In relation to the discussion regarding Declan Rice and how he should be best deployed for the team, what is either misunderstood or simply overlooked is that he was being operated as both a defensive midfielder and a box to box midfielder, as opposed to a defensive and central midfielder which was implied by having been tagged as a number 6 or 8. Midfield play comprises quite a multitude of facets, and to this end a central midfielder typically has a different protocol to that of a box to box midfielder. Rice's fluid ball winning ability whether he's relatively static or in transit, as well as strong ball carrying and intelligent pass selection or option to shoot, is why I believe Arteta wants to develop him even further in that box to box role in order to try and give the team the closest thing we've seen to a Patrick Vieira, our best ever box to box midfielder.
So anyway as for everyone else who isn't trying to be a football scientist tryhard-ing to overcomplicate the game Rice is not an 8 he's stiff & not good in the final third, can't play an incisive pass to save his life. However he's an elite 6/DM and that's where he should play or we won't be winning anything of real note anytime soon. Cheers.

Rice is not a 6 in arteta system everytime he played as a 6 we struggled to progress to the ball from the back to the front because rice doesn’t make risky passes he likes playing it safe.
I think you could be onto something there mate, Arteta likes VERSATILITY in our team, most players at our club can play 2 positions on the pitch and a few of them can even play more than 2.
