In this episode, we work on building the front entry for our shipping container home. Having these steps leading into our house will help make our lives so much easier!

totally agree here......I've unsubscribed from a few channels too because music volume is so loud and the song selection of head banging, acid rock is terrible!

When it’s all said and done, can you total your invoices? I think it would extremely valuable and can show a do it yourself person what they could do with a similar budget.

I thought I heard he did this sort of work in the past to make a living.........maybe it was a different youtuber I'm thinking of. Some people are mechanically inclined and learn to do many things with their hands. I'm one of them and started doing this sort of work at age 14 for family and a contractor uncle, and continued to work in the trades where I have been able to do quality work in many trades. He does a good job, but they have sure made their work harder by using shipping containers which have not added any direct benefit to the build. They could have done a great job with less work if they built the same place and left out the containers. It seems he isn't as experienced as I am and possibly also didn't know how much he was capable of or understand the drawbacks to using containers (I haven't heard what convinced them to go that route).

For your neck I was taught years ago at the pain clinic in Seattle to take a can of cold pop wrap it in a dish towel then you lay on the floor and put your legs up on a chair and put the towel rapped pop can at the base of your neck for no more that 15 minutes..set a timer. When you go to get up, raise your legs a bit up off the chair roll over on your side and push up with your arms and get up slowly. Bingo it most always works. They told me it was similar to mini traction on my neck. I have done this many times and it never failed me. Just a suggestion only. Personally I would rather have a pain in my but...than a kink in my neck LOLOL. Brilliant idea on that piece of steel in that corner of the container.
Fun fact:
A deck should have a slight decline from the structure outward. It keeps the water from pooling or flowing toward the home.

That's the strongest looking landing I've seen on front steps. No worries about it being anything but rock-steady. Great video :)

Just a question for you guys. With all the extra stick frame stuff you had to do, what was the advantage of starting with the shipping containers? In my eye, it actually added cost and time to the build, so I’m curious if there was a specific reason. Love watching the build. Good luck!
I have the same exact question. As a building pro and welder/fabricator, it doesn't make any sense. Maybe they underestimated their ability and the difficulty of using containers. While Spencer doesn't look like and advanced pro, he has done a good job and I can't really criticize the quality of their work. It seems more like a stick framed house, with all kinds of extra work to deal with the many drawbacks of the containers. The only benefit is they can say they built a container home, but it doesn't appear they had any inspections or loans where that might even help. It is hard to watch this build because I can't get past this handicap they made for themselves.

I think you guys should build a big deck that spans the whole front of both containers so that way you can take advantage of the container doors swinging open and have a awesome outdoor enteraining space! But still great progress on everything!
