  • After a few months' of use, I review Fujifilm's GFX 50R camera system and see how it holds up against traditional film photography.

Definitely try and adapt full frame lenses on it and shoot in the crop modes. A Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 in 1:1 crop mode is very similar to Rollei + 80mm POV. 99% of the time I shoot square with this camera.

Great video. I have a similar set up. I use the 35-70 the most (with my Gfx 50r) as my travel lens but despite it being head and shoulders over any other ‘kit’ lens I’ve ever owned it is probably the least sharp gf optic. 50 f3.5 is sharper, but with more of a modern fx digital look. If you want more of a cinematic film look the 45 f2.8 can’t be beat. Colours and contrast simply superb

Okay, so two questions! Is it possible to do a tutorial on how to edit on Lightroom or capture one in order to get those film-like images? I’m begging you! Or could you possibly sell presets for Lightroom 😊

Hey, thanks for the video, great content as always !
But i don't really understand, apart for the file size, what's the real benefit if you already have a good digital camera, like an A7 ? Like, you still have to go through Lightroom, so, you can easily emulate the film look on there even if your raw file is pretty "unfilmlike" and tweak the colors and add grain, and everything..
So, yeah i don't really get the point, and i think it would be super interesting if you'd do a video where you do exactly like what you did here at 3:00 minutes, where you try to match a digital shot to a film shot, but try to take one also with the A7, and get as close as you can in Lightroom ?..
There's a big hype right now around Fuji cameras and the film emulation, but you can do a pretty similar look in Lightroom already, and lets be honest, everybody is using Lightroom (even with film scans haha) so, i don't get the hype and i need somebody to explain haha
Thanks for reading me, keep up the great content !

I always wanted to get into photography or film making in general. I might get my first camera this year if I save up enough. Can't decide what to get tho, cameras are too overwhelming.

my advice would be: get a cheap small digital camera and carry it with you wherever you go and just start shooting pictures... a lot! gear doesn't really matter (in the beginning especially)

Hey mate, following you for so long and watching you from Germany, seeing you doing campaigns for Gucci meanwhile or doing stuff with Pangea for Salomon is so inspiring to keep pushing your own work day by day. Really love your content, keep it up! btw: Which camera are you using for your RUclips videos? Cheers :)

Heard focus is slowish, but is it ok for general movement? How is it in low light to hit focus? Thanks

I shoot a GFX 50Sii. It’s perfectly acceptable focus for typical use. For birds in flight or F1 racing? Forget it. For typical family photography, portraits… no problem. It’s not a continuous focus monster like Sony, but it’s really good for people who pose for a photo or there’s minimal movement.
