🌟The Full Nigel ™️ Ha ha, thanks Nigel! I remembered our conversation about working on the roots before you invest too much time into the tree.. so I couldn’t stop myself. 😀
Tough love, absolutely love it Jay. That so many parallels to life. "True fulfillment comes from sacrifice" comes to mind. That flowering beauty is amazing!! Hope you're having a great weekend!! Cheers Jason and Colleen 🌱💛🌱
Wow…way to bully around those Amurs! I love the aggressive approach. Sounds like Ray’s workshops are super valuable. Xin posted last year on how Ray cuts them off at the ground year after year to develop those awesome trunks. I would learn/hear/see more on this! And then you made my morning going after the roots like that! Daggum that was killer, brother! Sure do appreciate all your sharing, Jay!
Looks like a fun activity. It’s always exciting getting access to Ray’s expertise. Yours looks like it’s off to a great start. It’s nice to see everyone’s smiling faces without masks. Thanks, keep growing
🌟Thanks Matt. Masks are no longer mandatory in Ontario. Phew! Ray is an awesome resource.. I was too busy with my tree and learning to record more unfortunately..
Wonderful Show Jay and good to see everybody enjoying the club. Also, you are about six away from your first 1000 subscribers. That is something to cheer about for sure congratulations Jay, Keep doing great things!
Obviously a graduate of the Nigel Saunders school of pruning!!! Well done...Really need to start some Amur maple seedlings...Such beautiful trees and the ramification looks awesome...Great information...Your tree looks great...Thanks for sharing...
3 carnage cams in a video! Boldly went where no man has gone before! 😂 The root pruning is not for the faint-hearted, but the tree looks very nice in the end: lots of potential! Keep us posted on its development! 👍
🌟Thanks Stefano! If this tree survives, it should be great in a few years. Sometimes you have to be OK with a stick in a pot for now, to get the final bonsai beauty. 🤞
Really great video. Workshop looked really fun. learned something, “don’t have to worry about dieback on amur maple”. …. “I am just going to scrape the surface of the roots”. LOL. Good stuff Jay.
So much carnage! That's a really great looking Amur Maple. I have a bunch of these but non as good as yours. I fell in love with amurs when I first found one spring up in the yard 5iah years ago. I fou d the mother tree and grab hand fulls of seeds every fall now. If you ever want some, let me know!
🌟Ooh, thanks Mike! They are really popular here because they survive the cold with no problems. Send me an email and I’ll send you my address. I’d love to try growing some from seed as well. BlueJayBonsaiVlog@gmail.com
LOVE the start of this video. It really surprised me. Cool thinking! Such a creative mind you have! Appreciate the mention & show of my trees. Shall I, once the video of my azalea is done, I will let you know so you can link to my channel?
I'm really surprised to hear and see your comments about no dieback on amur maples since my research into them has many people saying they do experience dieback, sometiems very unpredictably and considerably. I even saw one post on bonsai nut saying to leave as much as 6 inches for potential dieback! I haven't done much to my young amur so I can't speak to this myself. How is it faring now?
🌟Hi Alvarim. I use this one: stonelantern.com/products/cut-paste-for-non-conifer-bonsai-trees I have used it on maples, boxwood, and a Chinese elm so far. I don’t always remember to use it. 😄
Darn, secoind! Anyway, that looked like a neat home run of pruning! Will it land in the carnage cam or in a pot as a cutting? The rest of the video will tell!
@@mattbrennan647 cheers! Still sorting out a few other plants and benches… and all the weeds in the background are going to go! I’ll definitely keep growing, thanks for your encouragement! 🙏
Wow, you went full Nigel on the roots!!! Great looking trees in the end!! Loved the subscriber pics!!

@@BlueJayBonsai So nice to see two talented bonsai artists swap stories here. Such a shame there is a lake between us. I feel some distance :)
The trunk on your maple looks great. Definitely relate to the 'i'll just have a look at the nebari....oops' repot session!
🌟Ha, ha. Thanks Darren! I’m happy I did it. It’s budding out now. 👍
Congratulation you are a RUclipsr right now, keep going and always sharing very good idea!!
🌟Thanks Cherie! 🐦💙
Wow what great video Jay! Thanks!!! Really enjoy it!

