I think people are too harsh on Buttler as captain, he is talking the right things about captaincy. Maybe he isn't sharp like Morgan or Dhoni but I don't think he is bad.
The results under his captaincy are representative of the the team. I don't think he can get an average team to perform better than their potential. When he had the best team in 2022 T20 WC especially for those Australian conditions, he got the job done and won the tournament. Overall England had a great t20 side in 2024 but the players struggle in spin friendly conditions of West Indies which resulted in them getting knocked out in semis. Another performance where captain was as good as his team.
He is not a captain material
With a team like Eng having brook stokes Buttler himself , bairstow root malan u can't be loosing 6 world cup games

He is great player but captaincy leadership is totally different stuff..Morgan is not great as kp, root,etc but his influence impact his team..I don't think even dhoni has done great thing what Morgan did .. he changed everything in english circuit..Morgan is just like Ganguly influence..I know indian fans will criticise me comparing with great dhoni..I know dhoni grabbed all global trophy 🏆 but Ganguly captaincy, we 90 era fell love in cricket..we waited for indian series especially against aussy.. aussy is my enemy I hate aussy most..but Ganguly captaincy changed indian cricket..Ganguly may not be as great dhoni but Ganguly gave so much opportunity to new guys, borrowed players from different states like jharkand dhoni.. Morgan is my favorite leaders.. I missed him lot..love u morgs ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊

I’m mid 50’s and I’ve seen some great white ball players down the years play for England but this guys been class and destroyed many a bowler,hope he gets back soon! England still need him and reality will hit when he finally does stop playing how good he really was !!👍

How would you know he is uninspiring. Must have x ray eyes from your sofa.
Some very interesting points about the 5,6,7. Role. Less ego, dynamite, and highly skilled players in that role. In the T20 side, for 2026 that could mean Brook, Bethell, Stokes, as Buttler, Salt, Jacks/Duckett and Livingston could the top 4. In the ODI side, it's tricky. If Salt, Jacks/Duckett open, Root at 3, Stokes at 4, then 5,6,7 could be Buttler, Brook, Bethell/Smith, Bethell would be preferred over smith for the Champions trophy, because he is an all rounder, could bowl, left arm spin, something england has been missing. If that batting line-up is paired, with even average bowling line up, it could be tournament winning, especially with baz as head coach.
He'll be fit for the IPL, have no fear about that!

It won't be his fault, but it will end in failure. We do not have any quality spinners after Rashid departs & we certainly can't play spin with Morgan, Ali & maybe Root not playing.
