Rare Footage of KGB Agents Training in Top Secret Soviet Spy School (1991)

- On 2 October 1991, just months before the final collapse of the USSR, ITN was granted access to the Yuri Andropov Red Banner Institute, the KGB's espionage academy outside Moscow. Cameras captured the next generation of Soviet spies undergoing a range of training activities, from investigating mock crime scenes to firing weapons on a shooting range. ITN also filmed outside KGB headquarters, also known as the Lubyanka Building, in Moscow. The square on which the building sat had recently been renamed from Dzerzhinsky Square (after Cheka founder Felix Dzerzhinsky) to Lubyanka Square. ITN filmed the empty podium from which a statue of Dzerzhinksy had been removed, and at the nearby patch of waste ground in which it had been deposited.

(Read post scriptum before leave comments) They are signal troops cadets because they have black shoulder tabs with the K letter which means "cadet" (Курсант) and black collar tabs with lightnings, wings and red star which is the signal troops emblem. And also red lines on officers' shoulder straps which mean they are belong to the land forces of Soviet Army.
The KGB service had blue (or even indigo color) shoulder tabs and collar tabs, blue sleeve patch with red star and hammer and sickle in it, blue band (lower) of picked cap.
P.S. I wasn't right, the KGB men were undercover.
That would require people to be honest about the USSR and eastern bloc, lmao
as author said in a description, they are students of spy's academy, cadets or курсанты of KGB Higher School was named after Dzerzhinsky. read first, then blame someone.

So strange that in 1991 I was an American Marine, 21 years old and trained to possibly have to kill some of those young men of my age in this film. They look so young, as did I back then. We both had dreams of girls, cars, fun, family and the future. Thankfully the Soviet/American war never happened because people on both sides, love them or hate them, were smart enough to avoid taking that fateful step. I hope all of those boys, my former enemies, have had good lives as I have, filled with happiness, treasured memories, and more to come.

Why are the cadets in signalmen's uniforms? I served in the Government Signal Corps of the KGB of the USSR (85-87), they belonged to the KGB - but in fact they were military units, they wore black shoulder straps with the combined arms signalman emblem and the letters “SA”, in the video they are cadets, they have “K”. Just like the Border Guard - it was also part of the KGB of the USSR, but they wore green shoulder straps with the letters "PV" and green caps. The "spy" units of the KGB of the USSR rarely wore uniforms; they had cornflower blue shoulder straps with the letters "GB". Summary: this is some kind of army unit, although at that time subordinate to the KGB. Subsequently, this service began to be called FAPSI, then abolished.

@@Levazadov2You were expelled from the Komsomol and sent to a penalty brigade for simple hazing? Or do you mean Dedovshchina?
@@anaxis What other penalty? They were not in the KGB and army systems. Transferred from a combat unit involved in establishing government communications to a construction unit. Someone has to do the laying of cables and the construction of bunkers; I personally built residential buildings for officers. The reason is a conflict with a junior officer (I was a conscript sergeant), an everyday matter. Expulsion from the young communists of the party is revenge on the part of the officer. I was a student at the University and it was assumed that I could make a career after graduation if I joined the Communist Party. It was possible to join the party only in the Army, because upon completion of my studies I fell into the category of managers, and the Communist Party was a party of workers and peasants. There were quotas: the number of communist workers had to be greater than the number of engineers. So this opportunity was spoiled for me. The funny thing is: when my term of service ended and I returned to the University, perestroika began. And a few years later the Komsomol ceased to exist. I laughed so hard.
Wow you speak fantastic English. I thought you were bullshitting in your original reply the English was so good 😂. Then I saw you respond in Russian. And I bet you did laugh your ass off when they were disbanded and no longer relevant.
Why were statues in the USSR treated that badly in the last year of the Soviet Union?
For example?
That was a monument to Dzerzhinsky - the founder of ChK-NKVD-KGB. Bolsheviks’ secret police. It got thrown down and desecrated. And nobody wanted to clean it. Because under Lenin and especially Stalin it was essentially a terroirs organization which terrorized entire Soviet population. And the other monument was Satlin. I don’t think this needs commentary.
Because the masses made a regime change for "democracy" so they attacked the symbols of communism such as Derjinsky who was the founding father of the KGB. The masses are stupid when manipulated from abroad.

2:30 If this was entirely filmed in October 1991, why is a pre/post Soviet Russian flag flown outside the KGB? This flag wasn't a flag recognised in the USSR, they had a different "Russian Socialist Soviet Republic" flag that was a variation of the Soviet flag. This is the pre revolutionary flag that became the "new" Russian flag post USSR's collapse. It wasn't flown in any official capacity until 26 December, 1991 when the Soviet flag at the Kremlin was lowered and the current Russian flag was raised.
The tricolor flag was returned after the coup on August 22, 1991

Правильное замечание, но для иностранцев так повесили флаг
The column is completely covered in anti-communist graffiti and the flag is quite obviously not officially raised on that column. It's after the August 1991 coup, when by this point the central government had ceased to have any meaningful authority, and the tricolor by this point had already been raised by Yeltsin as the sign of the opposition against it.

The universe didn't glitch. That's the least likely scenario to explain the absence of a sonic boom. It is not a stretch to imagine it is related to the same physics which allow the craft and occupants to survive such extreme acceleration forces. In short, to ignore the fundamental limitations of physics as we are bound by them. General relativity describes gravity as the distortion - or curvature, if thought of in two dimensional space - of spacetime by massive objects. Energy and mass are, for the purposes of relativity, interchangeable.
Imagine a localized bubble of spacetime, decoupling the enclosed object from the "normal" flow of spacetime. This could essentially reduce its inertia, allowing for much faster acceleration and deceleration without experiencing the usual g-forces that would destroy conventional objects permitting changes in external velocity without internal strain. This may also explain in some way the absence of the sonic boom. The boom results from the displacement of air molecules, which "stack up" on the leading edge. The pressure waves, one molecule bumping into the next, propagate outward, resulting in a sonic boom. If the same bubble of spacetime acted as a discrete barrier between the medium (air) internal to the bubble, and the medium external to the bubble, the shockwave could be arrested before propagating to adjacent air molecules. The localization of spacetime seems the likeliest of sceneries, as it would also explain things like time dilation, and perhaps even access to physical dimensions inaccessible to us. The question of how this vast amount of energy could be produced, and then harnessed to distort spacetime, I couldn't tell you. I think we're a long, long way off from it. It would seem to me that materials science is the primary obstacle to our understanding of how it is practically accomplished. The theory, though, looks pretty solid.

Whats the point of shooting one handed?
It looks good on footage. There was a Myth Busters episode on this practice
I’ve seen some firearms instructors teach them to atleast try practicing that way just in case your other arm/hand is incapacitated. That way you are some what familiar with it and won’t be totally useless if you have to depend on that hand to shoot.
That was just the way they taught it back then. If you look at the American doctrine during WW2 they were teaching dudes this bladed stance most likely for two reasons: 1) back when the first types of pistols existed (think flintlocks), they didn't exactly have the ergonomics to support a two handed grip, also these guns weren't accurate, so generally aiming it in their direction seemed like the right move 2) At that point in emergency medical care, if you got shot you were pretty much going to die, so by taking a bladed stance there's a smaller chance of getting hit.
So anyways these two important things continue to shape the thought for almost two hundred years, and leading into the cold war you still have dudes shooting one handed. Nowadays we square ourselves up with a pistol because if we get shot we want the body armor to take the hit, among other things.
A translation would be nice.