🌟Thanks Bald Yeti! The early jay bird gets the worm, or the roots that look like a worm. 🤣 Love chopping those roots! Hope it survives! 🤞

Nice root pruning baskets.
🌟Thanks Tom! Nice and cheap from the dollar store.
Really great video. Workshop looked really fun. learned something, “don’t have to worry about dieback on amur maple”. …. “I am just going to scrape the surface of the roots”. LOL. Good stuff Jay.
🌟Thanks Derrick! I asked Ray, Connor and Nigel and they all confirmed the no dieback on Amur maple. (That’s no Japanese maple 🤣).
Nice job, thank you for sharing, keep working and success always friends.
🌟Thank you my friend!
Looked like a fun meeting! Btw, I thought cut paste would help avoiding new growth but I've had a ficus growing right through it lol
🌟Ha, I think ficus are like weeds sometimes. 🤣 It worked on my Chinese elm.. so hopefully the same on a maple… time will tell!

From one Bonsai RUclipsr to another keep up the good work and I really like your styling of the maple. It has a lot of potential 👍
🌟Thanks Jeff! I subscribed the other day and watched a couple of your videos.. 👍
@@BlueJayBonsai Thanks I appreciate that👍
Good job Jay, build that trunk line!
🌟Thanks Xin! You sound just like Ray! 🤣
So many great stuff to be learned in these workshops.
Great work Jay! And congrats for hitting 1K subs!
🌟Thank you! Thanks for your support.. it was a lot of work to get to 1k! 🐦💙
I think you made some great decisions jay. I’m surprised at how shrubby those things get. Such great material to work with.
🌟Thanks Colin! It really was like a shrub! They grow like crazy. Expecting great results if it survives!
@@BlueJayBonsai I’m sure it will!

That looked like a fun class!
🌟Yes, it was worth the drive to Kitchener for that class! 👍
Some heavy pruning there mate. Great vid! Loved the yamadori pine in sub pics, really nice one.😀👍
🌟Thanks Magnus! Patricia has some really cool trees.. better than mine! 🤣
Amur Amur Amur. Remember that song?
Great video! Basket looks familiar... :D Nice work on the trees!
🌟Thanks Marysol! You like that basket eh?! 🤣😂
Great video! Homerun on the chalk tip.
🌟Thanks Christopher! 👍
Great video Jay, I am scare of hard pruning, but man the results are amazing 👍😍
🌟Thanks Gerardo! Like Nigel says, you’ve got to do it before you get attached to the tree, and you’ve invested too much time… 🤞
I know this one! It's the stick in the pot!!! Way cooler than mine ever tho ....
Nice rootwork! Love the triple carnage cam :D
🌟Thanks Aija! Yes, it’s the classic stick in a pot for at least 5 years. Only bonsai people understand. 😂
Nice repot Jay. Major root chops but it had to be done. 👍👍
🌟Thanks Guy! So much work.. but it was fun! I would have liked to chop some more.. but I held myself back to hopefully give the tree a chance! 🤞
‘Held myself back’ says Lumberjack Jay! I reckon he’s working on his Stand-up material at the same time as his bonsais!🤗
great bonsai👍👍👍
🌟Thank you!
Awesome video jay!! If anyone knows what that tree is I’d love to know!! It’s been difficult to figure it out

Still doing great. I do leave stubs for dieback on all my pruning now. But not for a complete pruning off of a branch. (but cutpaste is a must)
Good vid Jay, thanku. Time to let the Carnage Cam cool down now! God bless you 🙏✝️ ✌️🇺🇦🌻✌️
🌟Thanks Gaye! Cooling down until the next video.. 🤣
Hey Jay, what cutting paste did you use? Are you using it with all deciduous trees?
🌟Hi Alvarim. I use this one: stonelantern.com/products/cut-paste-for-non-conifer-bonsai-trees I have used it on maples, boxwood, and a Chinese elm so far. I don’t always remember to use it. 😄

🌟Silver medal for Stefano. 🥈Hard to beat Matt .. you have to knock out the champ.. you can’t let the judges decide. 🤣
Nice set up, Stefano!
@@baldyeti thank you very much! Planning to expand it soon!
Nice and aggressive. Should turn out great.
🌟Thanks Alan! Fingers crossed. 🤞
Carnage means cuttings
🌟Indeed it does. The battery died and I didn’t bother filming after, but indeed I planted those cuttings Tom!
Isn't it the worst moment for pruning?
It didn't do any harm - tree is still going strong.
FOIST 🥇
You’re really the fastest finger in town, Matt! 👍
🌟Hmm, Matt you are so good at this, you are giving yourself the gold medal 🥇I see! 🤣 I guess I don’t even need to comment anymore. 😂
