What's that, about a fifteen game suspension these days? Oops, sorry, didn't notice Jordan entered his personal safe space without consent after the play, better make it 20
This was NBA, when players expect to give and receive hard fouls and understand that it was part of the game. No easy baskets, you will earn your 2 points.
Something nobody noticed is the photographer who pushes MJ away to help Starks. Damn, those rivalries were FOR REAL, MJ could be the greatest but noboby in all NY city cared
At least when it came to officiating, this was a better time. It's a hard foul, but there was no overreaction. Starks got angry, but kept a level head, and took his FT's. Refs didn't have to spend 3 minutes overanalyzing the play, no suspensions... I hate this aspect of the modern game.
And Jordan could have argued it WASN'T a flagrant foul, but he didn't. On the replay, it looked like he was actually going for the ball and the speed and momentum of the fall made it look more violent than it really was. But Jordan accepted it and moved on. Agree that this modern game has gotten out of hand.
@@sumatran, guys these days are actually flopping, to get that flagrant called. And that includes the millennials' GOAT. Its a crying shame if you ask me.
@@sumatran when MJ was whistled for the foul, he knew what was coming and the ref is gonna call a flagrant on him. He was attempted to go for the block but he end up hitting Starks. Like Xavier mcdaniel said when asked about the hard fouls & physical play during the 92 ecsf when ny took the bulls to 7 " this is a mans game " it's now the soft ball game.

MJ was attempting to go for the block but he took Starks out instead. The reason the flagrant was called coz the momentum in which MJ was moving caused the excessive contact which shoved Starks into the crowd. MJ wasn’t reacting coz he knew when he was whistled for the foul, the ref is gonna call a flagrant on him so he sportingly help Starks to his feet before walking away.

gotta love how none of the Knicks came to help him up!! and how neither Starks nor MJ over-reacted… and there was no such BS as foul-review. what the refs SAW, they CALLED and that was that…
If you think this is bad, you should listen to the boston Celtics games being announced by TOMMY HEINSON. His celtic bias is so flagrant, I can't even say he's using a celtic alibi. He is just flatout a celtic homer. And his favorite celtic, LARRY BIRD could and did do NO wrong. EVER. It was just plain terrible listening to that guy. It should have been illegal for heinson to call celtic games.
Yeah, there's obviously no malice on this play. The Bulls and Knicks played each other in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1996, so there was a lot of familiarity and bad blood. The teams would get chippy with one another, but even the Knicks knew this was just being physical, and hence no retaliation or even harsh words exchanged.
Although if you look at his EVIL expression afterwards, it clearly says he wanted to "kill" Starks and not in a 'clean' way so...his foul from the back was intentional and because of the danger of that collision is...a FLAGRANT foul any day! ;)

New York and it’s fans are hypocrites of their own doctrine! Other than Detroit the 80’s and 90’s knicks teams beat Michael up and at times almost seriously injuring him! Charles Oakley was his best friend from the early bulls days and hit Jordan harder than anyone in the league! IN JORDAN’S OWN WORDS! Jordan was noble enough to help Starks up, but then you cry “foul” when he is running full steam ahead to rebound off a crucial turnover chased Starks and made a legitimate effort at the ball! Stop it! Starks has hit players harder than that including Jordan!
+jp3813 I had to say that because everyone puts Jordan on a pedestal, like he can't do no wrong. But had Starks did that to Jordan though...Oh folks would be crying. Lmao
Brian K. Turner Actually, many longtime fans are used to seeing MJ getting beat up by the Knicks and the Pistons whenever he goes for the drive. It's when he hard fouls someone, which he rarely does, that haters immediately take the opportunity to call out even though he already gets penalized for a flagrant foul when he clearly went for a block.
That was a good clean foul. Man, i sure miss those days of good NBA basketball instead of this sissy league they have now. In todays league, Jordan would average 60 points a game.
Bulls Knicks games from the 90s are my favourite games all time.
