- Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
- Today we are stoked to sit down and talk with SC Senior Videographer Joe Perrin as he takes us into his office and breaks down how he went about making Jake Wooten’s Debut Pro Video Part. Joey P gets his hands dirty and shows us how he achieved certain video effects by not only using DVDs and VHS Tapes, but properly Re-Recording footage from his VHS Player with his HD camera and exporting the footage to his computer for the final product! This is an artistic process where Joe’s creativity shines as you can see the craftsmanship he puts in to each and every video project. Thanks for showing us around, Joe!

Thanks for the shoutout Joey. You may also remember that when I saw that the 14-year-old you was not much interested in school, but loved skate boarding, I not only saw that as a pathway to get you to learn about shooting and editing, I also told you about some guys that were making motorcycle trick videos and distributing them through shops all over the country. Little did I know you'd make a career out of it all - and working at the premier place in the business. By the way, my friend Charlie Samuels has won top awards at about 30 film festivals around the world for his skateboard doc, Virgin Blacktop. PBS had considered it for their Doc series, but it's still available for distribution.
Mr. Z! YES- I am so thankful to this day that you saw that spark that I had for skateboarding and skate videos and let me turn it into a productive passion. Wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for you and your guidance, and that TV Production class. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! -JP
Well done Teach!
this is a teacher right here man hell yah !!!
I'm currently trying to learn how to get better at editing and filming skate videos. This is so sick to hear. Thanks for the video and inspiration over the years!
Stoked! Keep it up
Best skate channel by a mile. Could not thank you more for your amazing work
wow! the level of thought, care, and work that Joe puts into SC vids is mind-blowing. He's amazing.
BRUH i have that exact vhs/dvd player too hahah. Used it to get my old family vhs clips too! Awesome shots and effects. Really love Joe's work.
Thanks Todd! Yep, I've had that VHS/DVD player for many YEARS!
That’s awesome how you combine and re-combine the various media to make kind of a video collage. I wouldn’t have guessed that you literally film the tv screen while the vhs was playing. And bonus points for that sweet Roland Jazz Chorus amp!
Thanks! Don't always do the "film the TV screen" thing, but thought it would be a nice touch for the Jake part. And yes- I love my Jazz Chorus!
Cameras are cool
Joe’s the best, a true genius!
Joe is amazing it’s really dope to watch this type of video
Joe is the man! Thanks for checking this one out, Matheus! 🙏
Appreciate you Matheus!
awesome..shout out from Miri, Sarawak off the island of Borneo
Big Love! ❤️
Hmm if you’re going to film off the TV anyways, I’d recommend just getting an HMDI to AV converter. Just export your video into 4:3, record the video onto VHS and recapture with something like an Immersion RC that records directly onto micro SD. Either way will save some time by avoiding burning to DVD.
I've watched this quite a few times now, & I see getting more creative with the editing and filmmaking. Such as saying you don't need the most up to date camera right now with the best auto focus and the sharpest image, And getting very creative with the board zooming in and old footage going analog from the editing software to the DVD to the VHS back into the software. I would have never through of that and it makes me want to up my quality of editing and filmmaking.
Stop revealing tips😭 a magician never reveals his tricks
Haha, nah- I'm all about sharing the love. Hopefully this type of stuff can be inspiring to someone else out there.
DBC.. Daily Blessings Coming!
Thank You ALL for Everything, Everyday!!
That’s so Awesome!! I wish I could have talent like that… Skateboarding, Filming, BLESSED!!

Which Tons is he referring to? Is he talking about Tonz from Ft Myers?
This is so sick being an editor and skater
Dude has the ILLEST bag of tricks!! AND full time edit/filming?! 🔥🔥🔥
@@SantaCruzSkateboards wowwwww thats crazy that he can do all of that truly a goat
That first song sounded like Red House Painters, was it?
I really enjoyed watching this. Its really inspiring! But there is one thing i want to point out: dvds and vhs tapes are not analouge, they are digital.
Man that’s a lot of work. I’m glad these old cameras went out and HD & 4K killed it. I hated the tape look and just wanted to see film instead.
I had the pleasure of skating and filming with Joe back in high school. The way he speaks of Jeff Lenoce is the way we spoke of him with his camera. It's been crazy watching his career over the years and all the films he's created. I can't believe I just watched our old spot behind Publix on the Santa Cruz channel. Amazing.
Hell yeah John! We gotta hit an old man session up at Publix one day
What is the name of the 'dad cam''?
Westsiiiiiiiide! Love Montessi and your past work with him! Great job joe!

SELF-MADE DUDE!!!
I had a lot of help from friends and family along the way, but hard work was and will always be, essential.
This is so cool
aulas
This is so sick! I love hearing about these "behind the scene" stories. This gets me hyped to be creative.
Great video! Love to film and edit my skate videos!! ❤
I love the effort you put in to make your videos look.
It's crazy how the editor at the beginning of this looks just like an older version of Cory Kennedy
