Your video on the re-released AMT 1955 Chevy makes me want to get this kit again. I love your purple and white paint scheme. I will use the chrome plated Centerline wheels that came with the AMT 1959 Chevrolet El Camino. Your videos of cars, trucks, military vehicles, boats and aircraft remind me of the modeling fun I had as a youngster in the 1950s and 1960s. Thanks for taking us back in your time machine!

Two-tone looks sweet.... perfect street rod ✌😎
Nice work on the build !
Love the tri-5's... my cousin had a 57' with a tilt fiberglass nose decked out with a full flame paint job, 4 speed, 12 bolt w/ 4:56's and one wicked built 283, dual quad tunnel ram set-up, he went with a Hilborn Injection unit later and the car ran 12's @ 110 not bad the car was still pretty heavy even with the glass nose !
As a young teenager it was a blast roaming the streets in that wild ride.... a real head tuner everywhere we went !
My favorite story: My cousin did engine screaming launch and he went from 1st to 2nd the bolts snapped the were holding down my front seat 😲 I ended up flying around in the back bouncing off the roll cage 😃😂😁
I never forgot that and the Mr. Gasket V-gate inline shifter he was using.... about 6 years later I bought on for my 66' SS
( I should've paid more attention to the " for off road use only " line on the box ! It turned out to be a awesome shifter for the strip but a real pain in city driving well till it was broken in that is 😉

I’m really loving your videos and inspired to build some cars. Being a novice in this area of modelling is live to see how you put the kit together just before your final reveal. It seems to me this is where some of the big headaches may occur. Thanks for all the work you do I’m hooked on the channel now!

Filming that kind of stuff can be pretty difficult without a second set of hands or upper camera mounts and it's just me running a camera, so that's why I mention any issues with final fit to the chassis etc and show it as needed.

I love watching you build because you talk. A friend in 1988 had an 81 Camaro, brown, V8, and had the Cragar SST wheels, which appear the inspiration for the Centerline wheels you mentioned. I really liked the black and purple interior, contrasted by the white and purple exterior! The backseat armrests even had ashtrays molded in...attention to detail

When stores were closed on sundays. Most people had weekends off some of my friends older brothers drove cars like that 55 chevy as an every day driver to school those were the days. I have really enjoyed your model kit review videos and appreciate your modeling tips. I discovered a neat way to black with chrome grills and make lug nut detail on chrome wheels pop. I use Testors graphite metallic enamel paint. It is so translucent that it does not hide delicate detail. I use it to darken panel lines. It is very good for the ribs on valve covers. It is self leveling. I apply it with a paint brush and remove any excess with a cotton swab dipped in paint thinner. Recently I discovered Tamiya panel line accent color. It comes in black and brown. I now prefer it for doing vehicle panel lines. The Testors graphite metallic is still my first choice for accenting chrome wheels, valve covers and many chrome engine parts or dashboard details. Keep up the excellent modeling reviews and inspiring models young and old!

Super nice and very clean job! I ordered a set of rims because i didn't like the fact of 2 being on the chrome tree and none to match. The one and only thing i would have done was used the Molotow on the trim work. Overall, in my opinion that build is a 9+ out of 10! You knocked it out of the ballpark!

Very very nicely done, and loved the two tone paint scheme. If someday you decide to foil the trim, I think it will improve the model a lot, compared to silver paint, or even Molotow chrome. I know there is no definitive way of doing things in model building, but foil is one of those things that really add realism to a model car. Lot's of modelers hate dealing with the stuff, I'm one of the crazy few who actually like foiling, and look forward to this part of the build.
Also agree 100% on your comment on foosed up cars. That guy has the Midas Touch backwards, all he touches turn into crap. A lot of people are into his stuff, what proves beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

The detail on your seats is bold where as the detail lines on the seats in my kit are soft. I was on the fence about buying this but I guess that I won't since the chrome is moulded in. Thanks. I am getting into the hobby and their are so many options for model paint. I even bought an airbrush, dont like it to much. It's hard to use to me.

