Fondant Pepperoni Tutorial

i want to start cake sculping but i dont know where to start, im thinking about practicing modelling with clay, did you take any sculpting classes, and do you feel there is a difference in texture between sugar pastes and modelling clay, would it be the same weather i practice on modelling clay first and then i move on to fondant? i dont waste money in awful fondat creations if they dont come out right. please help me!
