    Thank you so much for doing these videos. Its hard to find any other shaolin master on the internet showing how to use shaolin in a practical way. If they do the techniques are almost painfully bad to watch and unrealistic. You are the exception. Your fundamentals as well as your practical application are both clearly advanced. I wonder if you derived these applications yourself if if you learned them from someone, as you are the only person I have seen being able to show how to use entire "fist styles" in an applications. Shifu Kanishka Sharma also does some good application stuff but I think you are better because you focus on how to use the "full body, wide angle, kung fu esc movements" in a real fight while Shifu Kanishka Sharma only shows how to use the shaolin hand fighting boxing type of techniques, no offense to him though he is still great. It is unreal how you think of a fight as a kinetic battle where strikes also go along with foot work, distance, and angles to create power and leverage all while maintaining the original shaolin style and not sacrificing any of it. I am just amazed because most youtube kung fu masters only show some technique that does not take into account how a body works in a real fight or will through shaolin out of the window and just use basic boxing or MMA techniques and stances in how to fight for real.

    Couldn't the 2nd technique be a leg pull with your left foot followed by stepping low with your right foot to throw your enemy? Kind of like a fireman's carry? Does the form have a central goal? Like a theme? Like it might be devoted to teaching wrestling or throwing or clinch fighting?
    Tao Quan looks like punching in a clinch. The hand pulling back could be pulling an opponent's guard. The body twisting while punching would allow you to hit in tight spaces and the forearm of the punching arm could be protecting you from uppercuts. You could headbutt a little as well. Could the leg stepping back be a sweep as well? This form is amazing. I love it. Thanks for presenting it.

    Most people that practice martial arts haven't been in many real fights. But as a guy thats been in a bunch of street fights its cool to watch this and pick out which techniques i think would be very useful based on my experience.

    The fact is a new student could learn these moves right away on the first month, but would take years to uncode by the master personally. In the old days, it took at least 5 years to build strength, stamina, flexibility, and the purpose of a Kata to use it properly. However, if you use it in real life you could end up seriously injure or kill your opponents and went to jail, or fled the country altogether.

    a lot of this is super cool and i see a lot of good clinch and take down defense and some very good offense. it would be cool to see someone adapt some of this to the UFC or otherwise. I do Hung Gar and SPM and it is effective in sparring i would like to see some northern guys doing it too :D

    • @obsidianstatue
      @obsidianstatue 7 лет назад +1

      alot of those strikes would be considered illegal in UFC, back of the head, groin, kneeing someone on the ground, no strikes to the eyes or throat. also UFC are designed to make the fight last as long as possible. while real self defense technique is the opposite, so having the glove seriously diminish the effectiveness of traditional martial arts.

    • @taoisttiger4702
      @taoisttiger4702 7 лет назад +1

      that is a common argument but it really baseless in reality. MANY of the
      recent fights have ended very quickly for one example R.Rousey and her
      win streak decimating her opponents with chokes and arm bars etc some
      times in seconds and then her loss streak where she was put away quite
      effectively by good stand up techniques in the same amount of time.
      I think the real reason is most TCM like to shy away from combat and stick with their pretty forms and how "deadly" they are but are afraid to be humbled by a first year BJJ student. This then becomes their failure, for failure to "know thy enemy". BJJ becomes much less dangerous once a fighter is "inoculated" to the ground techniques. There is not much real reason TCM techniques cannot be adapted to the ring. BJJ adapts much of their street version, as does muay thai.
      While TCM makes excuses our arts are slowly dying, and that is something we should feel shamed at from our shifus of old.