      Hello,
I list or show the paints used during the final of each build as I use all different kinds of brands.
On this one I used Rustoleum spray can purple. Right from the can. It works well for me.
I do use an airbrush but only when I need to custom mix a color or get really fine lines that I can't mask, such as pre-shading tanks and other weathered vehicles. Airbrushes come in very handy weathering things because you can apply tiny amounts of paint and gloss, etc. to one small spot/area.
For the vast majority of my reviews I use spray can paint, right from the can. To date I haven't taken paint from the spray can to use in the airbrush (decanting).
The only real secret is not to put on such a thick coat. I shoot the color coat one time. I get the coverage I need and then I walk away and let it set overnight. Then I cover it with a clear coat from the same brand of paint to avoid any potential issues and let that sit until it dries. I don't buff, sand, wax, etc. The gloss you see is the gloss that comes from the can and the clear coat.

I got my 55 Kit today, and I'm planning on replicating the 55 Chevy 150 from American Graffiti, using chrome steel wheels and a roll bar from an older 63 Ford Galaxie kit.

I'm pretty new to your channel that's why I'm commenting on late videos. You knocked it out the park on this one. I'm building this one as we speak, 55 bel air was always my favorite car because my father had one when I was little. I thought they called it a "55" because that's how fast it was and when you're 6/7 years old that's fast 😂 anyways I'm a big fan of the AMT models because they always seem to be of great quality. This one disappointed me because of the exhaust pipe being molded into the bottom chassis and if you use the pipes that come out behind the front wheels its 1 of them details when you turn it over it sticks out like a soar thumb. Always great videos on your channel. My favorite go to channel for model building and for great hints. I'm thinking of starting my own RUclips channel building models , not to be big and famous lol just to add some fun to my life long hobby that I was big into when I was young. I huge on building models starting at the age of 7 or so but then when I hit 16 and found real cars and girls lol I somehow let it slid away until recently when I stumbled onto 1 of your videos and right away I was hooked and needed to start building again. When I was little I remember paying @5 to10 bucks a model so you could imagine how I was when I seen the prices if them today. They're worth it though. I'm a truck driver so I dont get much time working on them and with being a father of the best 9yr old daughter on the planet it kinda limits my time with them. As I started looking into them again though my daughter seems to have an interested in doing them with me so that made me happy as can be. But as the girl she wants the newer sport cars and wants to paint it hot pink and add the girls touch which I think is gonna add to my love of the hobby, think it'll be fun to have her ideas and mine sorta mesh together on a couple builds and I think it'll add a little something into the model building videos that you dont see on RUclips. Anyways enough of mt babbling and sorry for chewing your ear off . Love the channel and I've learn some new tips from you so thank you.

Hello! Just got the joker getaway car kit for Christmas... no experience whatsoever on model kits. I tried to paint it and failed miserably. I will have to buy a new shell if I want to finish the project so I started looking for paint brush kits and tutorials/videos on model kits and ran across your channel... been binging on your videos, I love all the detail & effort that goes in every single one of your models. You are an awesome hobbyist! Any pointers for a beginner like what type of glue and acrylic paint to get? I really don't want to give up on this hobby. Thank you in advance.

I like Tamiya Thin Cement and Plastruct Bondene Cement.
For paints, craft store acrylics work just fine.
Watch my video on painting with spray cans that came out last week.

I haven't used Rustoleum clear over their color paints in some time now. I started to get adverse reactions too.
Not sure what changed that so many have issues now, but I use Pledge Revive It Gloss as my clear over all colors for years now and it works very well and doesn't harm a thing.

I've never built this 55 Chevy. I have an old Hot Rod series Revell 55 Chevy sedan custom from 1985 I am working on. It has a lot of detail. Has some flash, but can be easily cleaned off. Think it's a re-pop of an early 70's version. It's the one with opening doors, and trunk.

    • @hpiguy

Sharpie brand dries super fast, usually under a few minutes for me because I handle the bodies a ton and it doesn't come off.
