the middle of population centres. No need for Basestars or Battlestars.. The existence and capability of jump drives renders almost all defences utterly useless.
